Description
(No Model.) G. LARSSON.
DESK TOOL TABLE.
No. 477,762. Patented June 28,1892.
UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAF LARSSON, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESK TOOL-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,762, dated June 28, 1892.
Application filed March 8, 1892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAF LARSSON, a citizen of Sweden, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Desk Tool-Tables, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in desk tool-tables, and it is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the invention, showing the tool-holding shelf or drawer partially drawn out. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section on the line X X in Fig. 1, showing the tool-holding table arranged in position on top of a slanting schooldesk; and Fig. 3 represents a bottom plan view of the invention.
Similar letters refer to similar parts Wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.
In the education of children and youths where manual training or the use of tools is introduced it is very desirable that a proper desk or piece of furniture should be provided with a horizontal top, so as to prevent the tools used or the work made from rolling or sliding off, and for this purpose my invention is constructed and carried out as follows: b
A in Fig. 2 represents an ordinary schooldesk having an inclined top A. In connection with such inclined top I use my improved detachable manual training or toolholding device, which is constructed as follows:
B is the detachable work-table, having on its under side the inclined ribs B B, the incline of which corresponds with the incline of the table-top A, so that the surface of the detachable table B will be horizontal when the Work-table B is placed on top of the deskclined ribs 13 B are I made longitudinal grooves 12 b, in which is guided the sliding shelf or drawer C, having recesses or recep- Serial No. 424,249. (No model.)
tacles for the tools D D, as fully shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
WVhen it is desired to use the improved detachable work-table B in connection with a slanting school-desk table-top A, all that is necessary to do is to place such work-table B on top of the inclined table-top A, with the inclined ribs B 13 resting on top of the said school-desk A, as shown in Fig. 2, by which the work-table B is caused to be held in a horizontal position for the purpose stated. The corner-pieces I) 6 Z) b, which fit around the corner of the desktop A, serve for the purpose of preventing the Work-table B from getting detached from the top of the schooldesk during the use of said Work-table B.
The sliding shelf or drawer C may be provided with any desired number of grooves or recesses for receiving the tools D D, as fully shown in Fig. 1.
This device is very practical and useful in schools where ordinary as well as manual training is being given, as it enables the ordinary slanting desks to be quickly converted to horizontal work-tables for manual-training purposes, and after the manual training is at an end the work-table B can be easily removed from the school-desk and put away until again required for use.
The invention, although especially designated for school purposes in which manual training is being taught, is equally useful for other purposes where a slanting desk is to be converted into a horizontal work-table.
Having thus fully described the nature, construction, and operation of my invention, I wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim-- The herein-described desk tool-table, consisting of a Work-table B, having inclined ribs 15 B on its under side, adapted to reston an inclined desk, and having angle-pieces Z) I) b 1), adapted to hold it in place on thelatter, and having a sliding tool-holding shelf or drawer O, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this 15th day of January, A. D. 1892.
GUSTAF LARSSON.
