Abstract

An improved covering for a bed or crib, and which consists either a sheet or blanket having a pocket formed at one end so to fit snuggly around a foot portion of a mattress, the other end of the covering having elastic straps so to wrap around the head portion of the mattress, thus resulting in the covering remaining in place even if the sleeper tosses about at night.

A principle object of the present invention is to provide a bed covering that will remain in place in case a sleeper rolls around a great deal during the night.
Another object is to provide a bed cover which comprises either a blanket or sheet.
Still another object is to provide a blanket or sheet which is designed particularly for use by infants and small children sleeping in a crib. but which is equally adaptable for use by adults sleeping in a bed.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
To the accomplishment of the above and related objects, this invention may be embodied in the form illustrated in the accompanying drawings. attention being called to the fact, however, that the drawings are illustrative only, and that changes may be made in the spe cific construction illustrated and described within the scope of the appended claims.
FIG. 1 is a bottom perspective view of the invention. shown in the folded shape that it assumes when fitted around a mattress.
FIG. 2 is a bottom plan view of a material from which the invention is made.
FIG. 3 is a bottom view showing the invention being slipped around a mattress.
FIG. 4 is a side cross section on line 4-4 of FIG. 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail. the reference numeral represents a blanket or sheet according to the present invention wherein the same is made from a rectangular shaped material. as shown in FIG. 2.
An elastic tape 11 is stitched along one end edge I2; the tape being shorted in length than the end edge so that it does not extend into the opposite corners of the end edge. Near the opposite end edge 13 of the material there are stitched two parallel, spaced apart. elastic taps I4 and 15 which are each longer than the width of the material so that each tape has a freely hanging tape portion 16 at each end that extends beyond the side edge 17 of the material.
After the elastic tapes are thus attached to the material, each side edge 17 is then folded over about two separate. parallel spaced apart, fold lines I8 and I9,
and the end edge 12 is then folded over about two separate. parallel. spaced apart fold lines 20 and 21 so that the material is in the shape as shown in FIG. 1.
Thus a peripheral panel 22 is formed along each side edge I7 and a peripheral panel 23 is formed along the end edge 12. These panels are then secured together by stitching 24 adjacent each end of the elastic tape 11. so that a pocket 25 is thus formed at one end and into which one end of a mattress 26 can be fitted as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. After the mattress end is thus inserted into the pocket. the free ends [I6 of the tapes I4 and 15 are passed around the underside of the mattress and frame, and the ends 16 on one side are teed to the ends 16 on the other side so to form knotted bows 27, as shown in FIG. 4.
Thus the cover is snuggly fitted on the mattress and is prevented from being pulled away by a tossing sleeper.
While certain novel features of this invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claims. it will be understood that various omissions, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention:
What is claimed is:
I. In a blanket or sheet covering for a crib or bed. the combination of a rectangular flexible fabric material having a first elastic tape stitched along a central portion of one end edge of said material. and a pair of second and third elastic tapes stitched completely across and in spaced away relation along and opposite end edge of said material. opposite side edges of said material being each folded over two parallel. spaced apart fold lines. and the first said end edge is likewise folded over two parallel spaced apart fold lines. so to form a peripheral panel on each said side edge and the first said end edge which are stitched together at their corners, thus forming a pocket on one end of said material. and into which one end of a mattress can be titted. the said pair of elastic tapes at the other end of said material each including a freely extending end portion adaptable to extend around a bottom of said mattress. and said free end portions on one side being adaptable to be tied to said free portions on the other side.
