Abstract

The multi-pocket container has a row of pockets each side of a central line on which the two rows of pockets are folded so as to be in face to face relation to each other. When opened, the top of the front pockets are near the bottom, that of the intermediate pockets are near the center and that of the rear pockets are near the top of the container. The container is made from a sheet of durable paper material, such as cover or tag material, and has foldable wing portions at each side, the bottom wing portions fold inwardly and upwardly over the inwardly folded top wing portions. The side wing portions form the intermediate and rear pocket while the bottom wing portions form the front pockets. The side wing portions are folded inwardly and the bottom and intermediate wing portions are folded upwardly thereupon. Flaps are cut from the upper wing portions to which the intermediate wing portions are secured by an adhesive material to be hingedly supported independently of the rear hingedly supported pockets.

Garbe v Attorney, Agent, or Firm-Harness, Dickey & Pierce [57] ABSTRACT The multi-pocket container has a row of pockets each side of a central line on which the two rows of pockets are folded so as to be in face to face relation to each other.
4 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures /i I /A M I l MULTI-POCKET CONTAINER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Reference may be had to Norman J. Humphrey, US. Pat. No. 3,620,440 which shows a container which is folded to have a front and rear cover with pockets for papers to be carried.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention pertains to the use of a sheet of cover or tag paper material which is durable and which has top and bottom side wing portions. The top wing portions fold inwardly onto a substantially square central section to form the rear pockets. The bottom wing portions support the bottom fold side wing portions which fold thereover and fold upwardly over the top side wing portions to form intermediate and front pockets forwardly of the rear pockets. Each rear pocket has a flap cut therefrom which is hingedly secured to the side edges of the central section to which the bottom side wing portions are secured by an adhesive material. The container is folded at the center to move the pockets into facing relationship when the container is in closed position. When open, each side of the container will have a lower outer pocket, an intermediate central pocket and a rear pocket for papers which are to be carried. These'may be a series of coupons which are to be taken to stores for redemption or for reducing the cost of purchased articles or the like. Printing may be applied on the exposed faces of the container to advertise a product or business.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a view of an open multi-pocket container embodying features of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of the structure illustrated in FIG. 1, taken on the line 2--2 thereof;
FIG. 3 is a broken sectional view of the structure il lustrated in FIG. 1, taken on the line 3- 3 thereof;
FIG. 4 is an enlarged sectional view of the structure illustrated in FIG. 1, taken on the line 44, and.
FIG. 5 is an unfolded sheet of material from which the multi-pocket container of FIGS. 1 to 4 is produced.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The container 11 illustrated in FIG. I is a lefthand compartment 12 and a righthand compartment 13 with a fold line 14 therebetween. Each of the compartments has a back pocket 15, intermediate pockets l6 and front pockets l7. Coupons and other paper slips may be inserted and carried in any of the pockets to be available at a store for redemption or for obtaining an advantageous price for a product. The container is usually carried with the compartments l2 and I3 folded to have the pockets in facing relation.
Referring to FIG. 5, a cutout blank 18 has a fole line 19 at each side disposed parallel to the fold line 14 at the center. The fold line 19 defines a central substantially square central section 21 and side wing top and bottom portions 22 and 24. The top portions 22 form the back pockets 23 and the bottom portions 24 form the intermediate pockets 16 of the container. The bottom central wing portions 25 have a central cutout portion 26 to form the front spaced pockets 17. A flap 27 is cut out of each of the top wing portions 22 which retain a hinged relation along the fold lines 19 with the central section 21. After the blank is formed in this manner from a durable paper material, such as cover or tag material, the top side wing portions 22 are folded onto the central section 21 along the fold lines 19. The bottom side wing portions 24 are folded onto the bottom central wing portions 25 which are then folded upwardly along the fold line 30 onto the top wing portions 22. The bottom side wing portions 24 move into en gagement with the flaps 27 which have been provided with an adhesive material 28 for retaining the bottom side wing portions 24 against the rear pockets 23. It will be noted in this arrangement that both wing portions 22 and 24 are hingedly supported by the central section 21 along the fold line 19 independently of each other. This permits a freer movement of the wing portions 24 inward and away from the pockets 23. With this arrangement, there are no double folds at the bottom along the fold line 30 or along the fold line 14 eliminating any bulkiness to the container. The center fold line is preferably provided sothat the two compartments 12 and 13 can be folded upon each other with the pockets on the inside in face to face relationship. As pointed out hereinabove, advertising matter can be applied to the outer face of the container for advertising a product, business and the like.
I claim:
1. In a multi-pocket container made from a durable paperlike material, a sheet of material having a substantially square back section, top wing portions hinged to each side of the back section, bottom central wing portions hinged at the bottom of the back section, bottom wing portions hinged at the side edges of the bottom central portions, the top wing portion being folded onto the central square section, the bottom wing portions being folded onto the bottom central wing portions which are folded onto the folded top wing portions with the hinge line between the bottom central wing portions and the back section forming the bottoms of the three pockets provided thereby at each side of the back section, flaps cut from the top wing portions and hinged to the side edges of the square section, and means securing the bottom wing portions to said flaps so that the top and bottom wing portions are independently supported in hinged relation to the side edges of the square section.
2. In a multi-pocket container as recited in claim 1, wherein an adhesive secures the bottom wing portions to said flaps.
3. In a multi-pocket container as recited in claim 1, wherein the top wing portions form the rear pockets with the adjacent edges spaced apart, the bottom wing portions form the intermediate pockets with the adjacent edges spaced apart, the bottom central wing portions having spaced apart adjacent edges form spaced front pockets at each side of the square back section.
4. In a multi-pocket container as recited in claim 3, wherein the square back section has a central fold line parallel to the hinged edge of the top and bottom wing portions, the pockets of the section being moved into face to face relation when the back section is folded on said central fold line.

Claims (4)
