Abstract

A golf set in which a plurality of golf club heads are removably mounted inside a carrying case and a handle for any one of the golf club heads is removably mounted on the outside of the carrying case. Golf balls are also received in the carrying case and can be dispensed from it as needed. The entire set is a compact unit which may be carried around a golf course conveniently, and has less bulk and weight than conventional golf sets.

GOLF SET BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Although it has been proposed to provide a plurality of golf club heads which may be selectively connected to a single golf club handle, to the best of applicants knowledge, no effective golf club set complete with carrying means has been proposed.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a carrying case for carrying a plurality of golf club heads, the carrying case having a chamber in which golf balls are stacked. An upper aperture and a lower aperture communicate from the outside of the case with the inside of the chamber, and golf balls can be inserted through the upper aperture and removed from the lower aperture. Means is provided for opening and closing the apertures to allow insertion and dispensing of golf balls.

Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved golf set utilizing a plurality of golf club heads selectively connectable to a single handle.

Another object of the invention is to provide a carrying case for a plurality of golf club heads plus a single handle connectable to any one of the heads.

A further object of the inventionis to provide a carrying case with means for convenient dispensing of golf balls.

A further object of the invention is to provide a golf set in which a plurality of golf club heads are carried on the inside of a carrying case and a golf club handle is carried on the outside of a carrying case.

Among, the other objectsof the invention are to provide a golf club set complete with heads, handle, and carrying case which is lighter and less bulky than conventional golf sets utilizing a bag, which can be conveniently carried on a golf course by theuser, and which is simple and economical to manufacture.

Other objects of this inventionwill appear from the following description and appended, claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification wherein like reference characters designate corresponding-parts in the several views.

Before explaining the present invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, since the invention is capable of otherembodiments and of being practiced or carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology or terminology employed herein is for the purpose of description and not of limitation.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION The golf set 10 includes a carrying case 12 having a front side 14 and a rear side 16 connected together by a hinge 18 so that the carrying case can be opened in the manner shown in FIG. 2. A plurality of different golf club heads 20 are mounted inside the carrying case. Each of the heads 20 has a shank 22 with a reduced tip portion 24. Inside the case there are two platforms 26 and 28 in a stairstep configuration, and each of these platforms has a series of apertures in which the shanks 24 are received to mount the heads 20. The heads may be further retained by collars 30 through which the shanks 22 may be respectively inserted.

At one end of the inside of the carrying case, there is a partition 32 which forms a chamber 34 for receiving golf balls. The golf balls 36 are stacked vertically inside the chamber 34.

An upper aperture 38 and a lower aperture 40 communicate through the outside wall of the carrying case to the chamber 34. Golf balls may be inserted through the upper aperture 38, stacked in the chamber 34, and removed from the lower aperture 40. There is a lower slanting ramp 42 on which the golf balls may roll out through the aperture 40.

An upper cover means 44 and a lower cover means 46 are provided at the apertures 38 and 40 respectively. Each of these cover means is swingably connected to the outside of the case so that each cover can be pivoted backand forth to open and close the respec tive aperture.

The carrying case 12 has a handle 48" at the'top thereof so that the case can be conveniently carried" around a golf course. A single golf handle 50' is removably mounted on the outside of the case 12, for example, by retaining'the handle 50 in hooks 52. The hooks 52-may be'conveniently attached to the'exterior of the back side 16 of the case.

Also mounted on theback side of the case'is at least one; and preferably several, collars 30 similar to'the" collars 30'on the'inside of the case. The collars 30" have apertures in them through'which'the shank 22'of a golf club head'20'may be insert'ed'for carrying the' head 20 on the exterior of the golfcase; In this manner,

A tee mount '54 is also attached to theoutside of the case, the mount having'apertures in which tees ss'may be carried.

Retractable-legs 58are pivotally mounted on'the outside of the'case. The legs are shown in a horizontal'pm sition, but they maybe pivoted to a vertical'position and stuck into the groundwhen the *user puts the *c'ase down. This provides'a solid footing for the'case' when it is put down.

Referring to FIGS. 4 and'S, there-is "shoivfla means? 60'for detachably connecting togethera head 20*and the handle 50. The handle 50 is tubular'at its low'ernd, and has a recess 62 therein for receiving the reduced "A tip portion 24 of the shank 22 of head 20."The lower end of the handle 50 hasan enlarged "flange" 645A sleeve 66 is retained by the flange 6% and is rotatable on the lower end of the handle 50. The shank 22 has external threads 68 and the sleeve 66 has internal threads 70 so that the sleeve may be screwed onto the threads 68 for tightly connecting the head to the handle 50. All of the heads 20 in the golf set have the same type of connecting means 60.

Thus, the invention provides a convenient golf set which eliminates all but one of the handles of a conventional golf set. Thus, the weight and bulk of the set is reduced considerably. A carrying case for carrying the heads and handle is provided, and the case also has means for convenient dispensing of golf balls.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. In a golf set having a carrying case with a hingedly mounted front side, the improvement which comprises:

a lower horizontal platform inside said case immediately behind said hinged front side, and an upper horizontal platform inside said case behind and above said lower platform, each of said platforms having a plurality of downwardly-extending openings therein;

a plurality of different golf club heads mounted on said platforms and extending upward therefrom inside the case, each of said club heads having a reduced shank portion snugly received in a respective opening in the platform on which that club head is mounted, and the club heads on the upper platform extending behind and above the club heads on the lower platform;

a golf club handle having means at its lower end for releasable attachment to said reduced shank portion of each golf club head individually;

and means on the case releasably holding said golf club handle.

2. A golf set according to claim 1, wherein said lastmentioned means comprises hooks on the back side of the case at the outside.

3. A golf set according to claim 1, and further comprising means providing a vertical chamber inside said case at one end of said platforms for holding a stack of golf balls, said case having an end wall with upper and lower openings at the upper and lower ends of said chamber, respectively, and covers for said openings mounted on said end wall for individual adjustment between a position covering the respective opening and a position uncovering said opening.

4. A golf set according to claim 1, and further comprising:

a plurality of lower retaining collars disposed inside the case above said lower platform and in front of and below said upper platform in vertical alignment with the respective openings in the lower platform, said lower collars slidably receiving the club heads mounted on said lower platform;

and a plurality of upper retaining collars attached to the back side of the case on the inside above said upper platform and in vertical alignment with the respective openings in the upper platform, said upper collars slidably receiving the club heads mounted on said upper platform.

A golf set according to claim 4, and further comprising means providing a vertical chamber inside said case at one end of said platforms for holding a stack of golf balls, said case having an end wall with upper and lower openings at the upper and lower ends of said chamber, respectively, and covers for said openings mounted on said end wall for individual adjustment between a position covering the respective opening and a position uncovering said opening.

6. A golf set according to claim 5, wherein said means on the case releasably holding the golf club handle comprises hooks on the back side of the case at the outside.

7. A golf set according to claim 6, and further comprising collars on the back side of the case at the outside for holding tees and additional golf club heads.

Claims (7)

1. In a golf set having a carrying case with a hingedly mounted front side, the improvement which comprises: a lower horizontal platform inside said case immediately behind said hinged front side, and an upper horizontal platform inside said case behind and above said lower platform, each of said platforms having a plurality of downwardly-extending openings therein; a plurality of different golf club heads mounted on said platforms and extending upward therefrom inside the case, each of said club heads having a reduced shank portion snugly received in a respective opening in the platform on which that club head is mounted, and the club heads on the upper platform extending behind and above the club heads on the lower platform; a golf club handle having means at its lower end for releasable attachment to said reduced shank portion of each golf club head individually; and means on the case releasably holding said golf club handle.

2. A golf set according to claim 1, wherein said last-mentioned means comprises hooks on the back side of the case at the outside.

3. A golf set according to claim 1, and further comprising means providing a vertical chamber inside said case at one end of said platforms for holding a stack of golf balls, said case having an end wall with upper and lower openings at the upper and lower ends of said chamber, respectively, and covers for said openings mounted on said end wall for individual adjustment between a position covering the respective opening and a position uncovering said opening.

A golf set according to claim 1, and further comprising: a plurality of lower retaining collars disposed inside the case above said lower platform and in front of and below said upper platform in vertical alignment with the respective openings in the lower platform, said lower collars slidably receiving the club heads mounted on said lower platform; and a plurality of upper retaining collars attached to the back side of the case on the inside above said upper platform and in vertical alignment with the respective openings in the upper platform, said upper collars slidably receiving the club heads mounted on said upper platform.

5. A golf set according to claim 4, and further comprising means providing a vertical chamber inside said case at one end of said platforms for holding a stack of golf balls, said case having an end wall with upper and lower openings at the upper and lower ends of said chamber, respectively, and covers for said openings mounted on said end wall for individual adjustment between a position covering the respective opening and a position uncovering said opening.

6. A golf set according to claim 5, wherein said means on the case releasably holding the golf club handle comprises hooks on the back side of the case at the outside.

7. A golf set according to claim 6, and further comprising collars on the back side of the case at the outside for holding tees and additional golf club heads.
