9 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures LIGIIT BASE FOR A DENTAL CHAIR This is a continuation of'application Ser. No. 869,089 filed Oct. 24, 1969 now abandoned.
DESCRIPTION This invention relates to a light base for a dental chair, and more particularly to a light base adapted to be held in place by and adjustable around a dental chair.
Anobject of the invention is to provide a light base for a dental chair.
Another object of the invention is to provide a light base adapted to be held in place by and adjustable around a dental chair.
A further object of the invention is to provide a light base having an annular base plate adapted to be positioned under a movable dental chair base and clamped against the floor by the weight of the chair and also movable with the chair over the floor and rotatably adjustable relative to the chair.
The invention provides a light base having base plate means adapted to be positioned under and held in place by a dental chair. The light base also includes an upright assembly'mounted on a portion of the base plate means extending outwardly from the chair.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a light base for a dental chair forming one embodiment of the invention; and
FIG. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, there is shown therein a light base forming one embodiment of the invention and adapted to be used with a dental chair 12, which is of the movable or portable type which can be slid over the floor when desired and normally stays in place by frictional engagement with the floor. The base 10 includes a planar base plate 14 having an annular portion 16 and a generally triangular, radially projecting, mounting portion 18. A generally triangular mounting plate 20 is secured by screws 21 to the portion 18, and a bolt 22 (FIG. 2) secures an upright assembly 24 to the mounting plate. The annular portion is slightly smaller than a base 26 of the chair 12 and is positioned under the base 26 and is concentric with the base 26, which rests on the portion 16 to hold the lamp base in a fixed position on the floor. However, the lamp base may be rotated, by deliberate action only, on the floor relative to the chair base to adjust the position of the upright assembly.
The upright assembly 24 includes an electrical outlet box 30, sockets 32, a plug cord 34 and sulated conductors 35 extending into a tubular socket 36 to which is rigidly secured a rigid tubular post 38. The housing of the box 30 is rigidly secured to the socket 36. A standard dental light 40 is mounted on a flanged adapter 42 which projects into the top of the post and through which the conductors 35 extend. The light 40 has a tubular projection 51 which fits closely and slidably in the adapter 42 with the bottom end of housing 53 resting on the flange of the adapter. A plug of the cord of the light plugs into a socket at the end of the conductors 35 to supply power to the light. The conductors are sufficiently long for the socket to be pulled out the upper end of the post 38 for plugging and unplugging the light.
The above-described light base is especially designed for use with dental chairs which are movable and are used with mobile units, or where installation of a ceiling or wall mounted light is not practical. The light base forms a rugged support while being very compact. The light base also is easily adjusted rotatively relative to the chair base while normally being held securely in place without the necessity of screws or bolts to fasten the light base to the floor.
