because they are cumbersome, require considerable work to install, and they have to be disassembled or destroyed in case the covered risers or pipe lines have to be repaired or alterations have to be made. These conditions and disadvantages pose a problem, for which this invention presents a solution.
SUMMARY The invention consists in such novel features, construction arrangements, combination of parts and improvements as may be shown and described in connection with the device herein disclosed by way of examples only and as illustrative of preferred embodiments. The invention essentially comprises longitudinal sections, elements or members substantially U-shaped or curved insection, and preferably made of sheet metal, but which may be cast from any other material suitable for covering the riser or pipe line as well as providing an embellishment therefor. Pairs of spring clips are attached to the inside of the flanges of the elements or members so that they can be easily attached to the risers, the clips being adjustably fastened thereto so that they can be applied to risers, pipes or round posts of various diameters.
Objects and advantages of the invention will be set cation and illustrates merely by way of example, certain embodiments of the device of the invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING In the following description and in the claims, parts will be identified by specific names for convenience, but such names are intended to be as generic in their application to similar parts as the art will permit. Like forth in part hereafter and in part will be obvious herefrom or may be learned by practicing the invention, the same being realized and attained by means of the instrumentalities and combinations pointed out in the appended claims.
It is an object of the present invention to provide coverings or casings, or risers, pipe lines or the like cylindrically shaped building elements, which are aesthetic as well as being utilitarian in purpose.
Another object of the invention is to provide coverings for risers, which are constructedso as to be easily attached to the risers without special tools and to be easily removed in case the risers require repair or alteration.
A further object of the invention is to provide coverings for risers, which have attachment clips which can be adapted to accommodate risers of variou diameters.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide coverings for risers, which can be used for both insulation and mechanical protection of the risers.
Various further and more specific purposes, features and advantages will clearly appear from the detailed description given below taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specifireference characters denote like parts in the several figures of the drawing, in which FIG. 1 illustrates a covering or casing for risers or the like building elements, according to an embodiment of the invention viewed from the open, rear side thereof;
FIG. 2 is an end view of the covering shown in FIG.
FIG. 3 is a side view of the lower end portion, partly broken off, of the covering shown in FIGQI;
FIG. 4 is a side view of the upper end portion, partly broken off, of the covering shown in FIG. 1;
FIG. 5 is an enlarged view of a spring clip and the "parts by which it is fastened on the wall of the covering; and
FIG. 6 illustrates on a reduced scale a modification in which the covering is curved in cross-section.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now in more detail to the drawing illustrating preferred embodiments by which the invention may be realized, there is shown in FIG. 1 a channel-shaped covering or casing 10 for risers or the like building elements of a substantially cylindrical shape, such as support posts for ceilings, and forother pipe lines on or adbe formed or cast of any other material suitable-for covering the riser or pipe line as well as providing an embellishment therefor. Corners of the formed side flanges or walls 10a, of the elements or sections 10 may be cutoff, as shown at 13 in FIG. 4, for being fitted over a molding on a ceiling. Other adaptations to variousother conditions may be made as easily as that shown in the example. Spring clips 15, 16 are fastened on the inside of the flanges or walls 10a, 100 of covering 10 opposite one another, respectively, in cooperative relationship. Clips 15, 16 are shaped in such manner that they can be snapped onto the riser 14 where they will be held in place by the action of the spring force. In order to accommodate the fitting of clips 15, 16 to risers of various diameters, they areheld in engaged position against riser 14 by spaces 19 and carriage bolts 17 and screw nuts 18. Spacers I9 of suitable length are selected to maintain spacing clips 15, 16 the desired distance apart from one'another to accommodate various diameters of risers. Horizontal slots 20 are provided in the side flanges 10a, 100 of covering sections 10 for carriage bolts 17 for adapting the location of clips 15, 16 in relation to the distance of risers, from the wall of the building, as the case may be. Washers 17aare conventionally used.
The outside surface of covering may be adequately embellished or decorated, or the material from which the sections 10 are formed, may be perforated in any suitable pattern. It is obvious that covers 10 may also serve as heat insulating means for steam pipes or the like insulating purposes. FIG. 6 shows a variation in shape of covering. The covering 10 may be curved in cross-section.
While the invention has been described and illustrated with respect to certain preferred examples which give satisfactory results, it will be understood by those skilled in the art after the principle of the invention,
that various changes and modifications may be. made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
