1 REMOVABLE covEn FOR'SPRAY GUN This invention relates to a removable covering for useon In order to prevent such leaking paint from splashing on to the operator, I have provided a removable cap covering the upper part of the gun.
With the above in view, an object of the present invention is to provide a protective, removable cover for a pressure gun' for paint, lacquer and the like.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a covering for the top of a spray gun to protect the user from being covered with any escaping or leaking paint.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cover or guard to prevent any leaking paint from the container top to splash the surface of the automobile being sprayed with the paint, thereby avoiding streaking of the surface of the car.
Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective partly broken away view of a model pressure spray gun with a covering or hood attachable to the top of the same,
FIG. 2 is a cut away, vertical, partly sectional view of the device shown in FIG. 1 with the hood attached thereto, and
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of the device shown in FIG. 1.
Referring now to the drawings in which like numerals refer to like parts throughout, a spray gun shown with a partly cutaway container 11 is provided for holding paint or any similar coating material therein. It will be noted that the top of said container 11 is provided with a threaded neck portion 12 to which is removably connected an internally threaded cap 13 provided with an integral central neck 14 to which is attached a nozzle 15 controlled and operated by a handle 16 and trigger mechanism 17. It will be noted that said handle is connected with air pressure hose 18 for supplying compressed air into container 11 through tube 19. Said tube 19 extends toward the bottom of said container. 1
, Also, said cap or cover 13 has an opening 20 for allowing entry of air into the container as the paint is being forced out of the same through nonle 15.
During the use of the spray gun and while air is entering the container there is little likelihood of any paint escaping from opening 20. However, in many instances when the gun is moved about before using the same there is a tendency for the paint to leak out of said opening thereby soiling the hands of the operator.
In order to prevent contact of the escaping paint with the hand or hands of the operator, I provide a removable hood or cap 21, which is adapted to fit over neck 14 and cap 13. It is to be noted that'said cap 21 is substantially pear shaped and hollow as shown. Also it has a cut away portion 22 of suflicient width as to permit its easy attachment to and removal from the cap 13 and neck 14 as desired. Also said hood 2] has a depression 23 on either side of cutaway 22 as shown to permit proper and firm adjustment of the hood. As shown said hood is hollow, open at the top and the bottom thereof to pennit easy application over said cap 13 and neck 14. Furthermore, because of the space of the cutaway portion 22, the hood can be easily expanded or contracted.
In addition said hood is made of any suitable flexible but paint resistant resilient material, such as fiberboard, thin sheet metal, plastic material such as nylon, or lucite to cover the openrngo20. Said hood is so curved at its lower portion, that the b0 m 24 thereof 18 secured to the bottom of cap 13 as shown in FIG. 2. Also, it being paint resistant the hood can be readily cleaned.
I claim:
1. A hood attachment for a paint spray gun of the type including a generally cylindrical container having a reduced diameter externally threaded neck, a threaded'cap engaged on the neck and having an upstanding central neck integrally fonned thereon comprising a relatively flexible substantially pear shaped removable covering adapted to cover the upper portion of said paint spray gun by extending from the upper end portion of said central neck to the lower edge portion of said threaded cap, said covering slotted from top to bottom with the slot having a width sufiicient to permit attachment of said covering to said gun, said covering having a reduced diameter lower end portion for engaging under the lower edge of said threaded cap for assisting in retaining said covering in position on said spray gun, said covering being paint resistant.

Claims (1)

1. A hood attachment for a paint spray gun of the type including a generally cylindrical container having a reduced diameter externally threaded neck, a threaded cap engaged on the neck and having an upstanding central neck integrally formed thereon comprising a relatively flexible substantially pear shaped removable covering adapted to cover the upper portion of said paint spray gun by extending from the upper end portion of said central neck to the lower edge portion of said threaded cap, said covering slotted from top to bottom with the slot having a width sufficient to permit attachment of said covering to said gun, said covering having a reduced diameter lower end portion for engaging under the lower edge of said threaded cap for assisting in retaining said covering in position on said spray gun, said covering being paint resistant.
