B42d 3/18 U.S. Cl. 281-31 9 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This specification discloses a card holder and record book which is made from a single sheet of flat stock such as paper in which as few as two die cuts are made ,in the stock and with three simple folds, a pocket is formed for the receipt of a card such as a credit card and there are several pages for the marking of purchases made with the credit card.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention pertains to personal card holders and records and in particular to a device for holding a standard credit card or business or professional card and pages to keep information regarding the use of the cards. The prior art discloses various devices, for holding cards and some devices for holding cards in combination with a note pad. None of the prior art discloses a device in which the note pad itself is an integral part of the card holder, being made of the same material.
SUMMARY The gist of the invention is the discovery that by simply cutting and folding a single sheet of material such as paper, a dual purpose device could be made. which could both serve to carry a card such as a credit card or a personal card as well as to form pages for the keeping of records concerning the use of the card.
Objects of the device are: to provide an inexpensive light weight, device for carrying cards and providing a writing surface; to provide a device which may also serve as a statement by credit card companies to credit card users; to provide a form for use by credit extending businesses to use in marking purchases; to provide a vehicle for advertising messages and to provide a convenience to the credit card users.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the device constructed in accordance with the present invention showing a card in phantom line inserted in the pocket of the device.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The present invention consists briefly of a sheet blank '1 having a first fold line 2 dividing the sheet into substantially equal first and second portions 3 and 4; a plurality ice of secondary fold lines 6 and 7 substantially at right angles to the first fold line dividing the first portion of the sheet into substantially equal area panels, and the sheet being severed along lines 8 and 9 which are extensions of the secondary fold lines on the first portion.
The sheet stock may be of any material which is light weight, easily cut and will take a permanent fold and will receive printing and can be marked by ordinary pen and pencil. Most all types of paper will serve as well as some plastics and coated plastics.
Portion 4 which forms the record portion of the device is lined and printed prior to folding in such a manner that the pages may be used to record the items purchased using a credit card 5 which is carried in a pocket formed by the folded panels. Where a card is used for items which may be categorized, it is of great convenience to have several pages upon which to segregate the purchases. For this purpose, the panels in the second portion are formed With tab ends 11 and 12 opposite the first fold line and the tab ends are disposed on varying portions of each of the ends to provide easy indexing of the pages.
Still another feature of the device is a thumb hold for the card. This is provided by removing portions of the first sheet portion at the ends opposite the first fold line along lines 13, 14 and 15. The spaces formed must of course register when the panels are folded one upon another.
A further feature is the provision of a window opening along line 17 in the pocket portion of the device so that the card may be identified without completely withdrawing it from its pocket. A related but novel feature is the printing of an advertising message on the panel behind the window so that when the card is removed, there is a flashing of the message to the viewer.
Where it is desirable to have extrapages an insert such as is shown in FIG. 4 is provided. One or more pages 18 and 19 having index tabs 21 and 22 may be provided. The extra pages may be affixed to the card portion along fold line 23 as by glueing or with a staple (not shown).
A feature of the device which increases the usefulness of the device is the printing of lines 42 on the pages and common headings on the rear panel which may be seen in conjunction with all of the pages. This feature is accomplished structurally by removing elongated portions along lines 24,25, 26, and 27 adjacent to and parallel to the severed lines in the panels of the second portion except the panel forming the last page.
As may be readily seen, the device shown in FIGS. 1 through 5 stores a card in a pocket with a short side inserted in the pocket. The modified form of the device shown in FIGS. 6 through 8 stores the card with a long side in the pocket. The modified form is made in much the same way with a fold line 2', dividing a first portion 3' and a second portion 4 and secondary fold lines 6' and '7. A thumb hold is formed by cut out portions 13, 14'
and 15 and which also provides a window opening to view the card 5. The blank is cut along line 9 to form pages and may also have cuts along lines 24', 25', 26 and 27 to provide a shortened page so that printing along the top of a back page may be used as a common heading for all pages. In the modified form, the panels are longer in the direction parallel to the first fold line.
To construct the card holder and record book of the present invention, a fiat piece of stock is cut with the outline shown in FIG. 2 or 7. Any desired printing is preferably made on the sheet before the stock is die cut. A cut is made along lines 8 and 9 and crease or fold lines are made along lines 6, 7 and 2. Panels 311 and 32 are then folded onto panels 33 and 34, and then panels 3-5 and 36 are folded over on top of both previously named panels.
As a final step, panels 32, 34 and 36 are then folded unit over against panels 31, 33 and 35.
To construct the card holder of the modified form, a blank sheet is cut in the outline as shown in FIG. 7. Cuts are made along lines 8' and 9. Fold lines are made along lines 6', 7 and 2'. Panels 31 and 32 are folded over on top of panels 33' and 34, then panels 35' and 36' are folded on top of the previously named panels. As a final step, panels 32, 34' and 26 are folded over on top of the other panels.
Many uses of the device may be made and only a few by way of example will be mentioned. Primarily, the device is used to hold a credit card and to keep track of purchases. Where the business extending credit is required to enter the purchase in the recording pages, the device becomes an effective and efficient means for determining the outstanding credit so as to avoid extending credit beyond the limit set for the card holder. The device may also be used to carry monthly billing information to the card holder. Since the device is designed to be carried on the person, it is an effective way to require the card holder to carry his statement with him so that businesses extending credit can determine whether the holder is current in his payments. In effect the device becomes a bank pass book.
In some applications it may be desirable to form the card pocket more securely by glueing a portion of panel 35 to panel 31 along a strip 41 as shown in FIG. 1.
I claim:
1. A card holder and record book including:
(a) a sheet blank having a first fold line dividing said sheet into substantially equal first and second portions;
(b) a plurality of secondary fold lines substantially at right angles to said first fold line dividing said first portion of said sheet into substantially equal area panels;
(c) said sheet being severed along lines in said second portion which are extentions of said secondary fold lines on said first portion;
(d) said panels in said first portion are folded one upon another;
(e) said panels in said second portion are folded one upon another forming a plurality of pages hinged along said first fold line; and
(f) said panels in said second portion being folded upon said panels of said first portion along said first fold line forming at least one pocket adapted for the receipt of a card.

2. A card holder and record book as described in claim 1 wherein said panels in said second portion are lined and printed for the recording of purchased items and the amounts charged.
3. A card holder and record book as described in claim 1 wherein said panels in said first portion have portions removed at their ends opposite to said first fold line, said spaces formed by the removed portions registering when said panels are folded one upon another to form an easy access thumb hold on a card in the pocket formed by said panels.
4. A card holder and record book as described in claim 1 wherein the panel forming the uppermost cover for the card to be held is formed with an opening for} viewing printing on the card to be carried and printing carried "by the panel adjacent said last named panel.
5. A card holder andrecord book as described in claim 1 wherein said panels in said second portion are formed with tab ends opposite said first fold line, said tab ends being disposed on varying portions of each of said ends to provide easy indexing of said pages.
6. A card holder and record book as described in claim 1 including page inserts having the size of said panels in said second portion and being affixed to said record book along said first fold line.
7.
