Description

Nov. 28, 1967 A. RUDO 3,354,884
COSMETIC FACE MASK Filed Feb. 16, 1965 INVENTOR firm Rm ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,354,884 COSMETIC FACE MASK Ann Rudo, 50 E. 72nd St., New York, N.Y. 10021 Filed Feb. 16, 1965, Ser. No. 433,012 6 Claims. (Cl. 128260) The present invention relates to a cosmetic face mask, and more particularly, the present invention is concerned with a face mask having portions which will exert a slight pressure against predetermined portions of the face of a wearer of the mask.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a face mask which, when properly worn, will exert a slight pressure against the portion of the face directly beneath the eyes of the wearer.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a face mask which, when properly worn, will supply liquid to the portion of the face of the wearer located directly underneath the eyes.
It is yet another object of the present invention, to provide a face mask which, when properly worn, will be helpful in reducing puffiness of the portion of the face directly underneath the eyes of the wearer by exerting a slight pressure against this portion of the face and by simultaneously providing contact of this portion of the face with a lubricating liquid. 7
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a further reading of the description and of the appended claims.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention contemplates, a cosmetic face mask which comprises, in combination, a mask member adapted to cover at least the upper portion of the face of a wearer and formed with eye openings, the mask member having an inner face directed towards the wearer; and a pair of elongated projecting members carried by the inner face of the mask member adjacent to and beneath the eye openings to engage the face of the wearer beneath the eyes.
The novel features which are considered as characteristic for the invention are set forth in particular in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its construction and its method of operation, together with additional objects and advantages thereof, will be best understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of the inner face of the cosmetic face mask according to the present invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken along line 2*2 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 33 of FIG. 1.
Referring now to the drawing, it will be seen that the face mask of the present invention comprises a mask member 1 which is adapted to cover at least the upper portion of the face of a wearer and which, in the illustrated embodiment, for purely decorative purposes also includes a veil portion 2.
Mask member 1 is formed with eye openings 3 and carries at its inner face a pair of projecting members 4 which are located adjacent to and beneath the eye openings 3.
Projecting members 4 are formed as absorbent pads which comprise a liquid permeable fabric cover 5 and a core portion 6 of absorbent material such as cotton wool. The pads are removably attached to the inner face of the mask member by attaching means such as snap fasteners 7.
For attaching the cosmetic face mask to the head of the wearer the same includes a band 8 which may be tied around the head of the wearer.
Absorbent pads 4 may be impregnated with a suitable liquid such as a mixture of equal proportion of coconut oil and peanut oil to which perfume has been added.
Preferably, the mask member will have a peripheral portion 8 which is of greater thickness than the core portion 9 so that a peripheral rim of somewhat greater thickness and strength is formed which facilitates proper placing and holding of the mask on the face of the wearer. As illustrated, the mask member may be formed of a two-ply fabric 10 and 10' and a soft material 11, such as cotton wool interposed therebetween.
When it is desired to use the cosmetic face mask of the present invention for under eye care, in order to reduce or eliminate a certain pufiiness which may have formed in the portion of the face directly underneath the eyes, it is preferred to apply to the puffy portion underneath the eyes an oily substance, for instance, the above described mixture of perfume, coconut and peanuf oil and also to saturate the absorbent pads 4 with such oil mixture.
The thus saturated pads 4 are then adhered to the inner face of mask member 1, for instance by means of snap fasteners 7 and the mask is put on by the wearer and tightened by tying bands 8 behind the head of the wearer so that absorbent pads 4 exert a slight pressure on the puffy areas underneath the eyes of the wearer. Preferably, the mask is then Worn in this manner for a prolonged period of time, such as several hours or overnight.
In this manner, a slight pressure is exerted against the puffy areas while simultaneously the same are contacted with the oily liquid, which liquid, of course, may also be of a composition different from that described hereinabove.
Upon removal of the mask after the same has been worn for several hours, it will be possible to observe the beneficial effect achieved by exerting this light pressure against the face portion directly beneath the eyes while simultaneously having this eye portion contacted by a liquid such as the oil mixture described above.
It will be understood that each of the elements described above, or two or more together, may also find a useful application in other types of masks differing from the types described above.
While the invention has been illustrated and described as embodied in a cosmetic face mask, it is not intended to be limited to the details shown, since various modifications and structural changes may be made without departing in any way from the spirit of the present invention.
With-out further analysis, the foregoing will so fully reveal the gist of the present invention that others can, by applying current knowledge readily adapt it for various applications without omitting features that, from the standpoint of prior art, fairly constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specific aspects of this invention and, therefore, such adaptation should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalence of the following claims.
