Description
E. 'COMITZ Nov. 5, 1963 GOLF CAP WITH MEANS FOR INDICATING RAISING OF HEAD Filed March 7, 1962 fl may W ATTORNEYS.
United States Patent ENDMIATXNG This invention relates to a golf cap, and has as its primary object the provision of an attachment for golf caps which will enable a golfer to improve his game of golf by keeping his head down as he addresses the ball.
A funther object of the invention is the provision of a freely suspended, relatively light weight pendulum which is attached to the visor of a golf cap, and which, when the golfer raises his head while addressing the ball or putting, will swing toward his face and strike the same, indicating to him the error in his swing.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which will induce the golfer to keep his head down during putting or similar strokes, since each time he raises his head the movable member will lightly impact against his face, thus indicating to him the fact he has raised his head during the putt.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be readily attached to or detached from the visor of a golf cap, and which will by its arrangement, tend to improve the individual game of the golfer.
Still other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds and shown in the accompanying drawing wherein there is disclosed one form of device embodying the instant inventive concept.
In the drawings:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of a golfer wearing the cap and attachment of the instant invention.
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged view of the head of a golfer showing the cap thereon and the device of the instant invention in a position to strike the golfer in the face when he lifts his head.
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken through the visor of the golf cap transversely thereof and showing the device of the instant invention attached thereto.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
In the drawing there is generally indicated at G a golfer Whose head is indicated at H, whose face is indicated at In FIGURE 1 the golfer is shown addressing the ball with a club C, and wearing the cap 1 of the instant invention which is provided with the usual sun visor 11. In the position of FIGURE 1, the golfer has his head down, and in consequence the device of the instant invention, to be more fully described hereinafter, is suspended in front of, but not in contact with, his face.
The device of the instant invention is best shown in hiiihh i Patented Nov, 5, "963 FIGURE 2, wherein the visor 11 of the cap is provided adjacent the central portion of its brim with an opening 12 in which is positioned the grommet 13. A hook 1d of conventional type is adapted to be'engaged through the grommet 13, and is provided at one end with an eye 15, in which is secured one end lid of a light nylon line 17, or light chain or similar article. The other end 18 of the line 17 is engaged by an eye 1-9 which is carried by a relatively light weight 20 such as a fishing sinker or the like.
The line or chain 17 may be made of any desired length, and is preferably positioned centrally of the visor of the cap. in FEG. 2, the cap is shown as slightly twisted, so that the cord or line 17 may hang in front of one eye of the golfer, but this may be readily adjusted to position the same centrally, or over the other eye of the golfer or in any position where it will be most convenient in causing him to keep his head lower during that portion of the address of the ball, and the stroke, whether driving or putting.
Obviously, the weight 2%; may be of any desired size, although its primary function is merely to attract the attention of the golfer to the :fact that he raised his head, and in consequence a relatively light weight is preferably employed.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved device which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
A golfers cap including a brim having a centrally disposed aperture having a grommet therein adjacent the edge thereof, a flexible cord of a length to extend slightly below the eye level of the wearer, a snap hook on one end of said cord secured in said grommet, and a relatively light weight fishing line sinker secured to the depending free end of the line, and adapted to extend in front of and below the eye of the golfer in spaced relation thereto causing the golfer to keep his head lowered during that portion of the address of the ball and the stroke.
