ALBERT ROTOH PERKINS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALE TO WELD 85 FAY, OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 306,279, dated October 7, 1884.
I Application filed January 4, 18M. (No model.)
T @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT Rorci-r Pen KINs, of East Boston, in the county ofSuftolk, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Overshirts; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specifica-tion and represented in the accompanying drawings, of whieh- Figure l is a front view, Fig. 2 a rear view, and Figs. 3 and 4t vertical sections. of a shirt provided with my invention, the nature of which is dened in the claims hereinafter p resented.
The shirt shown in the said drawings is of the kind used by wheelmen, and generally worn outside of another or inner shirt.
In carrying out my invention I have within the overshirt A a pair of Suspenders, B, each 2o of the main or shoulder straps a a of which is extended through one of two loops, Z) b, arranged within the shirt at its shoulders. The buttoning-straps of the Suspenders go through openings in the front and back of the shirt,
2 5 (such openings being at c c and d ch) and project outwardly from the shirt a suiiicient distance for them to'button on the trousers of the wearer. lith my improvement the suspenders can be unbuttoned from the trousers with- 3o out the necessity of first raising the shirt or removing it wholly or partially from the wearer, such being to allow of the trousers being dropped or let down as occasion or convenience may require. By means ofthe loops the 3 5 Suspenders are held up in the shirt in order for the arms of a person to be passed through them into those ofthe shirt. Each buttoningstrap, just above its button-hole e, is sewed or fastened to the body ofthe shirt, the sewingI being shown at f. Furthermore, the object ot' 4o myinvention is to save the necessity of wearing the Suspenders on the outside of the shirt,
or a belt to support the trousers, when no suspenders are used forsuch support, a belt, when
so worn, being injuriois in asanitary point of View, as is well known.
l am aware that a shirt has been devised which is provided with Suspenders secured within the yoke of the shirt, and thus madea part of the shirt structure. In my device the Suspenders are loosely held in theloops b on the inside ot the shoulders of the shirt. The suspenders thus have full play and. can be easily removed from the shirt. The openings or slits c d are below the waist-line ofthe shirt, and the latter puckers and falls over the suspenderends and buttons, concealing them.
Vhat I claim is- 1. Ashirt provided with loops b on the inside at the shoulders, and slits c d at front and back, in combination with Suspenders B, resting looselyin such loops and passing through such slits, as set forth.
2. A shirt having slits c cl at front and back, below the waist-line, in Combination with a pair of Suspenders supported within the shirt, the ends of the Suspenders extending through the slits, as set forth.
