(Cl. 24U- 59) This invention relates to portable lights and more specifically to electrical lights, to mark the position of a person.

While similar lamp structures of this general character were developed originally for use by miners, they have gone into rather general use in other lines.

In lamps of the commercial form power is supplied by dry cells or storage batteries which usually are slung from the wearers belt or are carried on some other part of the person. The lights used are typical search lights and `iedly attached to the source or detachable and connectable by means of separate extensions, sometimes with special attachments to be supported by special sockets, with a clamp on a belt or on the cap, or might be held in the mouth as disclosed in the U. S. Patent 2,299,467.

The demand for small portable lights is well known for use of miners, hunters and others, but all devices used at the present time provide search lights with more or less narrow beams, which are primarily `designed for work, or manipulation of tools or weapons. Under certain conditions it is important to mark the position of a person clearly and to provide a safety light in these cases, wherein a pure reector as already known for the same purpose is not suitable. Reflectors for the same reason are useful only on highways, if a strong light beam of the approaching vehicle can be applied to obtain -an effective reflection. In many other cases as du-ring hunting in dense forests, in adits or in propecting in caves no other light sources are on hand for reflections, therefore self contained portable lights have been in use up to now, which must be carried, not leaving both hands free for other manipulations.

One object of this invention is the provision of a portable light assemblage including a container in which the bulb itself may be housed and which might be mounted in a position suitable for use, with .a connection extending from the lamp to electrical energizing means ar ranged in a separate container.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a unit of the character mentioned in which the cover of the container is provided with a clear plastic portion, or any suitable material, the lower portion of this container being adapted to be attached to a cap, a helmet, or pinned to la shoulder piece.

A further object of this invention is the provision of -a portable light of such a type that the light is visible in any direction.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a portable light unit including detachable means for the connection between source and light.

Other obvious features and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following description ac companied by the drawings in which corresponding parts are designated by similar numerals of reference.

A base S contains a male plug 12 and a safety pin 2. In convex reflector Il, is provided a socket 16 with connections to the mentioned plug 12 (not shown) in the drawings. Inserted in this socket 16 and held in conducting connection is an electric bulb 17, which is sur rounded and protected against breakage by means of a transparent cover 3. A threaded part 18 of this cover 3, is engaged in a corresponding thread 15, of the base 5. A separate connector with a female plug 8, conductors 6 and ya screw-in member 9, leads through a disk 13, of insulating material. The purpose of this disk 13, is to secure the screw-in member 9, in the corresponding base of a container 7 for dry cells lil and lila. This disk 13, is held in its correct position by means of a threaded cover 14.

In use and application of this invention the light is pinned to the cap or on the shoulder of the person by means of the safety pin 2. To relieve the connector 6, from any tension, `and to avoid tipping of the light the clamp 1, has to be set in a suitable position, as soon as the plugs 8, and l2 have been connected. The container 7, with the batteries might be carried in a pocket, so that the 'switch 1l is easily operable.

According to the individual conditions for the use of the described safety light, the color of the transparent cover 3 might be selected. ln most cases a yellow or Iamber cover will be the most suitable one, but any other color can be used if preferred by certain reasons.

From the above disclosure it will be seen that the safety light as described is a useful and efficient means to indicate the position of a person under dangerous conditions. Although certain speciiic embodiments of the Iinvention have been shown for purposes of illustration, it is evident, that the light with the connector and the battery may be mounted in any suitable manner and that various changes and modifications in size, proportion and supplying electric energy may be made in the above specilically described structure without departing from the spirit of the invention, the changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.

I claim:

A portable light comprising a circular base having external screw threads around its upper end, the bottom of said lbase being recessed, a fastener mounted in the recess of said base for attaching the base to the clothing of a person, a convex reflector mounted on the top of said base having a lamp socket in the top thereof, a lamp bulb mounted in the lsocket of said reflector, a dome-shaped transparent cover mounted on said base in covering relation to `said lamp bulb and reflector having interior screw threads at its lower end for engaging the screw threads of said base, and lan electrical plug mounted in the side of said base having connection with the socket of said re- Hector.
