Description

(No Model.) I
'TOOTH GROWN.
- No. 277,940. I Patented May 22,1883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OASSIUS M.. RICHMOND, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE RICHMOND TOOTH GROWN COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
TOOTH-CROWN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,940, dated May 22, 1883.
Application filed December 1. 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CASSIUS M. RICHMOND, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tooth-Crowns, of which the following is a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Tooth-crowns have heretofore been prepared 7 by inserting in the porcelain a double-headed pin, generally of small diameter, and attached only to the tooth by its increase of size at its head.
My improvement consists in the peculiar.
fastening devices constructed as fully set forth hereinafter and claimed, and placed on the top and back of porcelain teeth, thereby enabling such porcelain teeth to be firmly held in position on their supports.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a front viewfand Fig. 2 a back view,,of a tooth-crown so prepared; Fig. 3, a view of the fastenings arranged to be soldered, and Fig. 4 a section through Fig. 2 on the line 00 w.
My artificial toothcrown' is prepared as follows: Metal ribbons or strips are bent into the form shown in Fig. 4. Two of these, ."A and B, are then placed in situation in the paste before baking. These strips should not be bent close together throughout their entire length, but should have aloop at their doubled end, as is shown in Fig. 4:. been built up around these bands or holders, the porcelain tooth is to be bakedin the usual way, and when removed will present the appearance shown in Figs. 1 and 2. When desired for use the strips may be bentdown, as shown in Fig. 3, in which condition they are readily fastened by the investing solder when the tooth-crown is to be placed in situation, the upper pin in this case serving to'prevent the down ward motion of the tooth-crown, which is very liable to occur in case of only one holding device.
Whatl claim as my invention, and desire t secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of an artificial porcelain tooth with two holding devices consisting of flat strips of metal bent double to form loops at the inner ends, one of said holding devices projecting at the-top and the other at the back of said artificial crown, substantially as described.
C. M. RICHMOND.
