Description

(No Model I. W. HARLOW.
STOVE.
N0. 273,730. Patented Mar. 13,1883.
UNITE STATES ATENT F F ICE.
IVORY W. HARLOIV, OF PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE PLYMOUTH FOUNDRY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,730, dated March 13, 1883.
Application filed May 19, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVORY W. HARLOW, of Plymouth, in thecounty ofPlymouth and State ofMassachusetts, acitizen ofthe United States,
have invented a certain new and useful .lmprovement in Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in explainm iug its nature, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove embracing my invention; and Fig. 2 is vertical section thereof, further illustrating the construction.
This invention relates to that class of cooking-stoves having what is known as the cabmet-base, and it consists in providing; the cabinet-base with a hot-closet drawer, which is adapted to be moved out and in horizontally in relation thereto.
Heretolore the portion of the cabinet-base under the central portion of the stove, so far as I am aware, has not been employed for any useful purpose, and by my invention I utilize this space by arranging a hot-closet drawer, adapted to be moved outand in from the base, made of sheet-iron, and an ornamental front plate, which corresponds in ornamentation to the rest of the base. This hot-closet drawer 0 preferably has sheet-metal sides, bottom, andrear end, is open on top, and has the castmetal front. ltis arranged to slideupou ledges or supports extending across the interior of the cabinet-base. The base is ofordiuary con- 5 struction, and it is made of cast-metal sides and ends, and, like all cabinet-bases, it has a skeleton frame not forming a portion of the stove, and simply designed as a stand to elevate the stove to a desirable he ght.
In the drawings, A isthe cabinet-base. a are the ledges or supports for the movable hotcloset drawer. B is the hot-closet, having the sheet-metal bottom 1), sides I), and inner end, I). The front of the closet-drawer is the cast- 5 metal plate b, which also forms the front surface of the cabinet-base. A suitable handle or handles may be arranged upon the front plate for moving the hot-closet drawer, if desired. A movable hot-closet of this description not only utilizes the space heretofore wasted, but has an advantage over the stationary (No model.)
' hot-closet used on stoves not provided with cabinet-bases, in that the closet may be drawn out and the article to be warmed or heated placed in and removed therefrom while it is out and while the whole lower surface of the closet is exposed to view-a very great advantage.
It will be observed that the hot-closet drawer herein described dilfers from an ordinary ashpan, in that it is not located so as receive ashes, and has no connection with the ashpit, and in that its front plate, 11 forms a portion of the front or side wall of the cabinetbase. 6
I am aware that the Patent No. 78,890, dated June 16, 1868, granted D. E. Paris, shows and describes a stove having beneath its main oven a seplrate warming-oven which is supported on rollers, and is adapted to be moved from beneath the stove when desired, and that this separate warming-oven is provided with doors. As, however, said stove is not provided with a cabinet-base having a hot-closet drawer adapted to be moved out to expose its con- 7 tents, and which is unprovided with doors, I
consider that the said patent does not embrace the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. The combination of a cabinet-base, A, with a movable hot-closet, B, all substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination of the cabinet-base A and the ledges or supports a with a hot-closet having for its front the front plate of the cabinet-base, which closet is adapted to be moved out and in in relation to the base horizontally, all substantially as and for the purposes described. I
3. The combination of a stove with a base portion having a hot-closet, B, the lront piece of which furnishes the front of said portion, and which hot-closet is adapted to be moved 5 horizontally in said portion ofthe stove, all substantially as and for the purposes described.
IVORY W. HARLOW.
