Description
(No Model.) 7
W; N. MORRISON,
. TEETH REGULATOR. No. 262,088. Patented Aug. '1, 1882'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM N. MORRISON, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
TOOTH-REGULATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 262,088, dated August 1, 1882.
Application filed January 25, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM N. MORRISON, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain Improvements in Appliances for Regulating Teeth, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
Among the welhknown appliances for regu* lating the teeth are strings and jack-screws.
The shape of the teeth is such thatit has been found very difficultto makea reliable connection between any of the various appliances and the teeth without injury to the enamel or surrounding tissues.
My improvement relates to means for making a secure connection between the tooth operated on and the tooth to which the regulating device is fastened; and it consists of a thin flat-metal ring orcap, whichis placed upon the tooth to be operated on, and firmly secured thereto by any suitable cement, said ring having an arm provided with an eye or hook at the end for the engagement of a rubber band or ring forming the active appliance.
The accompanying drawing shows my improved regulatingdevice forrotatinga twisted tooth into correct position.
A represents a lower gum; B, theincisorteeth O, the canine; D, the bicuspid, and E the molar.
(No model.)
H is an arm which extends from the cemented ring F, said arm having at its end an eye or hook, I, for the engagement of a rubber band or ring, J, which engages over another tooth,
and. whose tension causes the twisted tooth to gradually rotate in its socket.
In the place of the simple ring F, I sometimes use a cap, covering the top ot'the tooth, and cemented thereto in the same manner as the ring.
My device has been found very efficient in action, and causes but slight inconvenience to the person operated upon.
Having thusdescribed myinvention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
The combination, with a ring, F, cemented to a tooth, of an arm, H, formed to engage a spring, for the purpose set forth.
\VM. N. MORRISON.
