This invention relates to floodlight assemblies.
More particularly it is concerned with adjustably positioned housings for floodlights which are especially adapted for outdoor use in lighting gas stations, parkings lots, loading platforms and the like.
An object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described which includes a housing for an electric lamp socket and floodlight, said housing being pivotally mounted on a base member wherein wiring for said socket extending from said socket through said base member, is completely enclosed and weather proof.
Another object of this invention is to provide in a device of the character described, a housing for a lamp socket, a socket mounted within the housing and substantially filling the housing, said housing being provided with a passageway communicating with a downwardly projecting, enlarged hollow member adapted to be pivotally mounted with respect to a hollow supporting member having a communicating upwardly projecting enlarged hollow member complementary to said first mentioned member, whereby wiring may extend from the rear of said socket, through said passageway, through said enlarged hollow portions and into said hollow support.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide in a device of the character described, a pair of upper and lower members, pivotally connected about a horizontal axis, the upper member being in the form of a lamp socket housing and the lower member being in the form of a combined conduit and support, said members having hollow, whereby wiring attached to a lamp socket mounted in the socket housing, may be extended down-' wardly through said lower member and thereby protected from the weather, yet providing for movement of said upper member with respect to said lower member about said horizontal axis.
Still another object of this invention is' to provide in a device of the character described, a fioodlight housing pivotally mounted for vertical movement on a hollow support, said pivotal connection being formed with opposed domeshaped portions communicating with the housing and hollow portions of said support, where'- by wiring from a socket mounted in said housing may be extended through said pivotal connection intercommunicating portions to said support, a gasket being disposed between the opposed dome shaped portions of said housing and said hollow support, whereby said wiring is completely enclosed and protected from the elements without interfering with the adjusta bility ofsaid housing to any one of a plurality of angular positions.
Still a further object of this invention is to provide in a device of the character described, a substantially tubular shaped lamp housing hav-' ing mounted thereon a lamp socket substantially filling the interior of said housing, an extension of said housing forming a passageway, a hollow bracket portion extending from said passageway and in communication therewith, a hollow supporting member for said housing from which extends a hollow bracket portion complementary and opposed to said first, mentioned bracket portion and communicating with said support, a horizontal member connecting said complementary bracket portions and adapted to provide for adjustable angular movement of said housing with respect to said support, said housing and its bracket portion being formed with a communicating passageway whereby wiring from the rear of the socket mounted in said housing may be extended through said passageway and bracket portions and through said hollow support.
Yet a further object of this invention is to provide in a device of the character described,
a tubular housing provided at its front end with a flared portion formed with an annular recess on an inner surface of the rim thereof, a socket mounted within the housing and adapted to re-- ceive a floodlight bulb having a wall portion complementary to the flared portion of the housing, an annular gasket mounted in the recess in said flared portion of the housing, said gasket being adapted to contact the wall portion of said floodlight bulb thereby sealing the interior of said housing against the ingress of moisture or the like as well as acting as a cushion for the heat expanded bulb when said bulb is i1luminat' ed together with means for tiltably supporting said housing on a combined conduit and support, said housing and support having enclosed communicating passageways whereby wiring from said socket may extend through the said. tiltable supporting means into said conduit without in terfering with the tilting action of said housing with respect to said support.
Another object of this invention is to provide a compact and durable floodlight assembly of the character described, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, readily assembled and wired, and which shall yet be attractive in appearance, easy to use, practical and efficient to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be' obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements,
and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described,

Referring now in detail to the drawing, designates a floodlight assembly embodying the invention. The same comprises a housing generally designated as H, and a combined conduit and support pivotally connected to said housing, generally designated as 12.
The housing ll comprises a generally tubular walled member I3 having the major portion thereof cylindrical and closed at its rear end by a wall 14. Extending from the forward end 01' member I3, is a flared, part spherical walled portion l5. Extending longitudinally from the lower portion of tubular wall 13 is an enclosed passageway I6 in defining a channel having its open side directly in communicating with the interior of said tubular member. The passageway or channel [6 is formed by a pair of parallel, vertical walls ll, i8 interconnected by a bottom wall I52, and a back wall 2-fl,'whichis an extension of wall M.
It will be noted from a consideration of Fig. 4, that the passageway I6 is off centre with respect to the longitudinal axis of tubular member l3, the outersurface of wall I! defining a plane substantially coinciding with a vertical central plane longitudinally through said tubular member. The front wall 2| of passageway or channel 1-8 is spaced inwardly" of the front end of tubular member l3, as shown in Fig. 3.
Extending downwardly from a forward portion of walls l1, H3, is a vertically disposed enlarged, dome shaped walled bracket 22. The bracket 22 communicates at its upper end with the passageway or channel 15. A set screw or bolt 31 passing through the aligned openings and a nut 38 thereon, secure the brackets 22, 32 together, thereby forming an enclosed chamber therebetween. A look washer 39 is. on the screw or bolt 31, being disposed between the head thereof and the thickened wall portion 24. The housing H is thus adapted to be rotated or tilted with respect to the support I2 through the interfitting edges of the brackets 22, 32.
It is apparent that thereis through communication between the interior of tubular member l3, through passageway [6, the chamber formed by brackets 22, 32, the offset tubular portion 3| and nipple 30.
A conventional fioodlight socket 40 is coaxially mounted within tubular member l3, the rear portion thereof abutting the projections 21, 28. The socket substantially fills the rear portion of the housing and is secured in spaced relation to back wall M by headed screws 4|, passing through the socket. and received in threaded openings 29 in wall l4. Wiring 42, connected to the usual screw contacts on the rear of socket 411, runs parallel to the socket, being disposed in passageway 15 and extends through the chamber formed by brackets 22, 32, around screw or bolt 3'! and continue downwardly through oiTset tubular portion 3| and nipple 30, as indicated'in Fig. 3.

" The gasket 26 on the rim of the flared portion l5 of housing II which may be made of fibre,
rubber, or the like, is adapted to seat exterior portions of a floodlight bulb, not shown, which is screwed into or otherwise mounted in socket 40. In this manner, the inserted lamp effectively seals off the interior of the housing against the ingress of water or the like. Furthermore,
the compressibility of gasket 26 provides for the post 5|. The threaded nipple 30 of the support l2 may be suitably received in threaded openings in the upper surface of the cross arm 50 and the nuts 43 may be used to lock the support to the cross arm. It is apparent that the wiring 42 from each of the assemblies I!) may be extended from the nipple 30 into the hollow arm 50 and down through the post 5| to bewappropriately con nected to suitable power lines. Each of the assemblies may be tilted to a desired position and locked-in such position, as previously described.
The housing I I and support l2 may be made of cast metals or other materials which are weather proof and adapted to use for the purpose described.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is well adapted to meet the, conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth. it is to be understood that all matter here.- in set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is illustrative and not in a limiting sense, except as set forth in the claims.
Havin thus described my inv ntion. I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a floodlight lamp construction comprising a tubular body having an end wall and an outwardly flared open end opposite from sa d end wall, said end wall having perforat ons therein and having projections thereon extending forwardly within said body whereby a lamp bulb socket may be bolted a ainst said projections within said bodv, said flared open end terminat ing in an annular recess receiving a yie dable ga ket adhe ively secured therein whereby a bulbous lamp bulb may impinge against the yieldable gasket to orm a sealed joint, said bodv having a channel inte ral therewith depending there from and having its open side in direct communication with the interior of said body, said channel having an opening in its bottom portion along one end thereof, said channel having a depending wall integral therewith defining a continuation of said opening, said depending wall defining an outwardly concaved portion, forming a coplanar circular seat portion, said circular seat portion being adapted to cooperate with a complemental circular seat portion adapted to form a sealed joint when secured thereto by suitable fastening means, said channel and its openings, plus said concave portion providing ample space to receive electrically insulated conductors attachable to said lamp bulb socket.
2. The construction set forth in claim 1, in which the major portion of said tubular body is cylindrical and the flared portion of said body being contoured to define a portion of a hollow spherical body.

In a floodlight lamp construction comprising a tubular one-piece body having an end wall constituting a closure integral with said body, said end wall having spaced projections thereon and integral therewith and extending forwardly within said body and constituting a seat for a lamp bulb socket adapted to be secured in said body, the major portion of said tubular body being cylindrical and having a flaring portion extending forwardly therefrom and terminating in a recessed circular rim, said recessed rim being adapted to receive a yieldable gasket, said body having a channel depending therefrom and integral therewith, the open side of said channel being in direct communication with the interior of said body, said channel having an opening in its bottom wall, said opening being located adjacent the lower central portion of said tubular body, said channel having a wall extending therefrom and being integral therewith, said wall being formed with a concaved portion defining a circular coplanar upright seat adapted to cooperate with a complemental upright seat when. secured thereto by suitable fastening means, said channels, openings and concaved portion providing ample communicating space for insulated conductors attachable to said lamp bulb socket.
i. A lamp comprising a tubular housing having an integral end wall at one end thereof, and an integral flared portion at the other end thereof, said flared portion being formed with an annular recesson the interior of the rim portion thereof, a resilient annular gasket in said recess, a walled passageway integrally extending longitudinally from said tubular housing and in communication through its length with the interior of said housing, a dome shaped member integrally extending from one end of said passageway, the interior of said member communicating with said passageway, a support for said housing comprising a tubular member, a dome shaped member integrally extending from said tubular member, the interior of said second mentioned member communicating with said tubular member, said second mentioned member being complementary to said first mentioned member, and having base portions in opposed relation to base portions of said first mentioned dome shaped member, mean connecting said members, said connected members forming a hollow chamber therebetween and adapted to provide for angular movement and adjustment of said housing with respect to said support about an axis transverse to the axis of said support, the end wall of said housing having projections extending into the interior of said housing, a lamp socket disposed within said housing abutting said projections, and means securing said socket to said housing, said passageway, chamber and hollow support being adapted to receive therein wiring for said lamp socket.

A lamp comprising a tubular housing havlng an end wall at one end thereof, and a flared portion at the other end thereof, said flared portion beingformed with an annular recess on the interior of the rim portion thereof, a resilient annular gasket in said recess, a walled passageway extending longitudinally from said tubular housing and in communication with the interior of said housing through its length, a dome shaped member extending from one end of said passageway, the interior of said member communicating with said passageway, a support for said housing atesamcomprising a tubular member, a dome, shapedmember extending, from: said tubular member, the interior of said second mentioned. member communicating with said tubular member; said second; mentioned member being complementary tosaid first mentioned member, and having.v base portions in: opposed relation to base portions of said first mentioned domeshapedmember, means. connecting said members, said connected members forming. a hollow chamber therebetween and adapted. to provide for angular movement and adjustment of said housing with respect to said support about an axistransverse to the axis of said support, the end wall of said housing having projections extending into the interior of said housing; a lamp socket disposed within said housingabutting said projections, and means securing said socket to said housing, said passageway, chamber and hollow support being adapted to receive therein Wiring for said lamp socket, the edge portions of one of said dome shaped members forming, an interengaging lap joint with the edgejportions' of; the other of said dome shaped members, and an annulargasket disposed-between the interengaging portions of said members.

A lamp comprising a tubular housing, having an endrwall at oneend thereof, and a flared portion at the other end thereof, a walled passageway; extending longitudinally from said tubular housing and in communication with the interiorof. said housing throughout the length of said passageway, a dome shaped, member extending from said passageway, the interior of said member communicating; with said passageway, a
support. fOrsaid housing comprising tubular member, a dome shapedmemberextending from said. tubular member; the interior of said second mentioned membercommunicating' with said tubular' member, said second mentioned member being complementary to said first mentioned member, and having base portions in opposed relation to base portions of said first mentioned dome shaped member, means connecting said members, said connected members forming a. hollow chambertherebetween, andsaid connecting means providing for angular movement and adjustment of said housing with respect to said support about an. axis transverse to the axis of said support, a lamp. socket disposed withinv said housing, and means securing said socket to said housing, said passageway, chamber and hollow support. pro.- viding amplespace. to receive, therein. wiring for said lamp socket.
7. A lamp comprising a. lamp holder having a.
substantially cylindrical portion, anend. wall at a the; rear end of, said cylindrical, portion. and an outwardly flaring; portion at; the frontendlof said cylindrical portion, said. holder being provided with a projection. extending; downwardly from said cylindrical. portion, .andsaidprojecti'on being. formed with apassage communicating with the interior of the holder, said projection'being provided; with a; hollow portion forming, a recess opening to one side of: said hollow portion. and communicating withsaid passage, and a support for: said holder comprising a member having a hollow portion, forming a recessfacing, and come plementary to; said. first recess and: forming a chamber therewith, and atubular portioncon- I nected to said hollow. portion by a portion having apassage communicating with the recess inthei hollow portionof said supporting member, and,
