UNITED STATES 1 Claim.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in brassires, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a brassiere of the character herein described which embodies in its construction what may be called a pocket, such as may be conveniently and effectively employed for the storage of money and other valuables whichare being carried upon the person of the wearer.

As is customary in current styles, the outer feminine garments are usually devoid of pockets in which valuables could be stored, so that ladies, particularly when traveling, are inclined to hide such valuables in the upper end portion of their stockings, inside their brassires, or in other poorly accessible locations, rather than safekeeping the valuables in their handbags, purses, or pocket books, which are often subjected to loss or theft.

However, the security of valuables hidden in stockings or inside of brassieres is often overestimated, since such articles of clothing demand occasional adjustment and care is not always exercised in adjusting the position of the stocking or brassire as well as of the valuables contained therein. As a result, the valuables are frequently lost or misplaced, as will be clearly understood.

It is, therefore, a further object of the instant invention to eliminate the above disadvantages by providing a brassire which includes, as aforesaid, a built-in pocket in which the valuables may be placed for secure safekeeping, regardless of the amount and extent of adjustment which the brassiere, in itself, may occasionally demand.

Another object of the invention is to provide a brassiere equipped with a safekeeping pocket which is simple in construction, in which the pocket is quickly and easily accessible, and which, notwithstanding the provision of the pocket and the presence of the valuables therein, will not cause discomfort and will not be obtrusive so as toimpair the appearance of the user.

With the above more important objects in view, and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a brassiere, designated generally by the reference character 5, the same being of more or less conventional type and embodying in its construction pieces of fabric material forming, inter alia, a breast-receiving portion H, a lower chest portion l2, a back portion l3, and a pair of straps l4 whereby the entire brassiere is supported in the required position on the person of the wearer.

The essence of novelty in the invention resides in the provision of inner and outer walls l5, l6 which constitute the intermediate, frontal portion of the chest portion 12, the walls l5, [6 defining an elongated, transversely extending pocket 1| therebetween, as will be clearly apparent.

Suitable lines of stitching l8 are employed, of course, for securing the edge portions of the walls I5, l6 together and, if desired, the lower edge portion of the wall It may be doubled behind itself so as to overlap the adjacent edge portion of the wall l5, as indicated at l9. Similarly, the upper edge portion of the walls l5, I6 may straddle the lower edge portion of the breast-receiving portion I I, as indicated at 20.

For purposes of convenient accessibility, the pocket I1 is provided with a slot or opening 2| which is formed in the outer wall It and extends transversely of the brassiere and longitudinally of the pocket, substantially at the center of the latter, as shown.

The edges of the opening 2| may, in turn, be equipped with coacting members of a slide fastener 22, equipped with a pull tab 23, so that the pocket may be easily and quickly opened or closed.

It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be clearly apparent from the foregoing disclosure, and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed unnecessary.

While i the foregoing there has 'been shown and ldescribed'the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor 3 changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

A bras-si're having breast cups and a body encircling band below said breast cups, said band including a front portion composed Of inner and outer layers of material stitched together to form a pocket closed along top bottom and sides for the reception of articles, the outer layer of said front portion having a horizontal slit providing an entrance opening to said pocket, and means for se'parably connecting portions of said outer 15 layer at opposite sides of said slit for closing said opening.
