Description

April 5, 1949. o. A. DOERRLAMM HANDCART Filed May 12, 1948 IN V EN TOR.
Patented Apr. 5, 1949 UNITED STATES FATENT OFFICE HANDCART Otto A. Doerrlamm, Glendale, N. Y.
Application May 12, 1948, Serial No. 26,539
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to doll carts, and aims to provide certain new, useful and practical improvements therein whereby the utility and efficiency of the cart for carrying a doll or other article, thereby providing a very desirable practical toy for a child, are substantially enhanced.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel cart adapted to be pushed about by a child, with eflicient means for holding a doll or other article in upright position therein.
The above broad as well as additional and more specific objects will become apparent in the following description, Wherein characters of reference refer to like-numbered parts in the accompanying drawing. It is to be noted that the drawing is intended for the purpose of illustration only, and that it is neither desired nor intended to limit the invention necessarily to any or all of the exact details of construction shown except insofar as they may be deemed essential to the invention.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the doll cart of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2.
Fig. '7 is a perspective view of a bracket per se used in constructing the cart.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l0 indicates a frame including the two longitudinal, substantially parallel side members H, the upper cross-member I2 which also constitutes a handle for the cart, and the lower cross-member l3. An axle I4 is supported in the lower ends of the side members I l and is provided with rubher-tired wheels l5.
Angle-shaped brackets 16 have one arm ll secured against a frame member H just above the axle l4 and the other arm l8 extending inward at right angles to the arm 11, that is, the arms I8 extend toward each other and lie in a common plane. Supported on the bracket arms I6 is a forwardly extending floor H). The brackets 2 l6 are further provided with Wings 26 extending upward from the arms l8 and in the same plane as the arm ll.
A substantially rectangular sheet of fabric such as, for example, canvas, has its lower edge secured against the front and side and rear edges of the floor l9, by any suitable means as, for example, nails 2 l, to form a bag 22 open at the top. The said lower edge of the bag 22 passes between the wings 26 and the edge of the floor I9. A rubber strip 23 is held by the nails 2| against the greater portion of the front and side edges of the floor it.
A strap 2%, formed of two strips 26 and 26, the latter having a buckle 27, is provided by securing the strips 26 and 26, as by nails 28 against the third cross-member 26 of the frame H). The nails 23 also pierce the rear upper edge of the bag 22 and thus support the bag against the frame W. A doll 36 may thus be carried within the bag 22 by strapping the doll against the rear of the bag, with the upper portion of its body exposed above the bag, as illustrated in Fig. 1. A peg 3| is provided midway of the front of the floor 19, whereby the cart may be stood in upright position in stable condition.
t is thus apparent that a very useful and practical toy cart has been provided, in which a child may wheel her doll. If the child possesses more than one doll, she may alternately secure one or another doll in the bag by means of the strap 24.
Obviously, modifications in form or structure may be made without departing fro-m the spirit or scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A cart comprising a frame including two longitudinal side members and a plurality of cross-members, one of said cross-members being positioned intermediate the length of said frame, angle-shaped brackets each having one arm secured to said side members near the lower ends of the latter and having the other arm of each extending toward each other in a common plane, a floor supported on said other arms and extending forward of said frame, a tubular-shaped bag having one peripheral edge thereof secured to the peripheral edge of said floor and having one side of the other peripheral edge thereof secured to said intermediate cross-member, a peg extending downward from said floor and positioned ad- REFEREN'CES CITED jacent the front edge of the floor, and means for releasably securing an article such as, for ex- The following references are of record in the ample, a doll in said bag against the said one file of this patent: side of the other peripheral edge of the bag. 5
