3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in bar vide a device of this character having a pair of strong supporting brackets, a decorative member concealing each bracket, and a bar adapted to be supported by the brackets and detachably interlocked therewith wherein the construction is readily assembled and disassembled without requiring the use of securing means separate from said parts and wherein said partsand bar cooperate to positively lock said decorative portions in stationary operative relation whenthe device is assembled.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, strong, easy to assemble, and which uses securing means, all of which are concealed when the device is assembled.
Other objects will be apparent from the following specification.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the device with parts broken away.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary face view of the device with parts shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a face view of a modified embodiment of the invention with parts shown in section.
Fig. 4 is aside view of the device illustrated in Fig. 3 with parts thereof shown in section.
Referring to the drawing, and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 which illustrate one embodiment of the invention, the numeral designates a rigid bracket or anchoring member, here shown as an angle iron, having one leg [2 thereof adapted to bear fiat against a supporting surface and to be secured thereto by screws or other securing means IA. The other leg portion l6 of the anchoring member extends substantially perpendicularly from the base part l2 and has an aperture 18 formed therein adjacent its outer end. A second bracket 20 having a base flange 22 secured to a support by a screw 24 has a perpendicularly extending leg 26 in which a screwthreaded aperture 28 is formed in the same relation to the base leg 22 as the aperture l8 bears to the base leg 12 of the bracket H). An elongated rigid bar 30 is adapted to span the two brackets l0 and 20, being of a diameter to fit snugly in the aperture 18 of the bracket l0 and having its opposite end screw-threaded at 32 for threaded engagement with the threaded aperture 28 of the bracket 20.
A pair of similar decorative hollow caps 34 are adapted to fit around and conceal the two anchor brackets llland 20. These decorative members may be of any desired contour which is attractive in appearance and are preferably of substantially cup-shaped form. Each of these caps 34 has an inner wall 36' provided with an aperture 33 in which the bar 30 is adapted to have a snug slide fit when said aperture is positioned concentrically with said bar. The caps also are provided with side walls 40 preferably having vertical enlargements at the corner'portions adjacent the inner walls 36 and grooved at 42 to fit snugly and slidably upon the leg portions 16 and 26 of the respective brackets l0 and 20. The caps may be formed of metal, plastic, glass or any other suitable material and may be of comparatively weak construction inasmuch as they are not required to sustain any of the stresses applied to the device. The open end of the cap is preferably bounded by an edge lying in a flat plane to bear continuously against the Wall or the surface to which the base legs l2 and 22 of the anchoring members It) and 20 are secured when the aperture 38 thereof registers with the bar 30.
In the use of the device, the bracket II! is first secured in desired position to the wall, door or other support by the securing screw l2. A cap 34 is then applied thereover by the sliding guide fit of the grooves 42 in its side wall portions with the opposite side margins of the flange 16 of the anchor member [0. When the cap 34 is urged to place with its free edge bearing against the surface on which the bracket base leg I2 is secured, it will completely conceal the bracket l0, and its aperture 38 will register with the aperture l8 of the bracket leg 16. The bar 30 may then he slid through the registering apertures 38 and 8 to the dotted line position shown in Fig. l. Thereupon the bracket 20 is secured to the supporting surface with its threaded aperture 28 in axial alignment with the aperture l8 of the bracket 10. The cap 34 for the bracket 20 is then applied to operative position. Thereupon the -rod is slid lengthwise, that is, to the left from the dotted line position in Fig. 1, passing through the opening 38 of the cap 34 and inwardly for engagement of its screw-threaded end portion 32 with the screw-threaded aperture 28 of the bracket. Rotation of the bar will firmly interlock the same with the bracket 20 and the parts asnug slide fit of the bar 'walls'52 of the anchor members.

be used for any of a number of purposes either 7 as household fixtures or as hardware items. Thus, as mentioned above, the"device"is J well suited as a towel bar, a handle member, a door pull, or a guard bar or rail as for stairways 'arid the like. It willbe apparent that the securing members It and 24, being p'os itioned within the caps 34, are completely condensates likewise "that the threaded engagement of'gthe bar with thebracket' 253 at 32'maybe'conceald; The s'iz s of theopenings l8 of the bracket l 0, and 38 of the cap; will preferably be limited to that providing therein, thus prevent- "ing loose fits and free play, and'also serving further to conceal the securing means.
A modified. embodiment of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4. In this form of'the invention. the anchor members constitute cupshaped. rigid members, each havin abase' 50 and endless side .walls 52, here sh-ownas cylindr cal.... ,n form. 4 and 2, This form of the device is assembled in the same manner described above with reference to the Fig. 1 form of the device.
While two embodiments of the invention have been illustrated and described herein, it will be understood that changes in the construction of the device may be made within the scope of the apl zyended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim: 1. A device of the character described, comprising a pair of brackets adapted to be mounted on a support in spaced relation and each including a guide portion having a bar-receiving aperturefa bar fitting in said apertures at its opposite ends, and a pair of decorative caps each havposition on said guides by ing a guided slide fit on a bracket and a barr'e'ceiving aperture registering with the bracket aperture, said guide portion including a rigid "plate portion disposed substantially perpendic- 'ular to s'aid'bar and said cap having interior grooves having afsnug sliding fit'on theo'p'posite margins of said plate portion.
