A shoe made in accordance with this invention, as described above, is of distinctive and orna mental appearance, and has the desired and required flexibility which make for comfortable wear. This latter property of theimproved shoe results largely from the fact that the-lower;edge

portions of the Vamp 3 and upper quarter do not underlap the platform I of the shoe, as is usually the case, but, instead, the lower edges of said vamp and upper quarter are substantially flush with the bottom face of the platform, as referred to above, and as is shown to good advantage in F gs. 1, 5, and 6.

In Fig. 7 a modified form of the invention is shown which illustrates the present invention as embodied in a sandal. In this form of the invention the platform ll of the sandal is provided with a, platform cover, or sock lining, l2 which is cemented to the top face of the platform and extends throughout the entire area of said top face of said platform. The platform cover, or sock lining, I2 is provided with tongues 13 of proper widths which pass through openings is between strap-like elements l5 of the vamp it of the sandal and are drawn down tight about the edge of the platform and are turned inwardly beneath, and are cemented to the bottom face of the platform.

Fig. 7 illustrates only the forward portion of a sandal made in accordance with this invention, but it is obvious that an upper quarter (not shown) would be attached to the platform H in the same manner that the vamp Iii is attached to said platform. Also, the sandal shown in Fig. '7 would include an outsole (not shown) which would be cemented to the bottom face of the platform I l with the inturned portions of the tongues l3 interposed between the top face of the outsole and the bottom face of the platform, Obviously, portions of the vamp l6 are embraced by the downturned portions of the tongues I3 so that said vamp portions are interposed between said downturned tongue portions and the edge of the platform, and tongues l1 formed on the platform cover, or sock lining, [2 at the toe of the sandal are drawn down tight and are cemented to the bottom face of the platform to provide the sandal with an open toe portion. If desired, the rearmost strap-like portions l5a of the vamp it of the sandal, shown in Fig. '7, may be provided with extensions l5b which are turned under the bottom face of the platform II and are cemented thereto.

In Fig. 8 is shown a modified form of the invention in accordance with which lower edge portions of an upper portion I8 of the shoe, that is the vamp or the upper quarter, are turned under the platform l5 slightly, as is shown at I80. in Fig. 8, said turned under marginal extensions of said upper portion of the shoe being cemented, or otherwise secured to the platform. By so turning under marginal portions of the shoe upper a more finished appearance is given to the shoe at the lower edges of the vamp and the upper quarter thereof without materially interfering with the flexibility of the shoe.

I claim:

1. A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upper shoe portion provided with apertures, tongues extended from said inner sole member, said tongues being extended outwardly through the apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said shoe upper portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongues and marginal edge portions of said inner sole member, and said tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole member and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said inwardly extended tongue portions being interposed between said inner sole member and said outsole.

A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upper shoe portion provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper shoe portion, tongues extended from said inner sole member, said tongues being extended outwardly through the apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of por-- tions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said shoe upper portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongues and marginal edge portions of said inner sole member, and said tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole' member and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said inwardly extended tongue portions being interposed between said inner sole member and said outsole.

A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upper shoe portion provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper shoe portion, a sock lining fixedly associated with said inner sole member and having tongues extended therefrom, said tongues being extended outwardly through the apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said shoe upper portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongues and marginal edge portions of said inner sole member, and said tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole member and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said inwardly extended tongue portions being interposed between said inner sole member and said outsole.

A shoe comprisin an inner sole member, an upper shoe portion provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper shoe portion, a sock lining fixedly associated with said inner sole member and having spaced tongues extended therefrom, said tongues being extended outwardly through the apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said shoe upper portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongues and marginal edge portions of said inner sole member, and said tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole member and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said inwardly extended tongue portions bein interposed between said inner sole member and said outsole,

A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upper shoe portion provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper shoe portion, a sock lining fixedly associated with said inner sole member and having spaced integral tongues extended therefrom, said tongues beingextended outwardly through the apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said shoe upper por- "saidinner sole member, an said tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole member and being secured'thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said inwardly extended tongue portions being interposed between said inner sole member and said outsole.

6. 'A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upper shoe porti-onprovided with apertures which arespajced longitudinally of and are located adj acent t'oth'e lower edge of said upper shoe. portion, a sock lining fixedly associated with said inner sole member, and having tongues extended therefrom, certain of said tongues being extended through apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said upper shoe portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongue portions and marginal edge portions of said inner sole member, and others of said tongues being extended downward inwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion, portions of the first-mentioned and the second-mentioned tongues being extended inwardly beneath thebottom face of said inner sole member and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said tongue portions which are extended inwardly beneath said inner sole member being interposed between said inner sole member and said outsole.

A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upper shoe portion provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper shoe portion, a sock lining fixedly associated with said inner sole member and having tongues extended therefrom, the lower edge of the material forming said upper shoe portion being located outwardly of the marginal edge of said inner sole member,

certain of said tongues being extended through apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said upper shoe portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongue portions and marginal edge portions of Said inner sole member, and others of said tongues being extended downward inwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion, portions of the first-mentioned and the second-mentioned tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole member and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said tongue portions which are extended inwardly beneath said inner sole member being interposed between said inner sole member and said outsole.

8. A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upper shoe portion provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper shoe portion, a sock lining fixedly associated with said inner sole member and having contiguous tongues extended therefrom, the lower edge of the material forming said upper shoe portion being located outwardly of the marginal edge of said inner sole member, certain of said tongues being extended through apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said upper shoe portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongue portions and marginal edge portions of said inner sole member, and others of said tongues being extended downwardinwardly of portions or said upper shoe portion, portions of the first-mem tioned and the second-mentioned tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole member and being secured there"- to, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said tongue portions which are extended inwardly beneath said inner sole member being interposed between said inner sole member and saidoutsole '9. A shoe comprising an inner sole member, an upperfshoe portionprovided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper shoe portion, a sock lining fixedly associated with said inner sole member and having integral tongues extended therefrom, the lower edge of the mate'- rial forming said upper shoe portion being located outwardly of the marginal edge of said inner sole member, certain of said tongues being extended through apertures of said upper shoe portion and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion so as to cause said portions of said up er shoe portion to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongue portions and marginal edge portions of said inner sole member, and others of said tongues being extended downward inwardly of portions of said upper shoe portion, portions of the first-mentioned and the second-mentioned tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said inner sole member and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said inner sole member at the bottom face thereof, said tongue portions which are extended inwardly beneath said inner sole member being interposed between said inner sole member and said outsolg.

10. A shoe comprising a platform, an upper quarter provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper quarter, a vamp provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said vamp, a platform cover fixedly associated with said platform and having tongues extended therefrom, certain of said tongues being extended through apertures of said upper quarter and said vamp and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper quarter and said vamp so as to cause said portions of said upper quarter and said vamp to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongue portions and marginal edge portions of said platform, and others of said tongues being extended downward inwardly of portions of said upper quarter and of said vamp, portions of the first-mentioned and the second-mentioned tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said platform and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said platform at the bottom face thereof, said tongue portions which are extended inwardly beneath said platform being interposed between said platform and said outsole.

11. A shoe comprising a platform, an upper quarter provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper quarter, a vamp provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said vamp, a platform cover fixedly associated with said platform and having integral tongues extended therefrom, certain of said tongues being extended through apertures of said upper quarter and said vamp and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper quarter and said vamp so as to cause said portions of said upper quarter and said vamp to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongue portions and marginal edge portions of said platform, and others of said tongues being extended downward inwardly of portions of said upper quarter and of said Vamp, portions of the first-mentioned and second-mentioned tongues being extended inwardly beneath the bottom face of said platform and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said platform at the bottom face thereof, said tongue portions which are extended inwardly beneath said platform being interposed between said platform and said outsole.

12. A shoe comprising a platform, an upper quarter provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said upper quarter, a vamp provided with apertures which are spaced longitudinally of and are located adjacent to the lower edge of said vamp, a platform cover fixedly associated with said platform and having integral tongues extended therefrom, the lower edges of the material portions forming said upper quarter and said Vamp being located outwardly of the mar-- ginal edge of said platform, certain of said tongues being extended through apertures of said upper quarter and said vamp and being extended downward outwardly of portions of said upper quarter and said Vamp so as to cause said portions of said upper quarter and said vamp to be interposed between said downwardly extended tongue portions and marginal edge portions of said platform, and others of said tongues being extended downward inwardly of portions of said upper quarter and of said vamp, portions of the first-mentioned and the second-mentioned tongues being extended in- Wardly'beneath the bottom face of said platform and being secured thereto, and an outsole secured to said platform at the bottom face thereof, said tongue portions which are extended inwardly beneath said platform being interposed between said platform and said outsole.
