This invention relates to new and useful improvements in coveralls, and more particularly to elastic suspenders which are arranged on the inside of the coveralls and serve to support the garment from the waist, as distinguished from the ordinary coveralls where the weight of the entire garment is carried or supported by the shoulders of the wearer.

The effect of my improvement is to give the wearer greater freedom in bending over and in arm movement, whereas, with the ordinary coveralls, binding is produced under such circumstances with its attendant objections.

With the foregoing and other objects in vievi that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of coveralls, embodying my improvements, and Figure 2 is an enlarged detail fragmentary view of the improvement per se.

Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates the coveralls, as a whole, and B the elastic suspenders or support which constitutes my present improvement. As shown, the elastic suspenders or support are arranged on the inside of the garment and comprise the right and left strap members I and 2, connected together at the back by the elastic cross strip 3. The strap members l and 2 are each formed from a single continuous elastic strip, and comprise the vertical parallel back portions 4, whose lower ends are formed with button-holes 5 to engage the buttons 6, sewed or otherwise secured to the back of the garment, at the waist line, the transverse intermediate shoulder portions 1, which extend beneath and across the shoulders of the garment, and the vertical front portions 8, whose lower ends 9 are connected to the buttons l0, fastened to the inside and front of the waist line over the hips. The lower ends 9 of the front portions 3 of the strap members I and 2 are provided, each, with a plurality of longitudinally spaced 2 button-holes ll, whereby the garment may be adjusted to fit perfectly at the crotch and at the same time have a sort of blouse effect above the Waist. line, to permit the wearer perfect freedom of body or arm movement.

The back, shoulder and front portions 4, 1 and 8, respectively, of the strap members I and 2, pass through transverse loops [2, l3 and I4, which serve to retain said strap members in place, while at the same time allowing necessary adjustment to accommodate the movements of the wearer.

With the ordinary coveralls, the weight of the entire garment is carried from the shoulders of the garment itself, which results in binding if the wearer bends over. In order to overcome this objection, the wearer generally wears the garment several inches too long at the crotch, with the result that when he bends over or raises his arms, the entire upper part of the coveralls slips up over his other clothing. My improvement eliminates the above objections in that the garment is supported from the waist and the effect of this is to give the wearer greater freedom of body and arm movement.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my improvements will be readily understood, without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

In combination With a coverall, elastic suspenders arranged at the inside of the coverall and adapted to support the latter at the front and back of the waist line, said suspenders comprising right and left strap members, each made from a single continuous elastic strip, said strap members consisting of vertically disposed parallel back portions connected together by an elastic link, transverse intermediate shoulder portions and vertical front portions, transverse loops sewed to the inside of the garment and adapted to receive the back portions of the strap members, other transverse loops sewed to the inside of the garment and adapted to receive the intermediate shoulder portions of the strap members and transverse loops also sewed to the inside of the garment to receive the front portions of the strap members, the loops of the respective strap members being disposed in alignment whereby the suspenders are permitted to freely slide.
