This invention relates to electric dry shaving apparatus having a cap-like shearing head guard which is attached to the electr c-conductive supply cord, the arrangement being, advantageously, such that the contact member of the supply cord serving for connecting the apparatus,
with the supply main is adapted to provide at the same time the guard, cap for the shearing head. i
The guard cap attached to the supply cord can neither become lost nor be removed to an improper place. If, according to the invention, the contact member of the supply cord, for example, a contact plug is, advantageously, so constructed that it is adapted to serve at the same time as the guard cap for the shearing head provision is made for winding the supply cord on the body of the apparatus in convenient manner. By placing this contact plug on the shearing head the outer end of the cord is positively located relative to the apparatus, so that the cord can be wound on in doubled up condition and thus in half the time otherwise required.
The two connecting pins of the contact plug can be used as fork arms for receiving the cord therebetween. Furthermore, it is advantageous to give such a form to the rear portion of the apparatus as to prevent the windings of the coiled cord from sliding off of the apparatus in the lateral direction. The terminal loop of the coiled cord can be secured on the connecting pins if the cord is of an appropriate length.
By virtue of this arrangement, the ready storing away of the apparatus in an orderly manner is ensured with the aid of simple means and the insertion of the apparatus in a case is facilitated. Apart from this the possibility of the guard cap not being put in place on the apparatus inadvertently, after the latter has been used, is positively avoided.
For winding the supply cord on the apparatus parallel with the longitudinal axis of the latter it is advantageous to provide a pivotal connection between the cord and the apparatus. By this means the formation of a kink in the cord at its point of junction with the apparatus is avoided and the winding operation is facilitated. At the same time, provision is made that for storing the apparatus away a minimum of space is required.
In the accompanying drawing several. embodiments of the invention are illustrated, by way 01' example only, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a first embodiment of the invention representing a dry shaving apparatus having an electric supply cord and a contact plug providing a guard cap for the stimuli-mg hail;

The numeral l designates the handle of the electric dry shaving apparatus. A switching button 2 serves 1'01 connecting and disconnecting an electric driving arrangement built in the handle I. A shearing head 4 is secured to the casing of the apparatus by means of a closure 01' which for the purpose of illustration only the two finger pieces 3 projecting out of the handle are shown. The shearing head is composed of an outer comb-like cutting member or comb 4 and an inner cutting member 4", the latter being operatively connected with the driving arrangement for reciprocation relative to the former.
As shown in Fig. 2, the comb of the shearing head is arcuately curved outward in the longitudinal direction, that is, in the direction of movement, of the inner cutting member. Apart irom this the cross section of the comb is embossed in V-shape, as shown in Fig. 1. Further the terminals of the driving arrangement. These projections extend from the outward bulged bottom 6" of the casing l or body of the apparatus and receive the pivots 6 of the socket 6.
The current conductive connection between the cord I and the electric driving arrangement of the apparatus is effected by contact springs 1" slidably engaging with the pivots 6'. The swinging movement of the pivotal socket 6 is limited by slanting portions of the bottom 6" situated on either side of the axis of the pivots 6'. The socket 8 in bearing against either of said slanting portions assumes an upturned position as shown in chain-dotted lines in Fig. 2. The outer'end of the supply cord is provided with a contact plug 8 having a rounded off edge 8' and two connecting pins 8.
The insulating member of the contact plug is,
- advantageously, made of soft rubber material.
One end of the insulating member is formed into a guard cap for the shearing head. This end portion of the guard cap is provided with a cavity Ill for interfitting with the shearing head and is adapted to be pushed on the shearing head so that the susceptible portion of said head is protected against detrimental influences from without.
. If after the apparatus has been. used the contact plug is placed in position on the shearing-head, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, provision has thus been made at the same time for storing the apparatus away in an orderly manner. The reason for this is that the supply cord can be wound on the apparatus in doubled up condition, as shown in chain dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2, in parallelism with the longitudinal axis of the casing, forming the handle of the apparatus, much easier than if the contact plug had not been fixed in position. The operation of winding the supply cord in doubled up condition on or off the casing of the apparatus takes only half the time required for winding the cord in a single length. The terminal loop 1 can be hooked to the connecting pins in the manner shown in Fig. 2, thereby securing the coiled cord in position. The two connecting pins on the one hand and two projecting stops 5' provided at the rear end of the casing on the other hand prevent the windings of the coiled cord from sliding off laterally.
In winding the supply cord on the casing of the apparatus the thimble 6 swings into bearing engagement with the casing so that the winding operation is not hampered in any way atthe point of junction of the supply cord with the casing. By virtue of the pivotal connection between the supply cord and the casing of the apparatus the cord can be wound on the casing in space-saving manner about the rounded off edge 8' of the contact plug 8.
Figs. 4 and 5 illustrate modified details of a modification of the first embodiment of the electric dry shaving apparatus. The apparatus comprises again a casing or handle 2| and a switching button, not shown, for controlling an electric driving arrangement built in the handle and serving for actuating a longitudinally curved shearing head, which is composed of anouter and inner cutting member, similar to corresponding members 4', l" of the first embodiment. This head is secured to the casing by means of a closure having finger pieces similar to pieces 3 of the first embodiment, and the point of junction between the cord and the casing of the apparatus is located in a recess of the casing. The casing portion merging in the recess is so roundednfl towards outside that the cord being placed on said roundish portion in taut condition folds down thereover on at least one of the circumferential surface portions of the casing of the apparatus free from kinks. The roundish portion of the casing merges in the corresponding circumferential casing portion, the radii of curvature with which said rounded off casing portion merges in said recess and the corresponding circumferential casing portion exceed 3 This arrangement requires the point of junction at which the supply cord enters the casing to be funnel-shaped or be positioned beside one or more rounded off projections arranged on the casing. Advantageously, the apparatus is provided with a guard cap for the shearing head which cap is attached to the cord and provides at the same time a round edge on the casing or body of the apparatus for the cord to bear on when the latter is wound on said body. Apart from the junction between the supply cord and the casing of the apparatus this modification or the first embodiment of the invention is like said embodiment.

This modification of the rear end of the casing provides for the projection 25 to have projecting stops 25 and, being rounded off all about, permits the cord to. be tightly folded down thereover into contact with the outside of the casing without kinking and disengaging from the casing.
The insulating portion of the supply cord 1 of the contact plug 8 having connecting pins 9 and being fastened to the outer end of the supply cord is, advantageously, made of soft rubber or a, similar resilient material and is provided also in this instance with a rounded ofi edge 8.
The winding of the cord on the body of the apparatus is efiected in a manner similar to that described in connection with the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 3. During the winding operation the cord folds over the rounded off projection 5 and the rounded off edge 8' so that this operation is not hampered at the point of junction of the cord with the body in any way and the risk of the cord kinking is thus positively avoided in'this instance also.
The modification of the rear end of the supply cord described immediately above further permits the cord to be wound on the'body of the apparatus in a manner differing from that shown in Figs. land 2, for example helically, at at a more or less steep inclination of the windings to the longitudinal axis of the apparatus body.
,The second embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 5 differs from that shown in Figs. 1 to 3 in that the supply cord 1 is anchored to, a
thimble II which is rotatably arranged in the casing or body of the apparatus at the point of junction between the latter and the cord so as to be rockable about its axis relative to the casing.. The two strands of the supply cord lead the electric current to contact rings H, il" provided in the thimble ll. Sliding contacts l2, II" respectively are contacting with said contact rings for leading the electric current into the energising circuit of the driving arrangement built in the handle of the apparatus.

We claim:
1. In an electric dry shaving apparatus having a shearing head projecting from a casing, an electric driving arrangement having connecting terminals included in said casing, an electroconductive supply cord connected with said terminals and leading out of said casing at a point of junction between said cord and said casing, and a guard cap for said shearing head attached to said supply cord, said cap being formed with a cup adapted to fit on the shearing head to protect said head when not in use.
2. In an electric dry shaving apparatus having a shearing head projecting from a casing, an electric driving arrangement having connecting terminals included in said casing, an electroconductive supply cord connected with said terminals and leading out of said casing at a point of junction between said cord and said casing, and a contact carrying member connected with the outer end of said supply cord, said carrying member being formed with a cup adapted to fit over said shearing head to serve as a guard cap to protect said head when not in use.
3. In an electric dry shaving apparatus hav ing a shearing head projecting from a casing, an electric driving arrangement having connecting terminals included in said casing, an electroconductive supply cord connected with said terminals and leading out of said casing at a point of junction between said cord and said casing, a contact carrying member connected with the outer end of said supply cord, and constituting a guard cap for said shearing head at the same time, at least two contact pins on said contact carrying member providing a forked portion on said member for securing thereto the end point of junction between said cord and said casing, said supply cord having a predetermined length, a contact carrying member connected with the outer end oi said supply cord and iormed with a cup adapted to fit over said head and protect it when not in use. and at least two connecting pins on said contact member providing a forked portion on said membar for securing thereto the end portion or a coil formed by said cord in the doubled over condition of the latter, so as to surround said apparatus.
6. In an electric dry shaving apparatus having a shearing head projecting i'rom a casing,
' an electric driving arrangement having connecting terminals included in said casing, an electroconductive supply cord connected with and terminals and leading out of said casing at a point of junction between said cord and said casing, and adapted to be coiled about said casing, a guard cap for said shearing head attached to said supply cord, and stop means provided on the end or said casing remote from said shearing head for preventing the windings of'said coiled cord from sliding on said casing, said cap formed as a cup adapted to flt over said shearing head and protect it when not in use.
7. In an electric dry shaving apparatus having a shearing head projecting from a casing, .an electric driving arrangement having connecting terminals included in said casing, an electroconductive supply cord connected with said terminals and leading out of said casing at a point of junction between. said cord and said casing, two projections arranged on said casing on opposite sides of said junction, a pivotal socket provided for said cord between said projections for permitting the cord to be turned into bearing contact with said casing without sharply bending the cord itself and a plug connected with the free end of said cord, said plug comprising a body of insulating material and having portion of a coil formed by said cord so as to surround said apparatus, and a guard cap formed with a cup adapted to flt over said shearing head to protect said head when not in use, said cap being attached to said supply cord.

In an electric dry shaving apparatus having a shearing head projecting from a casing, an electric driving arrangement having connecting terminals included in said casing, an electroconductive supply cord connected with said terminals and leading out of said casing at a point of junction between said cord and said casing, and a contact carrying member connected with the outer end of said supply cord and formed with a cup adapted to at over said head and protect it when not in use.
5. In an electric dry. shaving apparatus having a shearing head projecting from a casing, an
electric driving arrangement having connecting 5 terminals included in said casing, an electroconductive supply cord connected with said terminals and leading out oi said casing at a 7 a pair of connection pins projecting from its end opposite the cord, one side of said body havina a cup formed therein with its open end opening in the opposite direction to the direction of projection of said pins, the cup being of proper size and shape as to fit over the shearing head and protect it when not in use while the pins will project from the end of the casing and serve to hold the cord when doubled and wrapped around the casing longitudinally for packing.
8. In an electric dry shaving apparatus having a shearing head projecting from a casing, an electric driving arrangement having connecting terminals included in said casing. an electroconductive supply cord connected with said terminals and leading out or said casing at a point of junction between said cord and said casing, said junction being situated in a recess provided in said casing, said casing having a rounded oil portion adjoining said recess at least on one side of the latter and merging with its curvature in said recess from outside for said supply cord leading out of said casing through said recess to fold over said curvature into bearing contact with a corresponding side portion without kinking when tautened, and a guard cap for said shearing head attached to said supply cord. said cap being of the proper size and shape to closely fit on said shearing head and being so positioned on said cord that the cord is taut when fully wound on the casing and the cap is in place on the head.

In an electric shaving apparatus including a contact member electro-conductively connected with the outer end of said cord, means for anchoring the inner end of said cord to said body, and a shearing head guard member permanently connected to said cord at the end of an inner portion thereof of a relatively great length with respect to the whole length of said cord and adapted to cover said head in position of protecting the latter, said body together with said guard, when applied on the shearing head, forming a cord storage portion on which the inner portion is adapted to be wound, said storage portion including the point of anchorage of the inner end of the cord, whereby the space requirements of the apparatus including the guard are minimized for packing purposes. 7
10. In an electric shaving apparatus including a body, aprotective shearing head, and a conductor cord adapted to be stored during nonuse of the apparatus, comprising in combination a contact member electro-conductively connected with the outer end of said cord, means for anchoring the inner end of said cord to said body,
and a concave guard member permanently connected to said cord at the end of an inner portion of the latter adjacent to said contact member, said guard member being adapted to cover said head in position of protecting the latter, said body together with said guard, when applied on the shearing head, forming a cord storage portion on which the inner portion is adapted to be wound, said storage portion including the point of anchorage of the inner end of the cord, whereby the space requirements of the apparatus including the guard are minimized for packing purposes.
11. In an electric shaving apparatus including a body, a protective shearing head, and a conductor cord adapted to be stored during non-use of the apparatus, comprising in combination a contact member electro-conductively connected with the outer end of said cord, means for anchoring the inner end of said cord to said body, a concave guard member permanently connected to said cord at the end of an inner portion of the latter adjacent to said contact member, and means provided on said guard member for adjusting the latter longitudinally of said cord, said guard member being adapted to cover said head in position of protecting the latter, said body together with said guard, when applied on the shearing head, forming a cord storage portion on which the inner portion is adapted to be wound, said storage portion including the point of anchorage of the inner end of the cord, whereby the space "requirements of the apparatus including the guard are minimized. for packing purposes.
