UNDERGARMENT FOR HORSEBACK RIDING Filed Feb. 3, v 1941 Patented May 4, 1943..
UNITED ,nane
STATES ATENT OFFICE UNDERGARMENT FOR HORSEBACK RIDING Application February 3, 1941, Serial No. 377,219
2 Claims.
This invention relates to underwear particularly designed for use in riding horseback and it has for its object to provide a garment of this character which is well adapted and comfortable for that particular purpose and constructed to be reinforced where the most wear occurs.
In riding horseback a large part of the weight of the rider is supported upon the seat and considerable wear occurs on the garments at the inner part of the thigh and the inner side of the knee where the legs hug the saddle. This invention provides a seat and inner leg portien designed for comfort and durability and the invention provides other novel features hereinafter more fuly described and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accoin panying drawing, in which,
Fig. l is a front perspective view of the lower part of the body of a wearer showing a garment embodying this invention in place.
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is an inverted sectional plan on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.
The garment is of a type usually known as drawers and has the conventionally constructed body I and outer leg portions 2. The bottoms of the legs are preferably provided with straps 3 which fit under the instep of the wearer to hold the legs down. The conventional inseam 4 may be provided at the inner lower parts of the legs 2 but in the case of this invention this inseam 4 will terminate a substantial distance below the knee where it meets the lower edge of the gusset 5.
The gusset 5 is inserted at the inner portion of the garment and constitutes the crotch portion 6, the seat 1, a small part of the front 8 above the crotch and the inner parts of the legs 9 extending an appreciable distance below the knee.
This gusset 5 may be made of two parts on opposite sides of the garment joined by a seam ill, the seam l0 following the dividing line of the crotch but no other part of the gusset has a seam which will bear against any part of the body under pressure when in use. The opposite seat portions 1 and the inner leg portions extending from the crotch to a point appreciably below the knee are without seams so that the seat of the wearer in sitting in the saddle and the pressure of his inner legs against the saddle will not be made uncomfortable by seams in the material.
The gusset is inserted in a correspondingly shaped opening provided in the body material of the garment and is joined thereto by a seam ll extending entirely around the gusset and the gusset is preferably of heavier material than that of the remainder of the garment to provide more durability at the points where the most wear ocours.
The garment shown in the drawing is designed for womens wear but with minor changes, and without affecting the present invention, the garment may be adapted for mens wear.
The invention is defined in the appended claims and is to be considered comprehensive of all forms of structure coming within their scope.
I claim:
1. An undergarment comprising a body portion and leg portions, 2. gusset inserted in the inner sides of said leg portions and extending from the crotch to a point appreciably below the knee, said gusset being seamless and unbroken at said inner leg portions, and comprising two parts seam joined from front to rear at their adjacent upper side edges.
2. An undergarment comprising a body and leg portions and a gusset inserted in said inner leg portions and extending downwardly from the crotch to a point appreciably below the knee and extending upwardly to form the major part of the seat portion, said gusset comprising two substantially identical parts connected together by a seam extending from front to rear at their adjacent. upper side edges and being seamless and unbroken at the inner leg and seat portions.
