BADGE CARRIER Filed Deal. 5, 1941 Inventbr At toruey Patented June 9, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BADGE CARRIER Bernard Logsdon, East Moline, Ill.
Application December 3, 1941, Serial No. 421,512
2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in badge carriers for factory workers identification badges which according to prevalent practice must be worn on display at all times in the factory or when entering or leaving the factory.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed, inexpensive, easily applied device of this character for attaching such badges to shirt, vest, or other pockets, so as to fully display a badge, and which is especially adapted for attaching a badge to a buttonequipped pocket without interfering with the buttoning or unbuttoning of such a pocket.
To the accomplishment of the above, and subordinate objects presently appearing, a preferred embodiment of my invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, set forth in details in the succeeding description, and defined in the claims appended hereto.
In said drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation illustrating the preferred embodiment of my improved carrier applied to a button-equipped pocket,
Figure 2 is a view in front elevation of the carrier detached, and
Figure 3 is a view in vertical section taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, my improved carrier has been illustrated therein as applied to a shirt pocket I having an upper central buttonhole 2 for a button 3 stitched, as at 4, to the shirt 5,
In its preferred embodiment, my improved carrier comprises an elongated, rectangular body member 6 for insertion in said pocket I, and an end flap I on said member foldable on said end over the edge of the pocket I to hang pendent on the outside of said pocket, said flap I being designed for the attachment thereto of the usual clasp pin badge 8. The flap I may be provided with a rounded free end 9 toeliminate corners thereon. A substantially diamond-shaped aperture I is provided in the longitudinal center of the body member 6 and flap and centered in the fold of the flap "I and through which the button stitches 4 extend, said aperture I0 being adapted to straddle the button 3 to render the same readily accessible for buttoning and unbuttoning the pocket I.
The described carrier is formed of a single piece of suitable material, preferably leather, the body member 6 including two layers formed by folding the material upon itself. The layers of the body member 6 are stitched together, as at I I, around the side edges thereof and also around I I, the button 3 is first detached, the body member '6 then inserted in the pocket I and the button 3 sewed in place through the aperture III. The carrier may also be used in a pocket which is not equipped with a button and by merely inserting the body member 6 in such a pocket as will be clear.
The foregoing, it is believed, will suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A badge carrier for insertion in a garment pocket having an upper buttonhole and a button sewed to the garment, said carrier comprising an elongated rectangular body member for insertion in said pocket, an end flap on said member for attachment of the badge thereto and foldable on said end over the edge of the pocket to hang pendent on the outside of said pocket, said body member and flap having a substantially diamond-shaped aperture in the longitudinal center thereof centered in the fold of the flap and through which the button stitches extend and which straddles the button to render the same readily accessible.
2. A badge carrier for insertion in a garment pocket having an upper buttonhole and a button sewed to the garment, said carrier comprising an elongated rectangular body member for insertion in said pocket, an end flap on said member for attachment of the badge thereto and foldable on said end over the edge of the pocket to hang pendent on the outside of said pocket, said body member and flap having a substantially diamondshaped aperture in the longitudinal center thereof centered in the fold of the flap and through which the button stitches extend and which straddles the button to render the same readily accessible, said member and flap comprising a single piece of flexible material, and said body member including layers of such material stitched together.
