Description
Feb. 10, 1942. BRODY E-rAL 2,272,830
SANITARY TEMPORARY PANTY Filed June 8, 1940 INVE TORS gfco aroiy ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 10, 1942 unirao STATES rare @FFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sanitary temporary panties.
The invention proposes the construction of sanitary temporary panties preferably made from sanitary paper and adapted to be worn by women when trying on bathing suits, underwear or other similar garments.
More specifically, the invention proposes to characterize the panty by a strip of sanitary sheet material having a central reduced section for engaging the crotch of a wearer, and end sections for extending up the front and back of the wearer to the waist, and means for securing said panties in position.
Still further the invention proposes that said sanitary sheet material comprise water proofed paper.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of simple and efficient means for securing the panties in position. Particularly, it is proposed that a waist strap be provided for this purpose. It is proposed that the waist strap be formed of several separate sections of material capable of being tied or connected together.
In another form of the invention means is proposed movably mounted on adjacent strap sections for releasably holding adjacent points together to facilitate engagement of the panty on a person.
For further comprehension of the invention,
and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the 'various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
, In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:

Fig. 8 is a front elevational view of a pair of sanitary temporary panties constructed according to another form of this invention.
Fig. 9 is a plan View of Fig. 8.
Fig. 10 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a still further modified form of the invention.
The sanitary temporary panties, in accordance with this invention, includes a strip of sanitary sheet material It), preferably of water proof paper, and having a central reduced section If for engaging the crotch of a wearer, and end sections W for extending up the front and back of the wearer to the waist. Means is provided for securing the panties in position. This means comprises a strap H mounted on each end section lt for engaging about the waist.
Each strap II comprises a strip of material which is bent along its longitudinal center H so that there are side portions or layers, and these side portions are extended along the edge portions of the end section 10 A longitudinal line of stitches I2 is engaged through the layers of the strap I i and the end section Ni for securing the strap in position.
It is proposed that these temporary panties be soldto stores selling bathing suits, underwear, and the like. When women desire to try on such garments the sales person supplies the customer with one of the sanitary panties. After it is donned the customer tries on the garment. Thereafter the sanitary panties are destroyed.
The straps I l permit the panties to be engaged on women of different sizes. It is necessary that adjacent ends of the straps ll be first tied together at approximately correct positions to fit a particular waist size. Then the panties are engaged on the person and the other ends of the straps i I are tied together. This is illustrated in Fig. 1.
In Figs. 4 and 5 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form merely in the manner in which the strap H is secured upon the end section [0 of the sanitary sheet material ID. The strap H is bent along its longitudinal center H so that the side portions or layers engage over the edges of the end Ni Then the layers are secured to the end section ID by adhesive material l2. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form.
In Figs. 6 and '7 still another form of the invention is disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in the provision of means movably mounted on adjacent strap sections H for releasably holding adjacent points together to adapt the waist strap to waists of different sizes. More particularly, this means includes a ring member l4 through which the adjacent ends of the strap sections H are engaged. The ring member M has inwardly stamped prongs I l which bear against the strap sections l I for frictionally holding the same. One side I l of the ring member [4 is slit open and the material to the sides of the slit are flared outwards, indicated by reference numerals HP, to facilitate engaging the strap sections ll through the ring member I 4. It is merely necessary that the strap sections be forced upwards in between the outwardly flared ends M".
When donning this temporary panty the wearer steps across the sheet material It) so that the central section ill engages the crotch; then holds the free ends of the straps Ii with one hand, and with the other hand slips the ring M along the length of the ends of the straps H until the ring I4 reaches an approximate correct position. Then the free ends of the straps l l are tied together, and thus the panties are secured in position on the wearer.
In Figs. 8 and 9 another form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior forms in the fact that the panties are provided with an elastic band l5 mounted along the top edges of the end sections Ni This elastic band is formed from a strip of elastic material which has its ends (5 stitched together. The panties are engaged on a person by stepping through the band I5 so that the crotch section I I is in proper position at the crotch.
In Fig. 10, an elastic strip I6 is shown to be inserted in a pocket I! formed by the folded edge portion 18 of the sanitary sheet material ID. The edge portion [8 is secured to the sheet material H) .by adhesive l9, or by any other means.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a sanitary temporary panty of waterproofed paper having separate strap sections adapted to be engaged about ones waist and tied at the sides of ones body for supporting said panties, means temporarily connecting together adjacent strap sections to one side of ones body while the strap sections on the other side of ones body are being tied to assist in positioning the panties on ones body, comprising a ring engageable upon the strap sections to one side of ones body, and means on said ring frictionally maintaining said ring in various shifted positions along the length of said strap sections, comprising resilient prongs stamped from opposite sides of said ring and engaging opposite sides of said strap sections.
2. In a sanitary temporary panty waterproofed paper having separate strap sections adapted to be engaged about ones waist and tied at the sides of ones body for supporting said panties, means temporarily connecting together adjacent strap sections to one side of ones body while the strap sections on the other side of ones body are being tied to assist in positioning the panties on ones body, comprising a ring engageable upon the strap sections to one side of ones body, and means on said ring frictionally maintaining said ring in various shifted positions along the length of said strap sections. said ring having an open side with outwardly flared end portions through which said strap sections may be threaded.
