Description

p 7, 1937. F. INTERRANTE 2,092,578
HAIR CURLER Filed Nov. 8, 1935 l N VEN TO R frank inle'rrarziz ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 7, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hair curlers.
The invention has for an object the construction of a device as mentioned which is character- 5 ized by a flexible hair retaining sheet for attachment at an inner portion on a transverse pliable holding strip and associated with a coacting flexible hair retaining sheet and pliable elements on the outer ends of said sheets.
More particularly the invention proposes a novel construction and arrangement of the retaining sheets and the pliable elements.
One object of the invention is one in which the retaining sheets are separate and connected along edge portions thereof.
Still further the invention proposes the construction of devices as mentioned which are simple and durable and which may be manufactured at reasonable costs.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of the invention;--
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a hair curler constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a hair curler constructed according to another embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
The form of the invention shown in Fig. 1 comprises a flexible hair retaining sheet ID for attachment on a transverse pliable holding strip II. A co-acting flexible hair retaining sheet I2 is connected with said sheet ID.
The sheet ID has its top portion l bent around the strip l l and secured in fixed position by a I line of stitches [4. The lower end of the sheet 45 I0 is formed with the tubular portion I5 in which the flexible wire I3 is housed. The sheet I2 is connected with the sheet Ill by two areas of stitches I! along the sides thereof at the free ends 7 of the sheets. The lower end of the co-acting re- 50 taining sheet 12* has a tubular portion l5 in which the pliable wire I3 is housed.
This curler is used by inserting a lock of hair in the space between the pliable elements l3, then the sheet I2 is held against the hair and the strip I I is wound so as to wind the sheets and the hair into a curl. The hair is engaged into the curler with the tubular portion I5 toward the scalp, and the strip H acts as a roller to wind the sheets and the hair into a curl.
In Figs. 3 and 4 a modified form of the invention is shown in which the co-acting pliable sheet [2 is in the form of a very narrow strip which is attached at its ends by strip l8 to the lower edge of the sheet 10. In other respects this form of the invention is identical to the previous forms and corresponding parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals. The operation of this form of the device is similar to the operation of the form described in relation to the form illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is;-
1. A hair curler, comprising a flexible hair retaining sheet, a transverse pliable holding strip attached to the inner portion of said hair retaining sheet, a co-acting flexible hair retaining sheet super-imposed on said sheet, pliable elements on the outer ends of said sheet, stitches holding said sheets together near said pliable elements so that said sheets are open at their outer ends and partially open at their sides, whereby hair may be placed in between said pliable elements and between said sheets and said sheets rolled to form a curl and before and during rolling said hair may be correctly placed by engaging ones finger through said open sides.
2. A hair curler, comprising a flexible hair retaining sheet, a transverse pliable holding strip attached to the inner portion of said hair retaining sheet, a co-acting flexible hair retaining sheet superimposed on said sheet, pliable elements on the outer ends of said sheet, holding means for holding said sheets together near said pliable elements so that said sheets are open at their outer ends and partially open at their sides, whereby hair may be placed in between said pliable elements and between said sheets and said sheets rolled to form a curl and before and during rolling said hair may be correctly placed by engaging ones finger through said open sides.
3. A hair curler, comprising a flexible hair retaining sheet, a transverse pliable holding strip attached to the inner portion of said hair retaining sheet, a co-acting flexible hair retaining sheet superimposed on said sheet, holding means for holding said sheets together near the outer ends of said sheets so that the said sheets are open at their outer ends and partially open at their sides, whereby hair may be placed in between them and said sheets rolled to form a curl and before and during rolling said hair may be correctly placed by engaging ones finger through said open sides.
