  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • Referring initially to FIGS. 1-3 of the drawings, a conventional corrugated core twinwall panel 1 (hereinafter called corrugated core panel) of selected size and typically having a selected advertising or notification indicia 6 a on the front panel 2 and optionally, on the rear panel 3 (FIG. 1) is provided. The corrugated core panel 1 is characterized by a corrugated center 4 having an exposed corrugation configuration along the top and bottom edges thereof and sandwiched between the front panel 2 and the rear panel 3. The corrugated center 4, front panel 2 and rear panel 3, at both the top and bottom edges, define multiple, adjacent corrugated center openings 5 therein, as illustrated in FIG. 1. The corrugated core panel 1 is further characterized by opposite panel edges 6 which typically do not exhibit the corrugated center openings 5, as further illustrated in FIG. 1.
  • As further illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 of the drawings, a multiple peg ornament mount 17 is mounted on the top edge of the corrugated core panel 1 at the corrugated center 4, wherein each of three, spaced-apart pegs 13 are inserted in selected ones of the corrugated center openings 5 in the corrugated center 4, to removably secure the multiple peg ornament mount 17 on the top edge of the corrugated core panel 1, as illustrated in FIG. 1. Each of the pegs 13 extend downwardly from a peg mount 18 which is, in turn, fitted with upward-standing, straight and curved, thin, typically transparent and/or tinted ornament stems 8, as further illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2. The ornament stems 8 are typically flexible and of selected length, color and shape as further illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, for receiving the respective star ornaments 7. The star ornaments 7 are illustrative of the ornaments which can be stapled, glued, taped or otherwise attached to the respective ornament stems 8 and may be typically characterized by thin, “Mylar” (trademark) plastic, in non-exclusive particular. Accordingly, it will be appreciated from a consideration of FIG. 1 of the drawings that the star ornaments 7 and the ornament stems 8 may freely wave in the wind and shimmer in the sunlight to attract attention to the panel indicia 6 a provided on the front panel 2 and optionally, on the rear panel 3, of the corrugated core panel 1. In addition to, or in lieu of the star ornaments 7, other ornaments and decorative items of various selected shapes, sizes, colors and degree of flexibility may be used on the respective ornament mounts, according to the knowledge of those skilled in the art. Furthermore, it will be understood that the ornament stems 8 can be characterized by a desired degree of flexibility and may even be stiff, if desired, depending upon the particular application desired in displaying the star ornaments 7 or the like, on the multiple peg ornament mount 17.
  • As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 3 of the drawings, a pair of single peg ornament mounts 12 are fitted to the opposite top corners of the corrugated core panel 1 and are each characterized by a peg 13 which typically extends from one end of a short peg mount 18. An ornament mount leg 19 typically extends from or near the opposite end of the peg mount 18 and also typically lies along at least a portion of the length of the respective panel edges 6 of the corrugated core panel 1, for receiving ornament stems 8 in any desired number, character and degree of orientation thereon. Accordingly, in the example illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 3, a star ornament 7 may typically be attached to the top and bottom ornament stem 8 extending from the ornament mount leg 19 and the peg 13 of each single peg ornament mount 12 inserted in a selected one of the corrugated center openings 5 to removably, or fixedly glue or otherwise secure each of the single peg ornament mounts 12 on the corrugated core panel 1 at the respective top corners thereof. As in the case of the multiple peg ornament mount 17, it will be appreciated that any number of star ornaments 7 can be attached to a like number of typically flexible and transparent, curved or straight ornament stems 8 extending from selected points on each ornament mount leg 19 of the two single peg ornament mounts 12, as desired. Furthermore, as noted above, the star ornament 7 is only exemplary of those ornaments which may be utilized in the single peg ornament mounts 12 and may be typically characterized by a “Mylar” (Trademark) plastic structure of selected shape, size, design and color, according to the designers choice in highlighting the panel indicia 6 a on the front panel 2 and, if deemed necessary, on the rear panel 3 of the corrugated core panel 1.
  • Referring now to FIGS. 4-6 of the drawings, in another embodiment the corrugated core panel 1 is characterized by a front panel 2 and a rear panel 3, with a corrugated center 4 and also typically provided with panel indicia 6 a on at least the front panel 2, as illustrated in FIG. 4. A check mark ornament 10 is affixed to a pair of single-bend ornament stems 14 (FIG. 5), attached to the peg mount 18 of a check mark ornament mount 11, mounted on the top corrugated center 4 edge of the corrugated core panel 1 by two spaced-apart pegs 13. The pegs 13 are downwardly-extending from the peg mount 18 at any desired spacing, for insertion in selected ones of the corrugated center openings 5 of the corrugated center 4, as further illustrated in FIG. 4. The check mark ornament 10 is typically attached by means of staples, glue or tape to the downturned ends of the flexible, single bend ornament stems 14, as further illustrated in FIG. 5, to facilitate vibration and shimmering of the check mark ornament 10 in the wind for attracting attention to the panel indicia 6 a located on the front panel 2 of the corrugated core panel 1. Alternatively, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the single bend ornament stems 14 (FIG. 5) may be selectively rigid to facilitate less movement of the check mark ornament 10, under circumstances where relative fixation of the check mark ornament 10 with respect to the corrugated core panel 1 is desired in highlighting the panel indicia 6 a.
  • Referring again to FIGS. 4 and 6 of the drawings, a multiple peg ornament mount 17 is attached to each upper corner of the corrugated core panel 1 at the corresponding corrugated center 4 in selected corrugated center openings 5. In this mount design each of the multiple peg ornament mounts 17 is characterized by a pair of downwardly-extending, spaced-apart pegs 13 that engage respective spaced-apart corrugated center openings 5 in the corrugated center 4 along the top edge of the corrugated core panel 1, as illustrated in FIG. 4. Furthermore, an ornament mount leg 19 is typically downwardly-extending from or near one end of the peg mount 18 and typically extends along at least a portion of the respective panel edges 6 of the corrugated core panel 1. Flexible or rigid ornament stems 8 extend upwardly from the peg mount 18 and downwardly from the ornament mount leg 19, typically, but only by way of illustration, in the configuration and number illustrated in FIG. 6, to facilitate attachment of an ornament such as a star ornament 7, typically to the extending ends thereof. As in the case of the ornament stems 8 described above, the ornament stems 8 in the multiple peg ornament mounts 17 may be applied to or shaped integrally with the peg mount 18 and/or the ornament mount leg 19 by any technique known to those skilled in the art and in any desired number and are typically flexible, transparent, tinted, curved or straight and easily moved by the wind, along with the corresponding star ornament 7 or alternative ornament attached to the end thereof. This design facilitates waving and shimmering of the ornaments and calls attention to the panel indicia 6 a on at least the front panel 2 of the corrugated core panel 1, as further illustrated in FIG. 4.
  • Referring now to FIGS. 7-11 of the drawings, in another embodiment of the invention a twin stem ornament mount 16 is fitted to the top corrugated center 4 of the corrugated core panel 1, which has a front panel 2 and a rear panel 3 and is constructed in the same manner as the corrugated core panel 1 illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 4. As further illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 10, the twin stem ornament mount 16 is characterized by a peg 13, from which a pair of ornament stems 8 extend, typically in an outwardly-curved configuration, as illustrated. However, it will be understood that the ornament stems 8 provided on the twin stem ornament mounts 16 can be extended from the peg 13 in any desired number, configuration, length, orientation and stiffness and may also be of any desired thickness, color and character, including transparent and thin, for waving in the wind and shimmering in the sunlight to call attention to the panel indicia 6 a on the front panel 2 when a star ornament 7 or alternative decoration or ornament is attached to the extending ends of the respective ornament stems 8. It will be further appreciated by those skilled in the art that the peg 13 can be removably or fixedly inserted in any selected one of the corrugated center openings 5 located in the corrugated center 4 along the top edge of the corrugated core panel 1, as desired.
  • As further illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 11 of the drawings, a single stem ornament mount 21 is provided with a peg 13 and a single, upward-standing ornament stem 8 of desired length, thickness and tint and/or transparency, should such transparency be desired, for receiving a star ornament 7 or another ornament or decoration as illustrated in FIG. 7. The ornament stem 8 may be flexible to receive a typically “Mylar” star ornament 7 or the like, for wind-induced movement to further call attention to the panel indicia 6 a on the front panel 2. It will be appreciated that one or more additional ornament stems 8 may be provided on the respective pegs 13 of the twin stem ornament mount 16 and the single stem ornament mount 21 to create the desired ornamentation.
  • A multiple leg corner mount 23 is attached to one top corner of the corrugated core panel 1 and as illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 8, typically includes a peg mount 18 having a pair of downwardly-extending, spaced-apart pegs 13 for insertion in corresponding selected corrugated center openings 5 in the top edge corrugated center 4 of the corrugated core panel 1. Three ornament mount legs 19 are also downwardly-extending in spaced-apart relationship with respect to each other from or near the opposite end of the peg mount 18 for receiving multiple star ornaments 7 or alternative ornaments or decorations, typically by means of gluing, stapling or taping, in non-exclusive particular, for display as illustrated in FIG. 7. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the peg mount 18 may be of any desired length, the pegs 13 of any desired spacing and location on the peg mount 18 and the ornament mount legs 19 may be of any desired number and spacing, and may be parallel to each other or skewed, three of such mount legs 19 being typical, but not exclusive, for receiving the respective star ornaments 7. Furthermore, the ornament mount legs 19 may be of any desired length, either the same or not, corresponding to the height of the corrugated core panel 1 or more or less than that height, depending upon the desires of the decorator. Moreover, the length, number and orientation of the ornament mount legs 19 may be determined by the height of the corrugated core panel 1 above the ground, as the corrugated core panel 1 may be typically mounted on a wire frame (not illustrated) or otherwise supported at a selected distance above the ground.
  • A multiple peg corner mount 22 is attached to the opposite top corner of the corrugated core panel 1 from the multiple mount leg corner mount 23, by means of a pair of downwardly-extending, spaced-apart pegs 13 projecting from a peg mount 18 of selected length. An ornament mount leg 19 extends, typically from or near the opposite end of the peg mount 18, from the pegs 13 and may include typically staggered ornament attachment stubs 20, projecting in opposite directions therefrom as an example, for receiving various ornaments such as the star ornaments 7, which may be stapled, glued, taped or otherwise attached to the respective ornament attachment stubs 20, as desired. As in the case of the multiple mount leg corner mount 23, the ornament mount leg 19 in the multiple peg corner mount 22 can be of any desired length and orientation with respect to the peg mount 18 and may have any desired number of ornament attachment stubs 20 projecting therefrom in a selected direction or directions, spacing and orientation, depending upon the number and pattern of star ornaments 7 or alternative ornaments or decorations to be attached to the ornament attachment stubs 20, as desired.
  • Referring now to FIG. 12 of the drawings, in another embodiment of the invention the corrugated core panel 1 is likewise characterized by a front panel 2, a rear panel 3 and a sandwiched corrugated center 4. Inlay ornament patterns 25 of selected shape are provided in the corrugated core panel 1 and extend through the front panel 2, the rear panel 3 and the corrugated center 4 to facilitate insertion of the peg 13 element of a single stem ornament mount 21 in a selected corrugated center opening 5, located inside each inlay ornament pattern 25, as illustrated in FIG. 12. The inlay ornament patterns 25 are each illustrated as configured in the shape of a star ornament 7 by way of example, to facilitate display of each of the star ornaments 7 in the inlay ornament patterns 25, respectively, by insertion of the peg 13 in a respective corrugated center opening 5. Accordingly, it will be appreciated that the star ornament 7 can be typically, but not necessarily, constructed of a very thin plastic material such as “Mylar” plastic or the like, and can have any desired configuration, the star-shaped configuration illustrated in FIG. 12 being illustrative only. Accordingly, the star ornaments 7 or alternative ornaments correspondingly provided in the shaped inlay ornament patterns 25, can be made to flutter and shimmer or may be selectively fixed in configuration, depending upon the desires of the decorator regarding attention to be called to the underlying panel indicia 6 a on the front panel 2.
  • Referring to FIGS. 13 and 14 of the drawings, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the corrugated core panel 1 illustrated in FIGS. 1, 4, 7 and 12 can be rotated 90-degrees and shaped in a desired configuration and size to also define a corrugated center 4 sandwiched between a front panel 2 and a rear panel 3. The corrugated center openings 5 of the corrugated center 4 are then located on the opposite side or vertical panel edges of the corrugated core panel 1 instead of the top and bottom edges thereof. In such a configuration, an ornament mount such as the multiple peg ornament mount 17 may be quickly and easily mounted on the now-vertical corrugated center 4, as illustrated in FIG. 13. As in the case of the ornament mounts described above, the multiple peg ornament mount 17 is characterized by a peg mount 18 having three, spaced-apart pegs 13 extending therefrom for insertion in corresponding ones of the corrugated center openings 5 in the corrugated center 4, as illustrated in FIG. 14. Furthermore, the respective ornament stems 8 extending from the peg mount 18 may be of any selected number, shape, flexibility, resiliency, transparency and/or tint or color and thickness to facilitate mounting of the star ornaments 7 or alternative decorations or ornaments of selected resiliency and thickness thereon and allowing a selected degree of movement of the star ornaments 7 or alternative ornaments with respect to the corrugated core panel 1. It will be further appreciated that any of the heretofore described ornament mounts, in addition to the illustrated multiple peg ornament mount 17, may be likewise attached to the corrugated center 4 of the corrugated core panel 1 on both vertical edges, as desired and as described above.
  • Referring now to FIGS. 15 and 16 of the drawings, a pair of T-stem ornament mounts 26 are illustrated and are each characterized by a single peg 13, fitted with a typically flexible double bend ornament stem 15 extending from the top of the peg 13, as illustrated. The T-stem ornament mounts 26 are secured to a corrugated core panel 1 at the corrugated center 4 by insertion of the peg 13 in a selected one of the corrugated center openings 5, in the manner described above. Accordingly, the downturned ends of the double bend ornament stem 15 can be provided with star ornaments 7 or other ornaments, typically using staples, tape or glue as described above with respect to the various ornament mounts and as particularly illustrated in FIG. 16. Furthermore, the peg 13 of an L-shaped stem ornament mount 27 is also provided with a single bend (typically flexible) ornament stem 14 extending from the top of a peg 13, shaped for insertion in one of the corrugated center openings 5 of the corrugated center 4, as further illustrated in FIGS. 15 and 17. A star ornament 7 or alternative decoration or ornament may be stapled, glued, taped or otherwise attached to the downwardly-extending end of the single bend ornament stem 14, in the same manner as described above with respect to the T-stem ornament mount 26 illustrated in FIG. 16.
  • It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the respective ornament mounts of this invention, including the pegs, peg mounts, ornament mount legs and ornament stems, can be constructed, typically by injection-molded plastic techniques, in any desired shape, color and size, depending upon the desired number and size of the ornament stems 8, single bend ornament stems 14, double bend ornament stems 15 and star ornaments 7 or the alternative selected ornaments and decorations to be utilized (not illustrated). Each of the ornament mounts is characterized by one or more pegs 13 which are sized and shaped to typically insert in a friction-fit in the respective corrugated center openings 5 of the corrugated center 4 of a corrugated core panel 1, regardless of whether the corrugated core panel 1 is oriented with the corrugated center 4 along the top and bottom edges or along the right and left vertical sides or edges thereof. Moreover, the ornaments which are attached to respective ornament stems may be of any desired shape, size, color, thickness, resiliency and character to facilitate movement in the wind, fixation with respect to the corrugated core panel 1, or shimmering in the sunlight or in the light of a rotating color lamp or the like, depending upon the decorator's desires.
  • While the preferred embodiments of the invention have been described above, it will be recognized and understood that various modifications may be made in the invention and the appended claims are intended to cover all such modifications which may fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
