IMPROVEMENT IN SHOW-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 93,366, dated July 24, 1877; application filed June 15, 1877.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNHARD DREYFUS, of the city and State of New York, have invented a new and improved form of box for the better and more convenient display of' the goods contained therein, which improvement is fully set' forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view of the box when closed. Fig. 2 is a side view of the box when open for the display of its contents; and Fig. 3 is a view of the interior of the cover.
The object of my invention is to have a box which, when closed, has the ordinary rectangular form, that being the most convenient form for packing and transporting, but which,
when opened, displays its contents at an angle. f
This result is effected in my invention by cutting the box proper, which is represented in the drawing by the letter A, so as to slope downward, so as to be shallower in front than behind. Two little supports (best shown in Fig. 3 of-the drawing, andmarked a. a) in the front corners ofthe cover compensate for the amount cut away from the box in front, so
that when closed it still has a rectangular shape, as represented in Eig. 1 of the drawlng.
For the purpose of displaying its contents the box A is simply placed in the cover B, with its deeper rear portion resting on the supports c, thereby tilting the box up and exhibiting the goods at a corresponding angle, as represented in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
I claim as my invention.-
A show-box, whose top portion is gradually inclined from front to rear, in combination with a cover similarly inclined, and provided with two stops or cleats arranged in its forward or front ends to support the box in an inclined position, when used as a support for the box, and rendering the whole structure rectangular in shape when used as a cover proper, substantially as shown and described in the papers ot' my said application, andthe drawn gs that accompanied the same.
