Description
Oct. 11, 1932. E. c. KASTNER CLIP Filed June 12, 1931 "Patented Oct. 11, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ERNEST C. KASTNER, F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR T0 EASTERN TOOL 8c MFG. (30., 0F BLOOMFIELD, NEW JERSEY CLIP ' Application filed June 12,
This invention relates to an improved clip particularly adapted for use on slides by means of which the length of straps on garments are adjusted and held. The clip is designed to be secured on the end of the strap and to be fastened to the strap by simply compressing the clip on the strap by a suitable press.
The advantage of the slide is its simplicity and economy and also its adaptability for quick and easy installation. It is usually supplied by the manufacturer as part of the slide being held thereon by its own resiliency and then later placed in a press to secure the strap thereto at the place of garment manufacture.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a front vlew of agarment slide equipped with my improved clip and with a strap in place. Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 in Figure 1. Figure 3 is a section of the clip alone. Figure 4 is a bottom view of the clip. Figure 5 is a front View of amodified form of clip. Figure 6' is a section taken vertically through Figure 5 and Figure7 is a section on line 7-7 in Figure 5.
The strap 10 is threaded through any conventional form of slide 11 and depends in a loop 12 for suspending a button loop or the like and then secured by its end to the slide. The end of the strap is fastened by a clip 13 which is a piece of sheet metal cut over to form an open loop 14 which is close enough to hold the clip on the strand 15 of. the slide but open far enough to allow the clip to be snapped overthe strand. The metal forms two walls 16 and 17, one of which 16, is perforated as at 18. A strip is punched out to provide the projection 19. The strap is then fed into the space 20 and then the assembled parts are punched or compressed as in Figure 2. The compressing forces the strap into a sharply turned or bent part 21 which bends on the edges of the perforation 18 and the projection 19 and is thus held securely against withdrawal.
In Figures 5, 6, and 7 I show a modification with a series of perforations 22 in the wall 16 and projection 23 onthe wall 17. The com- 1931. Serial No. 543,880.
pressing of the parts forces the material of the strap into the sharply turned part 24: bound by the edges of the perforations and projections. The projections 19 and 23 are looped and extend laterally of the clip to present broad faces to force the strap into bent form into the recesses opposite the loops. This prevents damaging the strap as there is no perforation of the surface of the strap and the strap is in no sense weakened when it is secured in the clip.
This clip is easily and cheaply made and especially easy to install.
I claim 1. A clip for garment slides and the like comprising a sheet of metal bent to form opposed walls to receive a strap between them, one of said walls having an integral portion projecting toward the other wall, said portion extending laterally relative to the insert- I ed strap, and disposed to force the strap with in said portion into a sharply bent portion when the clip is compressed.
2. A clip for garment slides comprising a sheet of metal bent into a return bend and opposed walls,'a looped part struck up from one wall toward the other thereby forming an opening opposite said part and being spaced from the wall to receive a strap, whereby the compression of the clip forces the strap into a sharply bent part between the looped part and the edges of the opening.
3. A clip for garment slides comprising a sheet of metal bent to form opposed walls, the walls having a projection struck up from one wall toward the other, the clip having an opening complementary to the projection, the projection and the opening having a long dimension laterally relative to the walls whereby an inserted strap is bent by the projection into the recess without perforating the surface of the strap.
In testimony whereof he affixes his signature.
ERNEST C. KASTNER.
