CONTAINER Filed March 22, 1930 INVENTOR Nom /s 50K OFF l/M QM ATTORNEY Patented June 14, 1932 UNITED STATES MORRIS SUKOFF, OF BROOKLYN, NEW-YORK CONTAINER Application filed March 22, 1930. Serial No. 438,103.
This invention relates to a container.
The object of the invention is the production of a container having a cover hinged thereto, and which latter can be maintained in 6 difierent angular positions. The second object of the invention is the production of a container having a cover hinged thereto, and having frictional means interposed between the body of the container and said cover to maintain said cover in various angular positions. The third object of the invention is the production of a container with a cover hinged thereto and frictional means interposed between the body portion of the container and its cover, spaced from the interior and outer surfaces of the container to maintain said cover in different angular positions.
The fourth object of the invention is the production of a container with a cover hinged thereto adapted to contain cigars or other objects and provided with means to maintain said cover in various inclined positions, to display said cigars or other objects contained in the container and spaced from the contents of the container.
In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of an exemplification of the improved container with its cover in its open position; Fig. 2 shows an enlarged section of Fig. l on the line 2, 2; Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 2 on the line 3, 3 and Fig. 4 indicates a section of Fig. 2 on the line 4, 4.
The container comprises the body portion consisting of the front wall 20, the rear wall 21, bottom wall 22 and the side walls 24. A neck is inserted in the said body portion and comprises the front wall 28, the rear wall 29 and the side walls 30. The walls 20 and 21 of the body portion of the container are respectively fastened to the walls 28 and 29 of the neck. The cover of the container comprises the front wall 32, the rear wall 33, the top wall 34 and the side walls 35. The cover is hinged to the body portion of the container in the usual way by means of the covering 36 which, at the portion 37 constitutes a hinge. The other walls of the body portion of the container and cover are also provided with a similar covering, not shown.
The cover of the container and the neck and the head 43 with its curved crown 44. i
The parallel members 41 form the'guide slot 45 between them. The heads 43 of the adjusting links are pivoted to the inner faces of the side walls 35 of the cover by means of the eyelets 46. Eyelets 48 extend through the side walls 30 of the neck, and the body of said eyelets 48 extend through the guide slots 45 of said links with their heads 49 bearing against said links. This disposition of the links locates them between the side walls as 30 of the neck and the side walls 24 of the body portion of the container and said links are in frictional engagement with said side walls 30 of said neck. The links by their 7 disposition are protected from injury and the contents of the container is spaced from said links and also protected from injury. The frictional engagement of the links 40 with the walls 30, provides a simple means for maintaining the cover of the container in different angular positions to be enabled to display the contents of the container.
It will be noted that the walls 20 and 21 of the body portion of the container are respectively fastened to the walls 28 and 29 of the neck by an adhesive, but preferably no adhesive is used between the side walls 24 of the body portion of the container and the side walls 30 of the neck. The space between each wall 24 and its adjacent wall 30 is just sufiicient to enable the head 49 of the eyelet to move therein.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1s:
1. In a container the combination of a body portion, a neck inserted in said body portion,
a cover hinged to said body portion, a pair of adjusting links interposed between said cover and said body portion, said links having each a guide slot formed therein, eyelets connecting the upper ends of said links and said cover, the other end of each link located between a wall of the neck and wall of the body portion and in frictional engagement with the said wall of the neck and eyelets extending from said neck and extending through the guide slots of said links.
2. In a container the combination of a body portion, comprising a front wall, a rear wall, a bottom wall and side walls, a neck inserted in said body portion, said neck comprising a front wall, a rear wall and side walls, the front and rear walls of the neck fastened to the front and rear walls of said body portion, the side walls of the neck adjacent to the side walls of the body portion devoid of fastening means between them, a cover hinged to said body portion, said cover comprising a front wall, a rear wall, a top wall and side walls, a pair of adjusting links interposed between said cover and body portion, said links having their upper ends respectively pivoted to the side walls of the cover and the other end of each located between a side wall of the body portion of the container and a side wall of the neck, disposed to be in frictional engagement with the said walls of the neck, each of said links having a guide slot and an eyelet extending through each of the side walls of the neck and the guide slot of the adjacent link.
Signed at the borough of Brooklyn, city of New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, this 11th day of March, A. D.
