Description

TELEPHONE CALL LI ST Filed June 17, 1930 gmchtoz )ffl/,bm Grcja/y ffmaucun Patented Nov. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES WILLIAM A. GREGORY, OF SALT LAIE CITY, UTAH TELEPHONE CALL LIST Application led June 17,
which list will cover the name after the call` has been made so that there will never be duplication of calls.
A further object is to provide a telephone list which will be economical to construct, easy to operate and which will be positive in operation, so that duplication will be elim inated and so that the caller can turn to any desired name although it has been called and covered.
A still further object is to provide a calling list in combination with a scratch pad so that notes can be made under the list and the notes covered, or so that the list can be used for two sets of names and the names covered after a pair of names have been called.
These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specication forming a part of this application and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings in which I have shown the best and most preferred manner of building my invention Figure 1 is a plan view showing part of the names called and the names turned, and others not called and not turned. Figure 2 is a side elevation of Figure 1. Figure 8 is a section on' line 3-3 ot' Figure l. Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 1. Figure 5 is an enlarged lower end view of the device. Figure 6 is a face view of an enlarged number and name holding bracket. Figure 7 is an end View of Figure 6.
In the dra-wings I have shown the base on which my device is mounted as A, having a semi-circular portion formed on the top end thereof with a hole 1 centrally therethrough by which the ent-ire device may be hung on a nail or hook. Centrally down the board A, I provide a shaft 2 supported by spaced 1930. Serial No. 461,702.
apart bearings 3, 4iand 5, spacing the shaft a short distance from the board. On the face of the board I secure a sheet ot Celluloid 6 or other suitable material on which notes may be made with a pencil and which notes may then be erased therefrom without marring the surface of the material.
Threaded onto the shaft 2, I then secure my name plate brackets 7. The said brackets 7 are made of a sheet of metal having the sides S and 9 thereof bent back upon themselves at 10 to form a groove 11 in which asheet of paper 12 may be inserted. One end 13 of the bracket 7 is bent around to form a bearing 14 which bearing encirclesthe shaft 2. 'I he sides 8 and 9 are also bent down onto the back side of the bracket and encircle the shaft 2 giving strength to the bearing end of the bracket and also making the bracket so that when a sheet of paper is inserted therein that it can only go so far into the bracket until it hits the bent portion of the sides which stop it from going on around the curve of the bearing. The free end 15 of the bracket 7 is cut narrower than the sides and is bent into a circle which raises the bracket from the board and provides an easier medium to engage when turning the 1prackets over after having called one of the The bearings 3, 4, and 5 are made by bendl A hole 20 is cut through the bracket 7 and the sheet of paper 12 which is inserted into the slot 11 has the name 21 and the phone number 22 printed or written on the front side thereof and has the name 23 or the name and initials only printed on the back side thereof in alignment with the hole 20 so that the user may. see what name is on the other side of the bracket without turning the bracket over.
The operation of the device is as follows The person calling turns the bracket all in the open position or to the left as shown in the drawings so that he can see the name and number. He calls the number and after finishing the call turns the bracket over to the right, covering both the name 21 and number 22 on the face, but when in the down aosition the name 23 then shows from the ack of the paper 12 through the slot or hole 2O so that if the caller should desire to again call a certain partly he may turn back the single bracket Without reversing all of his calls.
Notations may be made on the Celluloid if desired or a list of names and numbers may be placed on the Celluloid and the brackets used to cover the numbers with the hole through the bracket showing the name at all times.
It will be obvious that the Celluloid may be replaced by paper or other suitable materials and other modifications made in the manufacturing of the device without departing from the spirit of t-he invention or the scope of the claims.
I-Iaving thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1. In a. telephone list the combination of a base board; a shaft carried longitudinally therealong; spaced apart bearings formed of pieces of metal bent around the shaft and then back to cleat over the back side of said board, supporting said shaft on said board; brackets pivotally carried on said shaft, having a groove formed on each edge of said bracket to receive paper slips and a hole through the body of said bracket; slips having names printed on each side thereof, carried in said grooves, the one name to be visible from the rear and the other from the front when the bracket has been turned, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described the combination of a base board; a sheet of material secured on the face thereon on which notes or names may be placed; and brackets having openings therethrough secured to said board adapted to be pivoted thereto said brackets to cover said numbers but to leave said names open to view or to leave said names and numbers exposed as desired.
- -In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
WILLIAM A. GREGORY.
