The present invention relates to improvements in anti-thumb sucking devices and has for its principal object to provide a device which will discourage and positively prevent the harmful habit acquired by infants and small children of sucking the thumb or finger, and this without interfering in any way with the normal use of such thumb or finger.

Another important object of the invention is to provide an anti-thumb sucking device of the above mentioned character, that may be readily and easily applied or removed, the device being further simple 111 construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further Well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

Other objects of the invention will become apparent as the nature of the inven- 29 tion proceeds and when taken in connectlon with the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a perspective view on an exaggerated scale of the anti-thumb suck ng device embodying our invention showing the manner in which the same is attached on the thumb of a childs hand, and

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of our invention, the numerals 1 and 2 designate a pair of thumb encircling rings for disposition on oppositesides of the first joint of the thumb. These rings are preferably constructed of noncorrosive metal and 46 are light in weight and are furthermore formed of flat material. A coil spring 3 provides a means for connecting the spaced rings or hands 1 and 2 together, and this coil spring which also encircles the thumb will allow for the free movement or bending of the joints and thumb.

The invention further comprehends the provision of a wrist encircling band or brac let designated by the numeral 6, the free ends of this divided chain being connected together by the ring 7. In this manner, the dibe adjusted to fit properly on the wrist of the wearer.

A pair of elongated chains 8 are connected at their forward ends to the respective loops 4, the intermediate portions of these chains being connected to the loops 5 of the ring 2, while the rear ends of the chains 8 are fastened to. the wrist encircling chain 6 and the connecting ring '7 respectively.

W hen the device is attached on the thumb or linger in the manner as shown in Figure 1 and when the thumb or finger with the device inserted thereon is inserted into the mouth, the infant or small child will soon be broken of the harmful habit of sucking the thumb or finger because of the realization of the impossibility of satisfaction when the device is on the thumb or finger. The coil spring 8, however, will permit the free bending of the joint of the thumb or finger while the device is being worn and furthermore the device is so positioned on the hand as to prevent its accidental disengagement therefrom. It will also be seen that the annular members 1 and 2, serve to limit the longitudinal expansion of the coil spring 3 and the device may be lengthened by securing the member 2 at any desired point in the chain 8.

While we have shown the preferred embodiment of our invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.

We claim 1- In an anti-thumb sucking device, a pair of spaced annular members fordisposition on opposite sides of a thumb or finger joint, integral eyes disposed on diametrically opposite sides of the annular members, a coil spring of uniform diameter throughout extending between the annular members and having its opposite end portions securing tnereto 1n a manner to yield ably connect same together and permitting a free bending of the thumb or fingen'fiexible chain sections connected, at their opposite ends, With the eyes and constituting rneans for limiting the sep- 7 a'ration of the annular members; flexible chains connected to the eyes of the innermost annular member, a split Wrist encircling chain, a ring connecting the opposite ends of the Wrist encircling chain together, one of the 1 second named chains connected to the ring and the other of the'second named cha-insconnected to an intermediate portion of the Wrist encircling chain.
