Description

May 6, 1930. .l. c. GERROND 1,757,423
SWING Filed Aug. 20, 1927 gmmtoz Patented May 6, 1930 JAMES C. GERROND, F HUGO'JION, KANSAS SWING Application filed August 20, 1927.
The present invention is directed to improvements in swings for children.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character so constructed that it may be used in the usual manner or adjusted in order that the same can be revolved.
Another object of the invention is to provide a swing so constructed that it may be conveniently supported from a ceiling or door frame and the child strapped therein and held against falling when the swing is used as customary or is revolved.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the swing.
Figure 2 is a vertical, sectional view therethrough.
The swing includes a seat 1, sides 2 and a back 3, there being centrally arranged flanges 4 secured to the outer surfaces of the sides 2,
and are provided with headed studs 5.
The suspension means comprises a. cable 6, the side stretches 6 of which are held spaced by a cross rod 7 the intermediate portion of the cable being formed with a loop 8 which is connected in any suitable manner to the spring 9 which is suspended from a ceiling or door frame.
A pair of cable sections 10 are also employed and have their upper ends secured to the cable stretches 6 and are also held spaced by the rod 7. The lower ends of these cables are provided with bearings 11, similar bearings 12 being formed upon the lower ends of the stretches 6', and as shown in full lines in Figure 1, these hearings are engaged with the studs 5 in order that the swing can be revolved when desired.
Secured to the inner surfaces of the sides 2 are the branches 13 of the strap sections 14 and 15 which are connected by a buckle 16 in order that a child can be safely held in the swing as the same is revolved or swung in the customary manner. Handles 17 are secured to the sides in order that the child may grasp the same when the swing is in motion.
In addition to the studs 5 a pair of similarly mounted studs 18 are provided for the inner surfaces of the sides 2 in order that the bearings 11 and 12 may be engaged therewith, as
Serial No. 21 L355.
indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1, so that the swing may be used in the customary man ner.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a swing has been provided which is constructed in such manner that the same can be used in the customary manner, or the cables may be adjusted in order that the swing may be revolved.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A swing capable of being oscillated or retated, comprising a seat and sides, each side having a pair of studs extending from its inner face in spaced relation to each other transversely thereof and a single stud extending from the outer face of the side intermediate the pair of studs, pair of suspension cables extending along each side, and each being provided with a bearing, said bearings being adapted to be selectively engaged with the single stud to permit rotation of the swing. or with a stud of each pair to support the swing in a horizontal position and permit oscillation of the swing.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
