DISPLAY DEVICE.

Application filed November This invention, relating as indicated, to display devices, has more particular reference to display devices of ornamental character such as to be suitable for supports or mounts for line photographs, pictures, etc. Among the objects of the invention are the provision of a display device or mount which can he stood in self-supporting or easel-like position, and which can be locked or posilfi tively secured against accidental displacement trom such position. A further object is the provision of connecting means allowing the device to be set up in position of use or be collapsed fiat without requiring dieassembling. A still further object is the provision of a construction directed toward the elimination of sagging or distortion in shape on long continued standing. sists of the means hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims, the annexed drawing and the following de scription setting forth in detail ccrtain'features embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting, however, but several of various forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.

' As shown in the form of the invention illustrated in 1, etc, the device comprises members 1 and 2 adapted to be set up so as to stand in generally upwardly directed position, these being advantageously integrally joined as at- 3; and projecting from one of the members, ordinarily what would be the back or supporting member, is a connecting member l. Preferably a keeper or looking flap 10 is cut so as to be positionable against the tongue 6 in the slot when the device is in set-up relation and thus prevent further movement of the tongue in the slideway, so as to hold the parts in fixed relation. Advantageously, the device may be cut -from sheet stocln'tor instance card board of ornan'iental character suitable forfinemount. usage, the particular material of course being a matter of choice and in someinstances fiber or sheet metal may be employed. By arranging the cutting dies to suitable design, the blank may be cut and scored at one operation, the tongue 6 with its lugs 7 being cut at one end, a guideway 9 with the displaceable locking member 10 being out toward the opposite end portion, and the folds 3, 5 and 11 being also scored in.

l/Vhile a photo or the like can be directly secured by its four corners to the face member 1, I prefer generally an ornamental'tace panel 12 secured at one or more points by adhesive or other suitable means to the "face or front member 1, it being preferably provided with diagonal cuts 13 toward each cornor to receive the'photo. print or other article to be mounted.

In the form shown in Fig. 2, the face panel 14L is of a character to provide protecting flaps or shutters 15. Advantageously, a panel. of this type is cut from sheet stockandat the same time is scored as indicated at dotted lines 16 (Fig. 5 so that when secured to the face member 1, the shutters 15 can be folded back so as to expose a photo or other picture which may be mounted inside, or where desired such shutters can lee-laid down in closed or protecting position. In this manner, there is provided a mount which has the additional feature of face protecting means. a

The manner ofuse of my improved'mounts will be readily understood. The blank iorm in which the device is initially manufactured is assembled by folding along the dotted lines 3 and 5 (see Fig. 3) and the tongue 6 is inserted by a sli htly diagonal turn through the guideway 9, the flap 10 being turned back out of the Way for this purpose.

The tongue 6 is then slightly folded up so as to lie substantially parallel with the face member 1, and with the keeper or looking flap 10 slightly turned so as to be in an inactive position the tongue 6 may be slid back and forth in the slideway 9 for either the set-up position as in Fig. l or for the collapsed fiat position. When set up, the keeper or locking flap 10 is act against the tongue and thus prevents its further sliding movement and the device is then positively secured in its position of use as in Fig. 1. By the employn'ient of various panels such as shown in Figs. 4i and 5, photos or pictures to be mounted may be made up in various desired forms, and as sen, the lerice affords a display mount which is capable of being collapsed flat for shipping or handling, but which may be quickly set up into position of use, no further manipulation being required therefor than the mere sliding of the tongue 6 into its lower position and the setting of the locking flap thereagainst. in such position the device is well braced at the point of most needed support so that even with long continued standing, it is guarded against sagging. lVhile ordinarily after having once been assembled, the device may be used in set-up or in collapsed positions without being disasseinblcal, should occasion arise it may very readily be disassembled however, by slightly displacing the locking flap 10 so as to all'ow the tongue 6 to be turned diagonally sufficiently to be withdrawn from the guideway 9.

Other modes of applying the principle of my invention may be employed instead oi those explained, change being made as regards the features herein discl sed, provided the means stated by any of the following claims or the equivalents of such stated means be employed.

An article of the character described, which comprises two members adapted to stand in generally upwardly directed position and joined at the top, a connecting member adapted to extend from one of said members to present an engaging end movable within a path in a concealed slideway in the other member, whereby .vithout withdrawal thereof from the slideway, the said two members may be also collapsed together, and a locking flap engageable against said connecting member.

An article of the character described, which comprises front and. rear members adapted to stand in generally upwardly directed position and joined at the top, and a member adapted to extend from the base of the rear member to present an engaging end movable within a path in a slideway in an intermediate and upper zone of the front member, said connecting meml having lugs for normally preventing disengagement from such slideway, whereby without withdrawal thereof from the slideway, the said two members may be also collapsed together.

An article of the character described, which comprises front and rear members adapted to stand in generally upwardly directed position and joined at the top, a member adapted to extend from the base of the rear member to present an engaging end movable within a path in a slideway in an intermediate and upper Zone of the front member, said connecting member having lugs for normally preventing disengagement from such slideway, whereby without withdrawal thereof from the slideway, the said two members may be also collapsed togetlmr, and a locking flap extending from the upper end of the slideway to engage against said connecting member.
