BYRON FREDERICK RAIDT, AF SHENANDOAH, IOWA.
VISOR LIGHT.
Application ledNovember 3, 1926. SeriallNo. 146,040.
This invention relates to illumination devices of a type particularly applicable for use upon motor vehicles which combines the resultsA of a non-glare light and sun visor therefor.
The invention embodies among other characteristics a swinging support to permit focusing of the li ht and adjustment as to the visor formed t ereby.
More specifc'allystated the illuminating elements are carried by adjusting members to facilitate the focusing thereof.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention further consists in the following novel features and details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanyin drawings and pointed out in the appende claims.i
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective of a motor vehicle with the invention applied for use thereon.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the inven-l tion, as applied.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the invention. l
Figure 4 is a transverse section thereof.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional View illus-v` trating the relative association of the reflector and lens member.
Figure 6 is a longitudinal section taken through' the adjusting member.
Fi re 7 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the swinging support.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary side elevation of a modified form of supporting apparatus.
Figure'9 is a sectional view of a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates an elongated lam casing which from the side elevation in igure 2 of the drawing is preferabl parabolic in contour. A. reflector 11 of simi ar configuration is carried Within said casing. The periphery of said refiector provides an annular seat 12 upon which is supported a lens 13 retained thereon by a lens rim 14 having fastening elements 15 disposed at space intervals thereon and projecting through an outstanding annular flange 16 provided upon the outer surface of said reflector' and connected with nut members 17 arranged upon the .in-
ner faces thereof. An upwardly disposed or projecting portion 18 is formed upon the lower edge of said lens rim 14 and .adapted to form a gutter or drain for rain and water directed upon said lens member 13 and to carry said water .oii' to the sides of the vehicle thereby relieving the constant wiping of the vehicle windshield.
The illuminating means for the casing embodies tubular members 28 providing annular flange portions 29 upon the inner periphery thereof for attachment with the inner sides of the saidlamp casing while the remaining ends thereof are projected through said reflector 11. J ain-nuts 30 are carried upon the forward ends of said tubular members to retain and sustain said-re- Hector in position. A sleeve member 31 adapted for longitudinal sliding movement within said tubular members 28 rovide bayonet slot connection in their orward ends to support and carry lamp bulbs 32 thereon. i
The sleeve member 31 carries upon the inner end thereof an angle plate 32 receiving an adjusting screw 33, carried by the lamp casing l0, within the oset portion thereof whereby said lamp bulbs 32 may be focused within the reflector 11.
In open model vehicles the supporting plate 21 may be carried upon the up r rai ofthe uppermost section of the win shield.
In Figure 8 of the drawings I have illustrated a modified form of adjustin arms forv the identical form of lamp casing 10. As illustrated the particular form of supporting and adjusting arms 34 are of U- shaped configuration and carried upon brace members 35 supporting the extended giortion, or sun visor, of a vehicle top. he innermost arms 36 of the members 35 are curved and extended for greater distances than that of the forward arms and which terminate to provide slotted portions 37 and curvedafter the manner of the aforementioncd arms. Fastenin means 38 are carried adjacent the ends o the casin 10 and projected within the slotted portions. The forward arms 39 are pivotally connected with the casing to permit of swinging ad justment to the lamp casing.
As a further accomplishment and derivative of the invention, as illustrated in Figure 9 of the drawings, it is my intention to utilize the projecting portion of the top as the upper portion of a closure along with brace members, not shown. A bottom wall 40 completes the enclosure. pluralityof lamps 41 has the handle portion thereof mounted within a ball and socket connection in the rear wall of the enclosure or lamp compartment to facilitate focusing of the lam independently of the enclosure.
T e invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such cha s as properly fall within the scope of t e appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed is:
1. A vehicle light comprising a casing having a reflector disposed laterally the approximate width thereof, an attaching plate carried by the vehicle providing a forwardlys and rearwardly converging portion, and attaching arms carried upon the underside of the lamp casing and terminatin in a sin le cylindrical end portion positioned witin the enclosure defined by the forwardly and rearwardly curved portion of the attaching plate to provide a swinging support for said casing.
2. A vehicle light comprising a casing having a reflector disposed laterally the approximate width thereof, arms carried by and rojected from the casing, a cylindrical portion establishing connection between said arms, a supporting plate carried by the vehicle, and the forward ed of the sup orting plate being reversely gut upon itse f to provide a pocket within whichl the cylindrical portion may be received and to provide a hin ed mounting for the casing.
3. vehicle light comprising a casing having a reflector disposed laterally the approximate width thereof, arms carried by and-projected from the casing, a cylindrical portion establishing connection between said arms, a support' plate carried by the vehicle, the forwar edge of the supporting plate being reversely bent upon itself to provide a pocket within which the cylindrical ppnrtion may be received and to provide a ged mounting for the casin and means carried at the ends of said cylindrical rtion being adapted to abut the side e ges of 'the reversely bent portion of the supporting plate to prevent lateral shifting move ment thereof.
In testimoni whereof I 'aix my signature.
