TOY BOMB OR PROJECTOR.

This invention relates to toy bombs or projectors of the kind in which a quantity of smalhtoys, confetti or other material is arranged in a suitable receptacle so as to be expelled therefrom and showered broadcast by'the explosion of a small charge.

According to the present invention, a toy bombcontains paper or othei"streamers 'e. g. paperstrips of substantial length wound up or folded into relatively small compass andjadapted to be unrolled by holdingone end and throwing the body thereof, "sucl1," streamers being secured by'one of their ends to the body or receptacle or other part of the bomb, so that upon explosion of the charge the rolled or folded streamers are expelled and thereby caused to unroll.

' The body of the bomb may be of a well known form consisting of a cylindrical or other shaped receptacle secured to a suitable base for supporting same for instance upon atable, the charge being contained in the base of the receptacle, and the latter remaining after explosion upon the table or other supporting surface.

One suitable construction in accordance with the invention comprises a cylinder or the like secured to abase as aforesaid with a propelling charge located in the bottom or less filled with rolled paper streamers of various colours or/and shapes. One end of each of these streamers is secured, for example by glue, either directly to the mouth of the cylinder or to short lengths of tape or stronger paper or the like which in turn are attached to the mouth of the cylinder. Light toys or other articles if desired may be mixed in with the streamers, and if the contents are liable to damage or to become ignited by the explosion of the charge when only a single disc is interposed, a wad of felt or the like and a second strawboard disc may be provided. The top of the cylinder may be left open or may be lightly sealed by a paper or other cap. The rolled streamers or/and other articles may be wrapped in a paper cover.

The usual igniting fuse for the propelling charge instead of projecting laterally through the side of the cylinder or other receptacle may according to a feature of this invention be turned upwards so as to lie elose again he exterior of the ramptacle where it is retained in any convenient manner as for instance by a binding tape running around the receptacle; In this manner possibility of burning or damaging the surface upon which the bomb is placed is eliminated.

A form of construction in accordance with this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows A Vertical sectional view of a toy bomb containing rolled streamers with their free end secured to the'body of the projector.

Referring to this drawing:

Secured to a base A of strawboard, wood or other suitable material is a cylindrical tube B also of strawboard or paper or the like having a reinforcing disc 0 at the bottom. Glued or otherwise fixedto this disc C is a short length'of tube l) containing a small explosive charge E, for instance guncotton, arranged to be ignited by a fuse F which projects laterally through a hole in the receptacle B and, according to a feature of the invention is turned up to lie close against the side of the receptacle and secured by a band of paper or tape G, instead of projecting from the side of the receptacle as hitherto usual.

Fitted over the tube D is a second short length of tube' H carrying a strawboard or other disc J which covers in the propelling charge E. To prevent injury to the contents of the cylinder by explosion of the charge a wad K of paper, felt or the like is placed on the disc J and covered by a second disc L of similar material.

Filled in on top of the disc L is a number of rolled streamers M of paper or the like which have their free ends M passed over the mouth of the container B and secured thereto for example by glue. If desired these free ends of the streamers may be made of textile tape or of stronger paper than the remainder of the streamers. The mouth of the cylinder B is closed by a disc N which sits upon the edge of the receptacle so as to resist external pressure and is sealed by a paper cap 0.

The propelling charge E is shown as concentrated centrally within the receptacle B, but it will be obvious that it may simply be spread over the disc 0 if desired and covered by the disc J. Furthermore the wad K and disc L may be dispensed with although their use obviates the possibility of the "from the mouthof the receptacle and due to their attachment thereto. are caused to unroll and spread out in the air. 2.
