PATENT IMPROVEMENT IN DREDGING-BOKXES.
Specitication forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,670, dated lIuly 20, 1875; application filed February 3, 1575.
To all who-m yit may concern Be it known that we, FREDERICK T. GooD- WIN and ADDISON IvEs, ot Boston, in the county of Sni'olk, State ot' Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Dredging-Boxes, ot' which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which our invention appertans to make and use'the same, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is an isometrical perspective view, showing the box with the cover removed and Fig. 2, a like view, showing the box with the cover in position for use.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawing.
Our invention relates more especially to that class of dredging-boxes which are designed i'or domestic purposes; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, by which a simpler, cheaper, and more effective device of this character is produced than is now in ordinary use.
The extreme simplicity of our invention renders an elaborate description unnecessary.
In the drawing, A represents the body of the box, which may be composed of tin, Wood, or any other suitable material, one of its sides at the top being cutout to form the aperture D. The cover B is made to fit nicely over the top of ,the box, its rim or annular vertical flange being provided for a portion ot its length With a series of perforations or holes, C.
From theforegoixig it will be readily obvious tol all conversant with such matters, that when the cover is placed upon the box, as shown in Fig. 2, if the holes C correspond in position with the aperture D, the contents of the box may be readily sit'ted or passed through the holes 5 but if the cover is turned or revolved laterally until the holes are brought into a position opposite the aperture D, the holes will be closed.
It Will also be seen that by partially turning the cover, a part ol' the holes only will be closed, a part being left open, by means of which the discharge of the contents of the box may be graduated, as desired.
For the purpose of operating the cover more readily, the projections a a are provided upon its opposite sides. These may be struck up from the substance composing the rim, or otherwise, as preferred.
Having thus explained our invention, what We claim is- The dredgingbox described, the same consisting ofthe body A, having the apertures D and the cover B, provided With the holes O, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as specified. l
