. Application filed April 12, 1926.` Serial No. 101,440.
This invention relates to exercising `apparatus, andinore particularly to an exercising cot, and the general objectof the invention is to provide an exercising cot on which a. person, ina reclining position, may effectively exercise his arms, legs, body and neck. f
Other objects and advantageswill appear hereinafter. l
In this specification andthe annexed drawings I disclose my invention in the form which I consider the best, but Iv do not limit my invention to such i'orin because it may loe-embodied in other forms, and it is to be understood thatin and by the claims of this specification I'inten'd to cover my invention in whatever form it may be embodied.
In vthe drawings: w l
Fig. 1 is aside elevation of my exercising cot, showing aman reclining thereon with his head raised, his back lowered and his legs retracted, the head rest, back engaging strap and foot rest of the'cotbeing respectively raised, lowered and retracted to support the occupant vvin such position.
Fig.,2'is a side elevationot1 the cot showing the head rest, back engaging strap and toot restA respectively lowered, raised and extended, whereby the occupants head is lowered, his back raised and his legs extended. i i
Fig. 3 is a sideclevation of one of the auxiliary `frames and the operating lmeans mountedk thereon.
Fig. 4 is a front elevationgof the auxiliary frame and operating means shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the cot frame with certain parts shown thereon and otherl parts left-off. y y f Fig; 6 is a transverse vertical sect-ion taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 5 of one of the frame section locks.
shaped sections 2 and 3. ,The sections 2 and aremade otmetal tubing, the section 2vbe1ng bent at two points at right angles Atoform an end member 4 and a pair of side members 5, and the section 'being bent at right angles at two points to form an end member AGand a pair of side `members 7. The tubing of which the section 2 is formed is slightly larger in diameter than the tubing of which the section Skis formed, so thatV the sidemembers 7 of section 3 may tit and telescope within the side members 5 of the section 2. The end member 6 of sec tion 2 is bowed downwardly 'for the purpose hereinafter described. The frame 1 is supported on three pairs of legs 8,9 and 10, the legs 8 and 9j supporting the frame section 2 and the legs 10 supporting the frame section 3. Thelegs 8 extend vertically and are secured at their upper ends to the frame section 2 at the j unctures of end Ymember 4 and side members 5 respectively. The legs 9 are securedat their upper ends to the side frame members 5 of section 2 about two-thirds the length of said section from the legs 8. The legs 10 are secured at their upper ends to Vthe frame section 3 at the juncture of the side members 7 and the'end member 6l of said section.
A head rest 11 is pivotally 'mounted' in the outer or head end of the frame section 2. The upper, lower and outer sides` of said head. restare rectangular, and the head rest is triangular in cross section, the lower f and upper sides of the restconverging inwardly Jfrom .said outer side =to the inner side edge of the rest, at which edge the rest is pivoted to the inside of the side members 5 of frame section 2 by pivots 12 proj ecting from the ends of the rest into bearings 13 on the side members 5, so that the rest may swing up or down from said inner edge within theouter end of said frame section 2. Anhinverted U-shaped supportingframe 14 for the head rest 11 is pivoted at the Alower ends of its side `arms to the legs 8 at 14, anda linl 15 is connected yat one end to one ofsaid side arms` and at its other end to a lever 16, which is pivotedv toV o ne of the side members -5 of the frame section 2 rearwardly of` the head rest 1 1, which lever maybe grasped bythe occupant of the cot and swung rearwardly to swing the frame 1 4 through link 15. under theouter side of the head rest l1 to Isupportsaid lside of the rest-in raised :postening the cranks 3G in one direction the straps 23 are unwound from the drinn section 21 and the head rest and the occupants head allowed to swing down by gravity on the pivots l2, while the straps 24 are wound on the drum sections 22 and the back engaging strap 3l drawn upwardly against the sheet 40 and the small of the occupants back, whereby the occupants body is bent upwardly lat the small of his back. Upon reversing said cranks the head rest and the occupants head are raised while the belt 3l and the occupants body at Vthe small of his back are lowered.' IVliile raising and lowering his head and body the occupant may also exercise his legs by alternately pushing the foot rest 51 rearwardly by his feet in the stirr'ups 60 against the tension of springs 55, and then allowing` the springs to retract the foot rest and the occupant-s le'gs.
Vhat I claim is: y
l. An exercising cot, a frame, a body rest onsaid frame, a head rest on said frame, a back engaging member mounted on said frame to be raised and lowered and to engage the occupant under the small ofthe back, and means for raising and lowering said back engaging member 'for raising and lowering the occupants body at the small of his back.
2. In an exercising cot, va frame, a body rest on said frame, a. head rest on said frame, a back engaging member mounted on said frame to be raised .and lowered and to enthe occupant under the small ot' the back, and means operable by the occupant oi the cot for raising and' lowering said back engagingmember for raising and lowering the occupants body at the `small of his back. Y
3. In an exercising cot, a frame, a body rest on said frame, a head iest pivoted on said frame, a back engaging member mounted on said frame to be raised and lowered and to engage the occupant under the small of the back, means for swinging said head rest up and down and means for raising and lowering said back engaging means.
4e. In an exercising cot, a frame7 abody rest on said frame, a head rest on said frame,
back engaging member mounted on said 'rest on said frame, a head rest on said frame,
