BANDEAU FOR SHAMPOO PURPOSES.

My present invention pertains to toilet articles, and contemplates the provision of a bandeau for use during the washing of the head of an adultor a child with a view to preventing soap and soapy water from reaching the face, eyes and ears of the party who is being shampooed.

Another object of the invention is the provision of-a device of the character indicated, which is adapted when not in use to be reduced to a package of small compass.

Other objects and practical advantages of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:-

My novel device is adapted-to be fastened upon the head after the manner illustrated in Figure 1, and the major portion of the device is composed of rubber or of any other material consonant with the purposes of the invention.

As illustrated the shampoo bandeau comprises among other elements a band 1, the said band being preferably, though not necessarily. crimped along its upper edge designated by 2, with a view to enabling it to better grasp and tightly fit under pressure the head of the person who is being shampooed. A tight fit at the point indicated is. of course, essential as will be appreciated when it is remembered that the primary purpose of my novel device is to prevent the soapy water from the hair passing down to the face and the eves and ears. Adjacent to one end the band 1 is provided with a male fastener member 3, and adjacent to its other end the band is provided with two more or less female fastener members 4:, a plurality of the latter members being preferably employed in order that the band may be tightly fitted to heads of different sizes.

Appropriately attached to the band 1 is a cape 5 having for its function to protect the back and shoulders of the *party being shampooed, and above the said rape 5 is a Serial No. 91.975.

In addition to the elements named, the bandeau comprises a marginal inflatable portion 8, the discharge 9 of which is in direct communication with the trough 6 so that water is free to pass from the band portion 1 to the trough 6. The marginal inflatable portion 8 is appropriately joined to the outer portion of the band '1, and when inflated through the inflation tube 10 or in any other approved manner, the portion 8 in conjunction with the band 1 is'adapted to form a gutter of ample capacity to take care of the water that flows from the hair, and to conduct the said water to the trough 6. At this point, I would direct attention particularly to the fact that the deflatable capacity of the portion 8 is materially advantageous inasmuch as after use of the shampoo bandeau and deflation of the portion 8, the device -may be compactly folded so as to take up but little room in a toilet kit. It Will also be noted in this connection that the portion 8 is adapted to be quickly and easilyinflated as a condition precedent'to the application of the bandeau to the head, for the use of the same on the head. Of course, when it is deemed expedient, the inflation of the portion 8 may be effected after the application of the band 1 to the head, and the fastening of the said hand through the medium of the fastening means described.

Incident to the practical use of my novel bandeau, the improved device will not offer any interference whatever with a thorough shampooing operation and yet the device will preclude the descent of water to the face, eyes or ears of the person being shampooed, and will also adequately protect the back and shoulders of such person and carry all of the water from the head to a receptacle placed for the reception of the water.

I show my novel bandeau as equipped with a chin strap 11, permanently connected to the band 1 at 12, and equipped with a female fastener member 13 for cooperation with a male fastener member 14 on the band 1, this provision being made in order that analogous material or of any other material compatible with the purpose of the chin strap.

Notwithstanding the capacity of function ascribed to my novel shampoo bandeau, it will be noted that the device as a whole is simple and susceptible of inexpensive production, and may therefore be sold with reasonable profit for a small price.

The construction herein described in detail constitutes the best practical embodiment of my invention of which I am cognizant, and the detailed description has been adopted in order to impart a full, clear and eXact understanding of the embodiment in every detail. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to the construction and relative arrangement of the parts as shown and described, my invention being defined by my appended claims within the scope of which structural changes and changes in location may be made without de- 4 parture from my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

1. A shampoo bandeau comprising a gutter portion and a discharge leading therefrom and also comprising a cape. portion carried by the gutter portion and disposed below said discharge.

2. A shampoo bandeau comprising a gutter portion and a discharge leading therefrom and also comprising a cape portion carried by the gutter portion and disposed below said discharge; the said gutter portion being made up of a band, and a marginal inflatable portion on the band.
