Among other elements my novel construction includes two pipes 1 and 2. The upper pipe 1 is arranged on the top of the crownsheet 3 of the boiler for the purpose of washing oli any mud or scale which may settle there; it being understood in this connection that the said pipe 1 is provided at its undery side at intervals of its length with apertures 4. The lower pipe 2 is disposed in the barrel 5 of the boiler, and is designed to wash mud and scale out of the' barrel and toward the blow-ot valve, indicated by 6. It will be apparent from the foregoing that when a boiler is equipped with my improvement, mud and scale may be washed out of the boiler when'the same is under steam pressure, by the forcing of the water through the mud ring 10 and the pipes 1 and 2, kthereby setting up a circulation of water toward the blowo valve 6, with the result that when said valve is opened, the boiler will be expeditiously and thoroughly cleaned. It will also be apparent that the arrangement of my improvement is such as to bring about agitation of mud or scale iny the boiler, and all circulation of water being' 1 in the direction of the blow-oif valve when the same is opened, the mud and scale will settle toward the said blow-ofi valve. In this connection it will be appreciated that the mud and scale, because of their specific gravity, will be washed along the bottom of the boiler formed by the mud ring 10, until the foreign substances arrive at the blow-od` valve 6, which valve will be opened during the maintenance of the circulation stated.
The feed water pump 12 is connected by pipe 31 with an appropriate source of feed water supply (not shown), and by a pipe 31X with the steam dome of the boiler, and by pipes 32 with the pipes l and 2 andthe mud ring 10.
