y invention relates to devices for firmly fastening or looking together the lower edges of the two overlapping flaps of leggings and the like and has for its object to provide an improved device of this character simple in construction, cheap and easy to manufacture, readily applicable to the great durability and efficiency in use and renderingit possible to readily engage and disengage the said twoflaps by hand whilst absolutely preventing them from disengaging themselves accidentally.

Hitherto, the two overlapping flaps of leggings have been fastened together by different devices such, for instance, as straps attached to buckles ior loops, laces passed through a series of eyeleted holes, or else staples, clips, tongues or the like fixedly secured to one flap and engaging similar members on the vices. However the fastening device most commonly used in th'erpast consists of an upper strap attached to buckles on both flaps of the legging and asteel plate spring retained adjacent the longitudinal edge of the outer flap and engaging-a metal socket or similar means secured adjacent the lower end of the inner flap. This fastening device as well as the other ones above referred to has a serious drawback in that it does not provide a rigid locking means for the two overlapping flaps of the legging which can thus disengage themselves duringuse. One feature of the present mvention consists in providingthe inner face of the outer" flap of the legging with the overlapping usual fixed steel plate spring which extends adjacent the over the greater part of the length thereof but terminates at asho-rt distanceyfrom the lower edge of the legging, and in so constructing the said spring that its lower free extremity is reduced in width and tongueshaped for engagement with a suitably other flap, or similar dc longitudinal edge of saidflap 'gitudinal view of the inner flap and having a novel construction as Wlll appear hereinafter.
