Description

April 21; 1925.
' D. E. GIBSON FOUNTAIN GLOVE Filed Nov. 30, 1928 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 21, i925.
DELSWOETH E. GIBSON, OE DUNKIRK, NEW YORK.
FOUNTAIN GLOVE.
Application filed November 30, 1923.
To all whom it may concern: \v
Be it known that I, DELsWoRrrr E. GIB- son, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dunkirk, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this device is the provision of means whereby water or other liquid may be supplied to the palm portion of a hand covering for the purpose of moistening a sponge held between the fingers of the operator, received in the covering or whereby water may be directly applied to a surface to be cleaned.
Another object is the provision of means for directing water in spray form through the outer portion of a hand covering, in the nature of a glove or gauntlet, at the palm portion thereof, the passage of the water or saponaceous fluid being controlled by a valve associated with the covering, and means, in the nature of a guard, being provided at the wrist portion of the covering for directing water therefrom to prevent the same contacting the arm of the operator during the cleaning process.
With the above and other objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction hereinafter definitely set forth, claimed and illustrated by the drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view illustrating the application of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through the improvement approximately on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through the improvement approximately on the line 33 of Figure '2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the nozzle.
The hand covering is in the nature of a glove or gauntlet 1 which is of waterproof material and which may have integrally formed therewith, upon its outer and inner surface, a tubular extension in the nature of a hose 2. The hose projects a suitable distance beyond the inner end of the covering 1 and has at its outer end a suitable nipple 3 whereby the same may be connected directly to the supply hose. The hose 2 has its passage controlled by a valve operated by a Serial No. 677,899.
handle 4, the said valve being preferably located at the juncture of the hose with the hand covering 1.
The hose has its inner end terminating in a nozzle enlargement 5, the same being preferably of globular formation, and also being preferably constructed of the same material as is the hose and the covering. The globular member is, of course, provided with spaced series of apertures whereby water through the hose will be directed at various angles with respect to the hand covering.
At the wrist portion of the hand covering 1 there is formed an outstanding basin 6 which is also preferably of the same material as that of the hose and the hand covering. This basin will prevent water from the nozzle dropping on to the arm of the user of the device. The basin, at one portion thereof may be provided with a suitable outlet.
The improvement is devised for use in washing automobiles, floors or in fact, any
ther surface to be cleaned. By reference to the drawing it will be noted that the nozzle 5 terminates on the palm portion of the covering at the juncture of the finger portions 7 therewith. Thus the finger portions may grasp a sponge which has been suitably lathered. The flow of fluid through the tube 2 is, as stated, controlled by the valve 4; and the said valve is, of course, oper ated by the second hand of the user of the improvement. If desired, a saponaccous fluid may be conducted directly through the hose 2, and from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawing, the construction and advantages of the improvement will, it is thought, be obvious to those skilled in the art to which such inventions relate.
Having described the invention, I claim A glove having means for introducing water through the palm thereof, a shield for preventing water dripping from the glove on to the arm or clothing of the user of the glove, said shield comprising a circumferential flange surrounding and integrally formed with the wrist portion of the glove and directed toward the tip of the glove to form the drip catching groove.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
DELSWORTH E. GIBSON.
