Description

J. B. AGNEW, sR
OIL CAN Flled A1or114 1922 ATTORN EY WITNESS:
Patented Bec. 4, 1923,
umass, vaeNrrw, sa., or MOUNT UNION, PENNSYLVANIA.
OIL CAN.
Application led April 4,
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES B. AeNnw, Sr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Union, in the county of Huntingdon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil Gans, of which the following is a specific-ation.
This invention relates to oil cans and it has more particular reference to a novel form of oil can which is primarily devised to save the oil, that is to say, the upper part of the can is inclined at such an angle and the spout is attached at the top of the can instead of the center` as on the old style can.
Another feature f the invention is that the handle of the can is so positioned relative to the body and spout thereof that when said can is being carried it is always maintained in a substantially upright position whereby any dripping or leakage is prevented.
A further feature of this invention connr sists in providing an oil can having a picker which serves the dual purpose of preventing an air-lock 1n the oil can as well as servv ing for cleaning out oil holes when necessary.
With the foregoing and other objects in view as will be more apparent from the following description this invention essentially consists in the novel form ofv oil can body shown and described in connection with the accompanying sheet of drawings, the latter constituting a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference desig nate the same or correspondingparts in all the views.
Figure l--is a part sectional elevation showing my improved oil can'. Y
Figure 2is a vertical section taken at right angles thereto and centrally of the spout; and, y Figure 3-is a detail of the picker or removable element hereinafter more fully referred to.
In accordance with my invention and as illustrated it will be seen that there are really only three parts that constitute the can, namely, the body 10, spout 11 and handle 12. It is however to be carefully noted that the upper part of the can body is truncated or fashioned with an inclined t9.-
.without any loss or spillage- 1922. Serial No. 549,493.
per 13 leading from the front of ythe can toward that part of the back where the spout ferrule or attaching collar is connected. In
other words, it will be seen that the body 10 is made in such a shape and at such an angle that the spout 11'is attached at the top of the can instead of the center as in the old style can. Now being attached in that manner with the handle 12 in the posi-` spout 11 a drop at a time because the pressure is in the bottom of the can and below the angle of the spout, therefore, when the can is placed in position to pour out oil one may, if necessary, place a drop here or there, Obviously the shape of the spout in cross section or longitudinal sec-tion is immaterial as Vit maybe curved or of straightformation a-s shown. Provided at the top of the can adjacent the spout 11 is a small air hole or vent 15 in which is normally placed a picker or rod 16 and it will be perfectly obvious that by withdrawing this picker or partially with drawing the same the pressure in the oil v can will be distributed or released and the oil permitted to flow out more freely. On 'Y the other hand, this picker 16 alsoserves for cleaning out oil holes.'
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen by my invention that' I have provided an extremely useful and service-V able can for the purposes set forth. Y
Having described my invention, whatv I claim as'new and'desire to secure by Letters Patentis: v
v1. An oil can having a tubular body provided with an inclined upper end the inclination thereof being directed to one side of the can, a spout removably attached to the oil can and a handle on the body portion at that side thereof remote from the aforesaid inclined portion, and a removable picker tting an air-vent 1n the body of the oil can. Y
2. An oil can including a cylindrical body inclined portionV and abuttingv the. reduced portion one Wall whereof is extended and the outlet, and an "oil hole cleaner removably othe 'Surrounding lwally*nizaifdly l'aredlttng an *air-Ventfinlthe' body of the can 10 th'eeto to piovide a reduedoutlet, a' soutmadjaeent the reduced'V outlet.
5 removably attached to the aforesaid reduced Y In testimony Whereof'I aix my signature.
