JOSEPH HA ERING, OF LOUISVILE, KENTUCKY.
" COW-TAIL HOLDER.
Application filed December 2, 1921. Serial No. 519,451.
To all whom it may. concern: v
Be it known that JOSEPH HAERING, a citizen of' the United States of America, residingat Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, has invented new and useful Improvements in Cow-Tail.
Holders, of which the followirw is a specification.
The object of the invention is to-"provide simple and elficient means for holding the v tail of a cow during the time when she ishoused in cool weather, so that the tail may be maintained at a suflicient distance from the fioor to be kept free of the filth, thereon. Further the object is to secure the tailv in such a position that anything thereon will be precluded from falling or dropping into the milk. Further, the purpose of the in-v vention is to save the time of the milker, since the supporting of the tail as provided by the invention, will make it unnecessary to wash the cow before milking. With these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combinationo f parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a view of a holder embodying the invention arranged in the operative position. Figure 2 is a side view of the holder clamp. Figure 3 is an edge view of the same. vThe holder consists of a clamp or strap 10 of flexible material adapted to be rolled or wrapped around the tail of the cow near,
flexible cord 14 adapted to be engaged withan eye 15 in the end of the strap opposite to the eyes 11, and in the construction ill lustrated the anchoring means is indicated as a staple 16 secured to some fixed object such as a wall shown at 17 I Inorder that the efforts of the cow to move the tail may i not meet with a fixed obstruction or resistance which might tend to cause ,restiveness of the animal it is preferable to provide the anchoring cord 14 with a yielding element consisting for exampleof a spring 18 serv- 1 ing to break the jar and yield to a certain extent to the movements of the tail.
Moreover in order that the disengagement of the clamp or strap from the tail may be effected without manipulation on the part of the operator a releasing cord 19 connected with the anchoring means is attached to the cotter pin 13 as shownin. Figure 1.
position occupied during the milkingoperation, the strain upon the' anchoring cord 14 will stretch the spring 18 :and thereby tighten the releasing cord 19 which will disengage the cotterpin from the stud 12 and" thereby release the clamp.
In order to preclude the possibility of v the tail becoming entangled with thecords l4 and 19, there is provided a tubular member QOthrough Whichthe cords are inserted against the strap.
Having described the invention, what is f V claimed as new and useful is prior toattaching the clamp or strap 10, the lower end of the tubular member resting A cow tail holding device consisting of with a stud, and a plurality of eyes for selective engagement with the stud, a key detachably engaged with the stud for holding i an eye in engagement therewith, anchoring and releasing cords for connection with an overhead support and also having con nection respectively with the flexible mem-' ber of the clasp and said key, the anchoring cord including an velastically extensible. member, and a protective sheath embracing to the clasp for preventing the entangling v of the cow tail therewith. I In testimony whereof he affixes his sig-'- the anchoring and releasing cords adjacent nature. j
JOSEPH HAERING.
