T 0 aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, inux11 FRANK HAR- vEY, a subject of theKing of Great Britain, and resident of the city of Toronto, county of York, Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Boxes, described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, that form part of the same.

The principal objects of this invention are to devise a form of box which will enable the goods contained therein to be displayed to advantage being supported rigidly in an inclined position.

A further object is to devise a box with a cover constructed so as to firmly secure the contents in place and which may be turned back in such a manner as to rigidly support the box in the raised position and also rigidly support a display card at the upper enc The principal feature of the invention consists in the novel formation of the box whereby the cover is formed with side flaps adapted to securely lock the sides and to be turned back and lock securely in the opened position to elevate one end of the box and todsupport a display portion on the upper en In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the box shown in the closed position and Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the box with the cover turned back and supporting the box in a raised position.

Referring to the accompanying drawings it will be seen that the blank is formed from a substantially rectangular piece of card having a longitudinal centre'strip 1 which forms the bottom, ends and top. The inner sections 2 are creased across the strip 1 and having the laterally extending tabs 3 and between the tabs on either side are arranged the side members 4 which are separated from the tabs 3 to form a part of the body 1, being creased along the same longitudinal lines as the tabs.

The outward edges of the members 4; are creased longitudinally at the same depth as the width of the tabs 3 and the outer edges are formed with rounded lugs 5. Curved slits 7 and 8 are formed in the; side members i 4 arranged in angular positions for a purpose which will hereinafter appear. The central portion 1 extends outwardly from one end to form the cover 9 and at the other end. this cover is provided with the portions 11 which are adapted to enter theslits 7 and 8.

The cover portion 9 is preferably cut through on its longitudinal centre to form a tab 12 and the cover is creased transversely -from the base of the tab cut 12.

In forming the box the ends 2 are turned upwardly and the tabs 3 are turned inwardly. The sides 4 are then turned upwardly along the longitudinal crease and the upper portion of the sides is bent over the tabs 3 and the lugs 5 are inserted in the slits 6, thus forming the body of the box into a strong structure.

The top 9is then bent over close to the box as shown in Figure 52, with the tabs 11inserted in the slits 7. These tabs hold the cover 9 securely down upon the top of the box and also bind in the sides of the box and a very secure package is made.

When it is desired to display the contents of the box the free end of the cover is bent upwardly and the flaps 10 spring out to release the tabs 11 from the slits 7. The cover is then raised up and bent backwardly on the creased line 13 so that the portion 14 extends upwardly at the end of the ,box as shown in Figure 3 with the display tab 12 projecting from the top. The remaining portion of the cover folds back against the end of the box and projects below it. v

The side lugs 10 of the top are bent back in the opposite direction so that the lugs 11 may be entered into the slits 8 in the sides of the box. When the lugs are thus inserted the cover support is secured to form a rigid support for holding the box in the raised position so as to display the goods therein.

What I claim as my invention is 1. A display box, comprising, a body portion having slits insides, a cover hinged to one of the ends of the body portion and having side flaps bent downwardly and each formed with lugs adapted to enter said slits to hold the cover locked in its closed position, said cover having a transverse crease intermediate of its length and adapted to be turned back to lie against the end of the box-: and to project above the top of the edge the creased portion projecting above the edge and the under projecting below the bottom and adapted to be secured in. such position.'

2. A display box, comprising, a body portlon and a cover formed of one piece, the sides of the body portion each having a pair of angularly arranged slits, the cover having a pair of side flaps at the outer end, said side flaps having lug ends at the ends adj acent to the body portion adapted to enter and en age the slits in the body, said cover being transversely creased intermediate of its length and adapted to be folded, the portion adjacent to the body being adapted to lie in alignment with the end and project above the top of the box When the cover is folded back, the lugs of the said cover being adapted to engage the other pair of slits in the body to hold the cover against the end of the box and to support the body in the raised position.
