To all whom it may concermf Be it known that I, SEBAs IANoPARIsI, a citizen of Italy, and residingrat New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inner Soles, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled inthe. art to. which it appertains to make and use the same. y

This invention relates to'innerj soles and I particularly to devicesof this classdesigned to be connected directly with the foot of the wearer, and the object of the invention is to provide an inner sole with means for holding th toes of a foot in proper position when the foot is placed within a shoe and also to hold thetoesof the footin proper position when the wearer of such .inner sole iswalking, running .or'standing still thus preventing the overlappingv of the separate toes of a foot as is usually the result, especially when shoes of toonarrow widths are used; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists inan inner sole of the class specified, constructed. and operated' as hereinafter described and claimed. : INNER so-Ln In the practice of my invention I provide leather, the side edge portions of which are reduced as indicated at 12 in Fig. 7 of the drawing, and channeled strips of felt or slmllar material 13 are passed over the reduced portions 12 and secured thereto by two lines of stitchings 14, and this construction produces a strong and finished edge for the sole or the body portion 11 thereof. The top and bottom faces of the sole are also covered by sheets of fabric 15 and 16 also preferably composed of felt.

The heel and central portion of the sole is cut longitudinally and transversely as drawing for; the purpose of making the central or body portion of the sole as well as the heel portion thereof'flexible, whereby in the use of the inner sole the same will conform to the foot of the wearer-and also to the shoe Patented Jan. 3, 1922. with a plurality of elongated and spaced apertures 19,, 20, 21 and 22 whichare arranged in the manner illustrated in Fig. 20f the drawing, and mounted in these apertures are reinforcing strips 23, the parts thereof which extend into the apertures 19 being beveled as indicatedv at 24, and the outer or flanged portions 25 thereof overlap the bottom face of the sole and said strips are secured in position by tacks or similar devices 26 passed into the body portion 11 of the sole. A plurality of elongated bars 27 are adapted to be mounted in the apertures 19 to 22 inclusive and said bars are triangularin form in cross section and serve to secure a toe strapmember 28 in position as hereinafter set out.

The strap member 28 is secured to one side edge portion of the sole as indicated at 29 and, in the form of construction shown, this strap member is divided longitudinally as shown at 30 into three comparatively narrow straps 31, 32 and 33. The strap 33 is longer than the strap 32, and the strap 32 is longer than the strap 31, and the separate straps are the apertures 19to 22 to form toe loop members 35, 36, 37 and 38 thereof in the manner lllustrated in Fig. 4. .In my prior patent which is hereinbefore referred to, I employ a single and comparativel wide stra) member which is passed I. a L

transversely of the toe portion of the sole andformed'into a plurality of toe loop members in the same manner as the formation of the loop members 35 to 38 inclusive, but I find that by providing a strap member composed of a plurality of comparativelynarrow straps formed into toe loop members approximately, as indicated in the accompanying drawing, I produce a far better andmore effect-ivesole of the class and for the purpose specified, and by reason of the fact that the tension or pull on the separate straps 31,

' 32 and 33 to properly fit the footof a wearer may be. taken up and thus the separate toes of a foot may be brought in proper position, or in a'position' which will be comfortable to the wearer and yet effectively produce the desired result.

It will be apparent that I am not necessarily limited to any particular arrangement of the separate straps or strap members'employed, nor to the detail construction of said strap-members or straps, and in Fig. 6 of the drawing I have shown a slight modification in which the strap 33 of the strap member 28 terminates in a loop member 37 and sub stituted for the supplemental strap 40 is another supplemental strap member 43 which is composed of separate straps 4:4 and 45, the strap 44 being shorter than the strap 45 and fashioned to form part of the toe loop 42, the other strap 45 forming the other part of said I toe loop and also forming the toe loop 38 by passing said last named strap downwardly and upwardly through the apertures 22 and 21 respectively. It will also be understood that I am not necessarilylimited to the specific means herein shown and described for securing the strap members or straps in position to form the separate loop member, and

various changes in andmodifications of the construction herein shown and describedmay be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of .my'invention'or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An inner solethe toe portion of which is provided with a plurality of independent straps, and means for securing said straps in connection with the sole to form a plurality of toel'oops in connection therewith, V

' 2. An inner sole the toe portion of which is provided with a plurality of independ ently' adjustable toe loops into which the toes of the foot are adapted topass, said toeloopsbeing formed by a plurality of straps.

3. An inner sole of the class described the toe'portion :of which is provided with a plurality of toe loops intowhich the separate toes of'thefoot are adapted to pass, said toe loops being-formed by a plurality of straps.

4. An'inner sole of the class described the toe portionofwhich is provided with a plurality of-toe loops into which the separate toes of the footare adapted to pass, said toe loops being formed by a plurality of straps, and means in the toe portion of the sole for adjusting said. straps so as to form toe loops of different sizes andfor holding said loops in position.

5. An inner sole of the class described comprising toe and heel parts, a strap mem-- ber secured to one side of-the toe part, means on the toe part of said sole in connection with which said strap member operates to form a plura'lityoftoe loops ofsaid strap,

and said strap member being composed of a plurality ofindependently adjustable straps. '3. An inner sole of the class described comprising toe and heel parts, a strap member secured to one side of the toe part, means on the toe part of said sole in connection with which said strap member operates to form a plurality of toe loops of said strap, said strap member being composed of a plurality of independently adjustable straps,

and a strap member secured to the other side edge of the toe part of the sole and cooperating with said first named means to form one or moretoe loops in connection with said sole; V

7. An inner sole of the class described comprisingtoe and heel-parts, a strap member secured" to one side of the toe part, means on the toe part of said sole in connection with which said strap member operates to form a plurality of toe loops of said strap, said strap member being composed of a plu-' rality of'independently adjustable straps, a strap member secured to the other side edge of the toe part of the sole and;- cooperating with said first named means to form one or more toe loops in connection With said sole, and means for securing all of said toe loops in position.

8. An inner sole of the class described comprising toe and heel parts, the body portion of the sole being composed of leather, the edge portions of which are provided With soft fabric edgings, means for permitting of the free movement of the heel and central portion of the sole, fibrous facings for the top and bottom faces of the sole, and the toe part of the sole being provided With a plurality of adjustable strap members adapted to form a plurality of adjustable toe loop members thereon.

9. An inner sole of the class described comprising toe and heel parts, the toe part being provided with a plurality of elongated and spaced apertures, a strap member secured to one side of the toe part and com posed of a plurality of independent straps said straps being adapted to be passed downwardly and upwardly through the apertures of said toe part, and means in said apertures and cooperating with said straps for securing said straps 1n said apertures in different positions of adjustment.

- 10. An inner sole of the class described comprising toe and heel parts, the toe'part being provided with a plurality of elongated and spaced apertures, a strap member secured to one side of the toe part and composed of a plurality of independent straps, said straps being adapted to be passed downwardly and upwardly through the apertures in said toe part, means in said apertures and cooperating With said straps for securing said straps in said apertures in different positions of adjustment, and metallic reinforcing members secured to said sole and extending into said apertures.
