Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25., 1919.
Application filed October 29, 1917. Serial NO. 198,999.
To all whom t may' concern.'
Be it known that I, PERLEY. RAYMOND WESLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have in- Ice-Rags, of which the following is a speciicatlon.
. This invention relates tO certain new and useful improvements in ice bags and pertains more particularly .to an ice bag for use on the head of the user.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an ice bag which is formed so as to be closely fitted to the head of the user and especially to'it comformably over the crown of the head, and -to provide means for fastening the bag so as to hold same securely against accidental movement-without passing beneath the chin.
"Further, the invention aims to provide means for refilling the bag located at the top thereof so as to assist in holding the bag in position on the head of the user.
Further and other objects will be later herein set forth and manifested in the course Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing the bag in position on the head of a user. 1
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the invention showing the parts before the securing strap is secured to the anchoring strap, and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view of the filling means, on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. In proceeding in accordance with the'invention, a bag l preferably of rubber is employed and of somewhat oval form in plan as shown in Fig. 2. The bag has a pair of oppositelylocated members '2 of strip form, which are formed of elastic rubber; a nonelastic strap 3 bearing a' buckle 4, being connected to one of the members 2, while 'a similar non-elasticstrap 5 is connected tothe other memberl 2, and is' passed through a loop 6 formed on the lower end of an anchoring strap 7, the latter connected to the bag l, so as to depend from the rear of the latter and is located at right angles to the has an outwardly turned peripheral `flange 9 at its top. The bag has a neck 10 which is engaged over the periphery of the threads of thel collar 8, and is held in place by an elasticV band 1l which acts to closely hold the neck of the bag against the collar so as to form a water tight joint or connection therewith. A gasket 11 seats on the flange and is-engaged by a cap 12 that has a depending part'13 threaded into engagement with the interior threads of the collar 8. The lower end ofthe collarI 8 is preferably curled at 14 so as to prevent abrasion of the bag 1,- and by virtue of the threads being pressed into the collar it will be apparent that a more eifective securement of the `bag is obtained asis evident from.Fig. 3, in which theband 11 causes the Ibag to be forced into the undulations of the threads.
The bag is usedby placing same on the head of the user in theposition shown in Fig. 1, with the filling means facing upwardly, and with the strap 7 depending from the bag at the backof the head, while be drawn to cause the same to closely and, snugly engage. about the head, holding the bag securely in place. The bag is tilted slightly toward the face of the user so as to prevent any slippageof the strap 5, and the strap 7, acts to prevent undue tilting or lto limit theforward movement'of the bag as is believed 4obvious from Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is Y An ice bag for head. use comprising a seamless, flexible bag body of substantially Oval shape adapted to fit over the forward part of the crown of the head in downwardly tilted position above the forehead, oppositely \extending elastic members attached to the upper side of the body adjacent its end edges, non-elastic securing straps connected In testimony whereof I have signed my 10 to the elastic members, and :t non-elastic annarne to this specification in the presence of chorn strap :ttltfzhed at zlme elzddireztly t? two subscribing witnesses.
tie )o inaci erent ane rom tutto' v u f the elastic members so als) to he disposed on 1 RAY MOND LSLPA' the under side of the body adjacent its rear W'itnesses:
edge whereby it will lieflat on the head, the ADA E. HAGERTY,
