Specification of Letters Patent.
Patenten aan. as, irais.
Application led April 28, 1917. Serial No. 165,154.
.To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, SID A. DEANES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of West Point, in the county of Clay and State of Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in disensing devices, it being in the nature of a ottle or similar holder for a drink, and includes in connection with such bottle and its closure a drinking tube `which is confined within the bottle and immersed or partially immersed in the liquid contained therein, and is provided with a float encircling the drinking tube near its lower end and adapted, when the tube is released from conline ment by the closure of the bottle, when such closure is removed, to buoy the tube up so that its upper end will protrude beyond the mouth of the bottle and be retained in such position by the buoyancy of the doat so that it will not be necessary for the user to handle the drinking tube.
The invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a side view, partly in section, of a bottle with the closure in place on bottle; Y
the neck of the Fig. 2 is a similarview with the closure Y removed, `andbuoyed up in bottle;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of or the drinking tube; and
l? ig. 4 is a cross section on about the line elf-4 of 'Fi 3.
The bote A and its closure A may be of any suitable construction, the closure being shown as removable and of the ordinary crown type.
showing the drinking tube the liquid contents of the a portion provided with my improvement, v
The drinking able material, and is of a length equal to or slightly shorter than the length of the bottle Within the closure. Un this tube, near its lower end, is sleeved a Float C, preferably of cork, in tubular form, slipped over the tube and fitting suliciently tight thereon to cause it to be self-contained in any position to which it may be applied on the tube.
The sleeved float can be made so small as to avoid presenting any particular appearance within the bottle and, being made of cork or similar material, it will not corrode or otherwise injure the contents of the bottle and thus change the taste of the liquid contents. Thus the sanitary character of the drinking tube is not detracted from or njuriously affected in any way, and the float, on account of its length, is a buoying device which can be applied to the tube without materially increasing its cost and will permit the tube to be contained within the bottle when the latter is iilled and sealed for the market.
lt will be noticed from an inspection oi Figs. l and 2 that at its top the tube B has a sleeve or telescoping extension D, which is of a length to permit the straw to be eX- tended to the bottom of the bottle in order that the contents of the bottle may be imbibed without tilting the bottle.
A dispensing device substantially as heretube B may be of any suiti in described, comprising a bottle, a closure for the bottle, and a drinking tube iitted within the bottle and immersed, in part at least, in the liquid contents thereof and having at or near its immersed end a sleeve float iitted on the tube, as and for the purposes set forth, and an extension on the upper end of the tube.
