UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIoE.
HARRIS D. BLOOMENTHAL, OF SUPERIOR, WISCONSIN.
GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Nov, 13, 1917,
' Application filed April 7, 1917. Serial No. 160,554.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIS D. BLOOMEN- THAL, citizen of the United States, residing at Superior, in the county of Douglas and State of Minnesota, have. invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Garments, of which the followmg is a specification, ref- 'erence'being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to garments such as signed to-be slipped on and oif over other clothes worn more continuously.
.' One object of the invention is to provideconvenient means for holding the overalls Another object isto provide such overalls having a detachable bib which may or may not be used therewith.
Still another object is to provide a novel means of supporting the'upperend of the bib about the neck of the wearer.
In the accompanying drawings forming part ofthis application and in which like reference characters indicate like parts Figure 1, is a perspective view of a fragmental portion of a pair of overalls wit the improved bib attached, and
Fig. 2, is a similar view with the bib removed.
1 represents the front of the waist portion of the overalls, 2 the back thereof and 3 the bib. The front waist band is provided with five external buttons 4, to which the bib may be buttoned, as itis rovided with suitable button holes 5 for sue purpose. Q
I When the bib is removed, one or more of the buttons 4 may be buttoned into the front straps of the regular suspenders, if used by the wearer of the overalls, but the belt, hereinafter described, will ordinarily form adequate means of support and especially so inasmuch as a very much larger number, than heretofore, of working men have come to n'sing trousers and overalls without suspenders. I
The waist band 6, of the back portion 2, is formed of a double wall and hollow throughout, providing a suitable casing through which the belt 7 passes, forming a sort of draw string to the waist band 6.
One end of the belt is permanentlyfas tened, as-at 8, to one corner of: the front waist portion and is designed toenter the open end of the casing 6, upon the ad acent corner of the -V-shaped. opening 9, one of which occurs upon each side of the waist of the overalls. v
The free end of the belt protrudes at all times from the opposite open end of the easing and is of a relative size to freely pass therethrough. On the corner 11, of the front portion of the waist, is permanently fixed a short piece of belt 12, which is designed to be tied to the free end of the belt 7 across the top of the opening 10, for holding the I band of the overalls tightly about the waist of the wearer.
It is evident that these ends of the belt may be drawn to a tension to suit the wearer,
plished..
As an additional means of support for the back of the trousers, I provide two loops 13-43 stitched to the inside of the ;waist band and which may,,if desired, be attached to the'suspenders of the wearer, and similar loops 19-19 may be-zstitched to the front portion of the waist band, for a like purpose.
The belt and loops I prefer to form of the same material as t attached to the button 18, attached to the opposite corner of the upper' end of the bib. It is readily seen that the loop thus formed by the belting 16 may bereadily 100 slipped oven the head of the wearer without in any other manner adjusting same.
While I have shown the bib as detachably fixed to the trousers, it is evident that it may be permanently fixed thereto if desired. Q
From the foregoing, it is evident that I have devised anovel combination garment and one having many commendable characteristics.
Having thus described my invention what 110 and the. tying quickly and easily accomat of which the overalls are made, but they may be of othermaterial I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
'A pair of overalls, having in combination \l-shaped openings ineither side of the waist thereof. dividing the waist band into two continuous halves, a detachable bib buttoned to the front half of the waist band, said bib having independent supporting means at the upper end thereof, the back half of the waist band formed into a hollow casing, upwardly extending loops permanently fixed to the front of the hollow easing, similar loops permanently fixed to the inside of the front half of the waist band, a belt permanently fixed to one corner of the front half mesme-
