Be it known-that I, CHARLES TETER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county f Cuyahoga and, State of Ohio, have invented certain newA hand useful Improvements in Facial Inhalers, of which the following is a specification. ,i v y y My invention relates to improvements in a facial inhaler, designed for .use in connection with anesthetizing apparatus, and has for `its object the provisionnrst, of an inhaling device, which will self-adapting to thefeatures of the patient, for the purpose of excluding the air; second, which will permit-the observation of the patients features, for the4 purpose of detecting any retching; third, which provides a positive, adjustressure-valve, and finall one which may e readily and efectually sterilized. It will be lobserved that ythe pneumatic cushion is disposed immediately beneath the 'edges` of the Celluloid body-portion,` Iwhereby the pressure upon the face of the patient may e light and yet suflicient to permit any necessary working-pressure for the anesthetic.
Casual consideration will show that all the parts of my inhaler are readily accessible for inspection, replacemeiit'or adjustment, and that they are so designed as to permit of very ready and effectual sterilization. The rubber cushion and apron may be replaced at small cost, while thev other parts are not subject to deterioration or damage from ordinary use. i
Having nowV described the preferred em bodiment of my invention, I claim as newv and desire to secure'by Letters Patent, the following 1. The-combinationwith an inhaling device having an inhaler-member, of an associated valve affording a relatively large clearance therefor; a spring normally acting to close said valve, an adjustable part for `varying the `tension exerted by the spring against the Valve, a slotted casing for the spring, and a gage associated therewith; all visibly and accessibly mounted upon the inhaler-member, substantially as sot forth.
2. The combination with an inhaling device, having an inhaler member and a free valve opening, of a valve-part normally closing the same, a slotted tubular casing above said 'valv` -part, a relatively .long spring therein ating against said valvepart, a member `extending through said slotted casing for varying the tension of the spring, and means for securing said member at predetermined points alongsaid casing for insuring positivelpressure Within the inhaling device; all` visibly and accessiblymounted upon the inhalen-member, substantially as set forth.
3. In an inhaling device, the combination justable spring governing valve, a gage and mea-ns for setting the ten- 1,247.4,ee1- y with -a substantially bell-shaped body-portion formed of celluloid and free from obstructing members externally and internally thereof, of suitable inlet and outlet niembers connected therewith, and a soft rubber apron equipped vwith a. peripheral pneumatic ciishionysaid cushion being normally positioned beneath the lower edges or riin yof said body-portion,substantially asset forth. 4. In an inhaling device, the combination with a substantially bell-shaped body-portion, formed 4oftransparent material having unobstructed Sides, of suitable inlet and outlet members connected therewith, a peripheral pneumatic cushion positioned adjacent to the rim or edges of the Abody-portion, and
an inilating valve and stem therefor extending alongside 'of the'- pneumatic cushion in view through position not to' obstruct the said body-portion, substantially as set-forth..`
5. In an inhaling device, the combination With-` a substantially. bell-shaped body-por. tion, formed oftransparent inateriahof a gas inlet disposed'upon the body-portion, and
a 'positive pressure valve, comprising an `ad-' the tension of the sion of the spring at the different points indicated by the gage; all visibly Land accessibly mounted upon the body-portion, substantially as set forth. l
6. Thecombination with an inhaling device having' an inhaler member, of a valvepart governing the eihalatidn therefrom, a gage and adjusting means controllable therefrom for regulating thevalveyand accurately varying the eXhaling-pressure from said device; all visibly and aocessibly mounted upon the inhalcr-member, substantially as set forth.
7. Inapparatus o'f the class described, the combination with a substantially bell-shaped member of transparent celluloid having unobstructed sides, of inlet and outlet valves positioned wholly upon the top of said body portion and a pneumatic cushion disposed upon the lower edges of said body portion, whereby its sides are entirely free and unobstructed, substantially' as set forth.

In a facial inhaler, the combination witli'ran open-bottom bell-shaped body-portion, tfifmeans for sealing its edges in engageiient with the face of the patient, a gasinlet, a an adjustable-pressure exit-valve, impr-Ising 'a valve-part, a coiled spring f longer than the diamoter'of said valv part, pres-l means for adjustably tensioning the sure of said spring upon the'valve'fpartsub1V stautially throughout the length `of the spring, anda gage for indicating such adjustment; all visibly and accessi ly mounted upon the body-portion, substantially as' set forth.
9. In apparatus 'of the class described. the
character, of ex alinx eombination with a substantially frust0- conical inhalin member of transparent positioned thereon; t e former comprismg. a valve member, a relatively long light pressure spring, a gage, and means for adjusting the spring 1n accordance with the indications of the gage; all aceessibly mounted and inhaling valves upon the inhaling member, substantially as set forth.
